Nostale isn't a bad idea for an MMO, it's just a bad presentation of those ideas. It's built up of all the correct things, simple plot, simple character creator, varied in game classes and builds, varied skills, instanced dungeons, but they've failed to polish any specific element into a genre defining masterpiece.
That and the 'time-space' dungeons are all exactly the same.
Thanks to the Patreon supporters and Twitch subs who keep the channel going!
Lost it a "Top the Blacksmith. That's his name, not a command."

The utter disrespect Mr. Hayes displays towards the cultural importance of cabbage mining and the associated war dance that all cabbage miners perform while working is truly insulting.
The very idea of cabbage miners is hilarious.
best part is the dance they do is called the Cabbage Patch.
Yes indeed.
Cabbage is indeed the most important cultural activity. So says I, the Cabbage Preacher.
Dance for the cabbages! It pleases them!
I dunno what sounds scarier - the grifters at Gameforge resetting servers every month to wipe real-money purchases, or the players who keep re-buying those purchases.
It's like EA's wet dream that it'd want to implement instead of pointlessly annualized game releases.
If EA didn't release the same game annually, then how else would they be able to introduce new game-breaking bugs?
I mean... Project Ascension gets away with it too, but at least you can rebuy most of those perks with gold pretty easily.
what the *actual fuck*
Resetting servers ? What the hell are you even talking about, nothing ever gets reset lol, there's just been server fusions and it didn't delete anything
@@GruppeSechs With the exception that you know it'll get reset, since it's seasonal. But yeah seasonal with microtransactions is ... eugh
I played this game for hundreds of hours when I was 12 to 14 years old. I was badly addicted to it, also spending quite a bit of my parents money for p2w items. This is quite dangerous for children who don't understand what a decent game should be like. Even now watching your content, I feel like I want to play this game again and at the same time I don't because of the bad game design. So odd.

This game also had a Polish translation (extremely rare for MMOs and even some games nowadays) and I remember the translation there was also awful. In one of the first quests there is an item that is said to have strange letters (as in, characters, alphabet, you get the point), the Polish translation called them "strange letters (mail)".
Still waiting for Josh to say one day: "This is the worst MMO ever. And I'm not talking about the series"
I think there have been a few where he's hit that point, but I think he's still trying to be constructive and objective about his reviews.
@@Spark_Chaser not to mention that the true worst can change as time goes on. Some people do that excessively in videos and it kinda becomes a dull descriptor, but Hayes doesn’t seem to do that as much, and his videos are so thorough and articulate that you truly understand WHY he’s so much more upset at this game than others he’s called the worst. Plus it helps he rarely comes from a place of anger in these critiques.
He's done it twice I think. Bloodlines Prima then Fiesta Online
Seeing the video-title, i wanted to yell Noooooo,
but at the same time, i dont play this game anymore cause it Soft-Locked me
so hard i cant play anymore.
Yeah he said during his Fiesta video that this is his new "0" score. That Fiesta is hands down the worst MMO he's ever played.
But then this demon waifu mobile "game" that was basically just porn with a predatory cash shop added to it.... that broke his soul. He had to get roaring drunk and frequently cuddle his pets while censoring half the "waifus" before TH-cam demonetized the video.
I'd say the demon waifu one was worse, but it's actually debatable whether that one even qualified to be a game in the first place.
The idea of getting divorced in a chibi anime game is hilarious
IMMERSION ↗️
I'm not sure is it more hilarious that there's an option or that you have to re-marry every month. Or do they actually migrate marriage status between servers in hope someone actually pay for the divorce? That wouldn't be as greedy as possible.
You have no idea how SRS BZNZ having a gf/wife was in maplestory back in the day. The global chat drama was never ending.
MMO marriages are srs bsns
I'm surprised they don't make you hire a divorce lawyer as well.

In Korean repeating K sounds like laughter, so it's shorthand for laughing. 100% could have been localized to lol. However given the poor localization and bad UI, I doubt anyone is even aware or would care to know about it.
Yea, similar to the thai 555.
Yup. ㅋㅋㅋ basically means LOL. And it sounds like KKK.
It's also common on Brazil mostly because korean games like Ragnarok were extremly popular here on the 90's so the laught became part of our internet culture.
But why is the icon that pops up is a guy fishing? Just show a dude laughing
@@EJ_Red Because the emote is for "Gotcha"; the use is for when someone is baiting you into something then laughing at you when you take it.
Oh, goodness, I guess an explanation for the "gotcha" emoticon is in order.
Different languages use different onomatopoeia for laughter, like lol for English or ja for Spanish. The game was likely translated from Korean since it was developed by the Korean developer Entwell Co., Ltd and was originally released in Korea, so that means that they used the Korean onomotopoea for laughter, k. It's why it's important to properly localize your games, so that you can avoid misunderstandings.
It looked like a piece of chicken as the bait on the hook. Not a good look.
There's a similar one in Japanese, I think. I've seen "Ke Ke Ke" used as a devious chuckle sound sometimes, so I picked up what they meant to do based on that, but WOW that's an awkward localization issue.
here on Brasil plenty of people also use the k laughter too, if fact is the most common way of laughing
@@defaltthelonerpois é kk
And the fishing is a reference to trolling. The term trolling, meaning trying to pull a reaction, is a reference to a fishing technique, not a monster under a bridge. So the emote is "I trolled you, hahaha", hence the name "Gotcha."
I've been waiting for this video for so long.
I wasted thousands of hours on this game and I still hate/love it

"You mine the cabbage by dancing at it" Only in an MMO.
Even funnier is the fact that the dance is called The Cabbage Patch.
What's sad is that a lot of the broken stuff either used to work or made sense.
Like the white window is supposed to show a HTML page that does display on other versions of the game where the link is not broken. Or the UI looks weird because the game was built to display on CRT screens that were still common when it released, but it doesn't upscale with the resolution so now everything is tiny.
@Beaverish Buck Teeth all he did was say that the stuff used to work mate
@Beaverish Buck Teeth Stop being angry and touch some grass mate.
Your are the one coping
It's not even necessarily designed for CRT screens. The UI would probably look fine on a 1080p LCD screen. He plays in 4k, so a lot of games have a tiny UI because they probably used absolute pixel measurements, so the windows look 4 times smaller on a 4k screen.
@Beaverish Buck Teeth stop coping. Your parents don't love you :(

Ah, Nostale. My very first introduction to MMO's, years, *years* ago, back when the white boxes still showed tutorials, and when the northern entrance to the starting city was *crowded* with players setting up shops.
This all makes me feel very... nostalgic. 😏
Heh. I started 2007 with no act 4, only SP1-4 available, no Mounts/Basar, old maps for the first part of Act 1 until fernon temple.... man those days...
... God i had so much fun with this game back in the day (like 2008 I think). I found it to be really enjoyable tbh

I'll just remind you it's "act 1" of 7 or even more. I can't remember correctly, I haven't played this game for years.
tbf i remember that some point you eventually find out that the workers are the good guys and you start helping them. It was very confusing as a child and with the borken translation.
Huh, didn’t know the Pinkertons were a faction in this game.
4:27 I tried to give this game the benefit of the doubt. I really did, I held out hope through everything. But when I heard that you can't capture Big Chicken, I broke down in tears. It was 40 years ago when I was but a lad of 58 years old, and I asked my mother "mommy, will I be able to catch Big Chicken when I grow up?" and she told me, "son, if you believe in your heart and in yourself, and if an Anime MMO developer doesn't screw you over, you can do whatever you want." Big Chicken was my life. It was what got me up every morning. And now, I've never felt more disgrace at the state of the world. In the modern day, I thought this sort of thing would be over. Confined to the dustbin of history. This behavior has absolutely no place in an online game, and it's caused untellable grief and pain to myself and I'm sure to many others. I hope Entwell realizes what they've done.
Heartbreaking. Simply unforgivable actions towards you.

In fact, it's much better for it to be upside down as A: water can get into the pins and rust either the spring or pins themselves and B: the lock now doesn't have to rely on spring tension for a reset, as gravity can do the work for it.

Just a minor point, the word Cobalt actually comes from the word "Kobold". When Cobalt was first discovered, it was given a name similar to "Goblin" or "Faerie", which we would know as "Kobold". Cobalt turns it's signature Cobalt Blue when oxidised. This likely ties into notions from Paracelsus' writings on elemental creatures.

However, I'm removing it if there's a problem. No offense was intended.
It's quite an eye opening experience to finally see just how different NosTale is for new players who have never played this game and don't understand the mechanics of it.
I've never even thought about just how important a tutorial can be since i already knew all i needed, but seeing Josh not even knowing he has skills for so long or even knowing to eat snacks during combat felt so surreal to me.
It's really telling just how much the game doesn't tell you, the sorts of things that all players use on a daily basis like the afforementioned snacks or even Amulets and Wings of Return - the cheap consumable items for teleporting around the world.
Similarly i was honestly surprised at some of the highlighted items in the Mall like seeds of power or Cylloan Spring Water, things you woul never waste your money on, but ones that clearly seemed like bad offenders to the ones not in the know.
I have never even thought that someone could see a difficulty spike anywhere before at least around level 36 when you get your first SP card and the enemies get much stronger to compensate for that, or before completing Act 1 at level 55 when the game basicaly stops being a railroad, since you can't do just the main quest or even do the main quest at all.
Well, overall i've quite enjoyed watching this, to me, allien view of NosTale though, I am a little sad it's never gotten to even the slightly more interesting parts of the game, even though i understand why, considering the time investment necessary to get that far, especially after seeing what the new player experience seems to be.
Thanks for the video Josh.
Ps: Fingers crossed for NosTale 2? Though i know it won't happen.
The game is so boring in act 1, everything take lot of time... and the act 3 with secret lab and zombies is so hard when you are too low in levels.... personally, I finished the lab with my cheaty sp4a - the guy with boomerang.
The issue with a lot of games is they don't put the interesting parts up front.
Level 55? My cousin is 67 and still in act 1
These 50-55lv oneshoting shooting things made me stop playing forever.
Yeah, a strong onboarding process is absolutely vital to the health and success of a game.

It's funny that you ask if you're the bad guy to the Kobolds, because you are (For the moment). Later in the story, you learn of the poor working conditions and suppression the kobolds went through and help them instead with some guards who also decide to change sides. This leads to the kobolds asking for help from the demons to branch out into a bigger story.
*Josh:* "Games should have a hidden tutorial"
*Devs:* "Aha, got it! Hey Bob, can we make all the tutorial window contents hidden? Just make them, y'know, not show up when the window comes up. Yeah, perfect! 'Hidden tutorial': check!"
I actually remember the game. Back in the day when no one had the final SP card yet and there wasn't much p2w (I was pretty high level and not much weaker than the leader on the server, I never had a seed problem and I think they gave you 99 of the best potions at some point in the game which helped me up to level 55 or so) which might also be because the game actually had a price tag back in the day (I think around 10€). Was really fun leveling with your guild (or I think it was called family) and really annoying job leveling to get new skills and SP cards (killing the peas over and over again, though I think there was an option for auto killing, so you just let it run for a while). And the Samurai was just cool back in the day. Made for some fun arena fights (I think, you should have at least tried out the new combat style, because that is when the skills actually start to make sense especially when the element system comes into play as well). I also remember how you had to queue at a certain time to get into a daily event where the max player number was 100. Was always an important part to get in before 100 others got in. But I also have to say that the story got a bit confusing at a time since you always had to level up and that took a bit too long after lvl 50, therefore you always forgot what was actually happening. The dungeons were better in the later levels though (or maybe I just remember some specific ones).
The difficulty spike might have also not be a huge problem for me back then, because I was playing with other people. Because contrary to how it appears, you don't need to do the rifts alone. You can form an actual party and do it together. And there isn't even a rule that the other party members are not allowed to have a certain level or their stats get set back. You can literally just ask a person with a high level to help you through a time space without any issue (and at least as far as I remember the community was nice enough to always do that, but I was playing on a German server, so maybe that is a difference). The only ones that you have to do alone are the ones for the SP cards (which are the best things in the game tbh) but as I mentioned above, I had 99 of the best healing potions so they weren't a problem either.
Heya if you don't mind me asking, i remember the 3rd SP card having a quest where you had to pay like 2 million (on the regular game currency that enemies dropped) or something, it was really like that or I'm remembering badly? Its been years
I want to know also if the next ones also had some sort of money requirements bc i stopped playing when i was trying to do that quest so i have no clue what's after that
@@AldenEmroch
Yes, you are right. It was quite a bit you had to pay of the ingame currency. It wasn't a huge issue the first time. However, this was one of the moments where the p2w aspect started to creep in. Because when you wanted to upgrade that SP card, you could basically only go to the third upgrade as everything else was way too dangerous as you would need to farm a lot of money again just so you could acquire the card again. And the third one was pretty important for the warrior class at least as it was the light attribute one which had huge bonuses in the late game areas.
Its always the same the game starts out decent but the greedy publisher ruins it.
It always been free to play, the 10€ retail edition just had bonuses

@@alexreilly6121 shining force is not an mmo and not a bad game so theres no way your childhood is gonna be ruined
The coolest part of this game was changing your class at will by equipping different special cards and by levelling them up and upgrading them you could gain point to spend in that card to boost attack, defense, stamina and elemental power and it was up to you to decide how to use those points, at the time it was really unique, I don't think that other mmo had this mechanic. The problem is that the game developers decided to lock this thing after a ridiculously high level, so a lot of players dropped the game before getting there. The pacing in general is slow as hell if you don't know what you're doing.
Ff already had it
yeah its not "super high" but yes, through the pacing its quite a big milestone to get the first sp
I remember the first time I was playing the game was back in 2007-2008 and it took me like MONTHS to get to sp1 and sp2 (I was 10 years old)
I played quite a long time and if I return now, its literally like 2-3days until I get sp1, since I remember everything
Hi, first of all thank you for taking a look at nostale and how shit it became but let me tell you it wasn't always like that .. I'm playing nostale vor about 11-12 years now and i spent thousands of hours in it, back when i was 9 years old playing on of of our old computers with my mother near me with a second one. we played on official nostale before act 4 was a thing and it was such a great time earlier to get into land of death with the family and such, we were a german speaking family called Camaraderia and most of our family members were 25 years or older with me being the (most likely) one of the youngest nostale players ever and leveling with them at the age of 10... after some years i took a long break and started playing again in 2017 while getting my first chars to level 90+ ... since more and more server merged and nostale gets older over the time, sadly most of the people left which is kinda sad to see because nostale really isnt a bad game (people who play 10 years already will agree how much fun it is) ..
but one thing is the only reason the game lost its playercount and this thing is Ga*forge.. i mean gameforge
with all those server merges over the years and endless ingame items which only made it harder to get after act 6 was released, the game almost lost all my respect. you simply couldnt concentrate on creating a character and getting the best of the server because you already knew from the beginning that once you start your journey, 6 months later the servers will get merged and everyone loses interest in this server you play on.
The thing that changed my nostale experience forever was the release of the spanish private server called Nostale Vendetta. a private server that felt like nostale 2.0 because everything was so perfectly thought out and there was no need to grind weeks of weeks to get one level up. all items were easier to get even if that kind of item was a premium shop item. I had so much time on nostale vendetta like the first time i ever played nostale more than 10 years ago, met new friends like Kenzo, the family of Kristallauge called Kristallgrotte (one of the more famous nostale streamers) and many more... sadly that all changed when gameforge took down the server and bash left the nostale community.
there are (or lets say there were) several other private servers. I played on almost everyone of them and was widely known by people of the private community... me and my family Serenyum were so hyped for every new private server that our whole family agreed to move from one to another and always hit rank 1-3 , no matter if it was Vendetta, Nosbyte, Luckynos, Noswings, Nosvoid and all the other ones. i thank everyone for that experience which no other game gives to me :)
at the end all I can say is, nostale isnt the worst mmo ever in my opinion and if you give it a chance, it might be one of the best ever for some, but that is just the case if you were to start years back in the days.. but right now, gameforge ruined it all
Remember when the monsters used to have face icons in UI? peperidge farm remembers
Vendetta was essentially the first time it didn't feel dreadful to get to +80... I miss it
In a few days they're gonna incorporate ACT 9 and all of it feels so odd to me. People nowadays have multiple accounts and it feels more pointless than ever to save gold. everyone wants in when a new server opens because we just know if you don't get a slice in the first bit, you'll likely go hungry, because inflation hits sooner than later thanks to players who put real money into the game or that farm gold with countless alt accs
I really love the game, definitely nostalgia factor, but I can't exactly recommend it, specially nowadays. I'm tired of the countless pets too, I love pets!! but I also feel like the mini-pet implementation and the many boxes that give you the chance of a special op pet but you're not even guaranteed to get it... I hate gambling. I wouldn't do that !
I started at 9 years old too also! No one believed my age, all my friends there were 15 or older
I didn't even realize it was supposed to say "click" tbh
20:17 They knew if a joshstrife is playing, they'll end up in the "Worst MMO ever?" series
Pretty sure that's GOT TO BE from someone who follows Josh and realized that this was gonna be in one of his videos.
That got me laughing hard!!! Simple/concise/direct lol
Oh man, excluding the pay to win aspects, I love Nostale :-) It definitely left a childish NostAlgia in me after when I used to play it around the age of 11. It has some really good systems around social mass cooperations that become necessary to level up in the later stage of the game and the game has an original design and look. It's one of the game I wished you would do 'Worst MMO' for. It gets better and much diverse later on in the game. The first many hours for a new player feel awful though. Thanks Josh.
NosTalgia huh... okey.
Haha I remember putting on the auto clicker bot and go for a movie or 2 while lvling my job exp on a new class. Good times.
It looks like a fun game it's just very outdated understandably there's a lot of people who played it long ago and will always love it because of nostalgia hell it's the main reason I still enjoy wow despite everything bad about it to this day
Getting better later is why all games like this suck.
So it's basically a bad copy of Ragnarok Online. Can't wait for Josh to bash my first MMO. :D
I love how you had trouble with the early game mobs because you didn't upgrade your skills because the tutorial window doesn't work on steam and you had no idea how to lol
There's this weird little MMO I played when I was little called Flyff and I'd love to see a video on that.
Every nostale player hates the early game... normally the white windows tell you very useful stuff, that you missed. It would have been a totally different experience if u played through with an expert player but you showed nicely how frustrating the game for a new player is. The game really shines with the mid to endgame content and is very populated in all areas at least on the international servers. Good video
"You mine the cabbage by dancing it. What a time to be alive."
Indeed.
That's NASTY the way the game just insults you and calls you a loser when you fail their clearly rigged dungeons so that you play the regular difficulty, die more, and thus spend more money to keep trying
Though if being called a loser causes a player to quit, it's actually quite ethical
Eh. It's quite apparent that the translations are simple and literal. I doubt that it was intended as the miniscule insult some take it as.

well next time im dancing in front of a door and someone asks me what im doing there ill answer "im opening the door"
I played A LOT of this as a kid, I now know how flawed it is and was but I really had a lot of fun with it. There really was a sense of community and sticking together in this game, sometimes the default town music still plays in my head. By todays standards this game is absolute trash and the anime stuff doesn't help but running endgame raids and doing the land of the dead was such a blast; looking at players with +15 Specialists or whatever and wanting to look just as cool as them, I still remember the day I got my crusader to +9 or 10, whichever it was. A lot of good memories before they fully sold out and started going hard on p2w with those scooter and flying carpet mounts being the beginning of the end.
I played this game so much when I was younger, early game is actually not too bad even though repetitive. It gets more interesting when SP and Raids are unlocked but above level 50 it becomes extremely grindy and pay2win and you have to keep getting another level to even continue playing the quests. There is a place for power leveling but you need to group up with stronger players to even benefit from that. The worst part is upgrading of your gear which requires MTX for a reasonable chance at success and to remove the massive risk of losing your item. PVP also feels very unfair with ridiculous range and some players becoming extremely tanky, I always hated the smurf level 35 characters with low level gear upgraded to the maximum to farm other low level players in PVP.
Could be interesting to see a "Best MMO Ever?" series, analyzing games to see what makes them good.

Just discovered your channel yesterday through your Wizard 101, and even though I'm not an MMO player, I absolutely love this series!
Check out his Otherland series if you haven't. It's fantastic
That game looks like Yugioh to the power of ToonTown and has a teacher who sounds like the late Alan Young's Scrooge McDuck. Also check out his vid on Secondhand Lands & Warhammer 40K Eternal Crusade. The former cause of the line "Can you say alloy?" Which to me indicates it was gonna be a child friendly game like Toontown before going in a more gritty direction. And the latter cause it gives you an idea for why it shut down. Also his Seven Deadly Sins of MMO Design series makes for a good binge.
I played this game in the past (a lot) It was my first mmo ever. It is pay 2 win. It is repetitive and broken. But I really like the way they approached the class system. You have three classes in this game (mage, swordsman, archer) and every class is able to equip different specialist cards. That means that a mage e.g. can wear a fire specialist card which turns you into a powerful fire mage. There are also other specialists like ice mage, light mage (healing) and dark mage which uses e.g. guns instead of a staff.
Overall I had much fun with the game and afterwards it really is a love/ hate relationship because I think that the game itself is quite nice, but the way they arranged everything, the amount of pay2win makes it less pleasing and there are clearly better ways to waste your precious time and money.
Thank you for the nice review of my childhood :)
Oh you missed. Its not instead of staff. Its the secondary weapon. All the classes had cards that used their core classes' secondary as a main weapon. That was really cool when I found out about it.
I had a character at lvl 53. All my childhood playing that game. So much nostalgia, so many memories...
I tried to get into the account last year (after, like, 9 years of not playing)... all erased. I couldn't get it back, neither any info in it. "But it was such an amazing game. I can't just give up yet!"
So I did a new account, this time on Steam so I wouldn't lose my data again. Played some days, got it to lvl 28 or something like it. Stopped playing (cuz' it wasn't the same, of course), and came back after some months. My account was erased. Again.
This game can go f*ck itself. Amazing childhood game, I don't recomend it. There is a lot of better options out there.
they banned my account because supposedly i bought something and didnt pay (how the hell would you even do that in the ingame shop?) then said they cant do anything about it because it has been too long XD

There's no different sounds for "B" and "V" in Japanese, so "kovold" is most probably just a mistranslation.
Mostly, although you can also pronounce "V" with an accented 'u' (ヴ).
V and B are also next to each other on a qwerty keyboard so it could just be a typo

I was one of the ppl asking for Nostale.
Having played it for a bit more than 2 years with my classmate, but in the end gave up at lvl96 (when the cap was still 99 xd). Me, my trash village internet in Germany and my first own pc with 14 really had some clunky fun in this one, but man ... before lvl 40-45 you had your fun with friends and after that it got so grindy and expected you to spend money to upgrade your gear (or destroy it if you dont have the cash shop stuff if it fails) ... and the whole design choices went down the drain
Dumb teen me sadly got hooked and grinded almost to the end of the lvl cap, thankfully i didnt spend more than 50€ overall on the game, since back in the days you could trade game money against cash shop items in the market place.
Even then i wondered why the fuck anyone would do that ... why spend your own money to sell game items to kids for game money ... that doesnt get you anything
yoo 96 is high. In like 2012 the highest level we had on our Server (german server 2) was like 90.
It DOES get you something: MOney. LOTS of money. Kids have poor impulse control. Typically poor understanding of the concept of the Value of Money and it being a Limited Resource. Not to mention kids begging their parents to give them money to buy stuff, and the parents relenting. etc.
Also takes full advantage of Adults with Poor Impulse Control and other stuff too.
Seeing the video-title, i wanted to yell Noooooo,

This was the game I was addicted to. Like, legitimately, peeing and drooling myself because I didn't want to stop playing. Getting the "You've been playing for 20 hours. Please take a rest." I even said I was feeling really sick so I could get days off school to play this game.
I'm glad I realised it being a problem but the only way I could stop myself from playing was to get all my accounts banned for hacking (using cheats to beat minigames in people's houses).

I NEWEWR THOUGHT THERE WAS SOME CHEATS ON NOSTALE Xd
I mean, I know the Gotcha emote is probably supposed to be a guy laughing after baiting someone to fall for something because I used to play a game with a Filipino guy who explained it to the rest of the guild when we got really confused by him randomly acknowledging that group. It was a great moment. Spent some time after researching and sharing other ways other cultures and communities portray laughter through text. Someone in localization should probably realized that plenty of Western players would've never had that lesson though.
This game is just special i played it in 2008-2012 and since then i come back on this game every 2-3 years… it has it’s own unique player community, if you never played this game you can’t tell.

Good job Josh :3
Capturing pets also got fully remade with new specialist card but also the basic capturing skill got cooldown changed to 15 or 20 seconds so those early quests are way less annoying.
the tutorial windows that didn't show up for you are super outdated anyway. The game has a lot to offer, like when you get your 1st "specialist card" gameplay changes and becomes more fast paced and you start to see big damage numbers... but the beginning of the game is just super slow and off-putting resulting in low player retention rate.
I’m guessing they are broken web pages from trying to access a nonexistent site?

The one I Wanted since I discovered this channel. I loved this game, and in some ways I love it even today, but gosh is there so many flaw and predatory monetization in this game
Many such cases.
I didnt saw any MMO post 2010 that have no monetization.
After getting your SP it became finally fun. Then you would hit the grind wall where killing 1 mob was giving you 0.02% of XP and since the level of SP class is separated from your "basic" level and that SP are limited in time for use, then you would have to wait A LOT to max it up. Or pay for SP recharge.

A lot of these games really suffer from age. This game for example is already 16 years old.
The complaints are of course all valid. They just didn't care to update the old systems.
He probably missed a bit much since until level 20 you play a tutorial class, but I don't think it matters much.

My first girlfriend got me into this game for a spell. I remember thinking it was alright but it was way too...obviously gamey in how it presents itself. Being a free low spec MMO from 2008 times, I didn't expect too much. Then we switched to a fanserver of Ragnarok Online and that blew it out of the water.
It also reminds me of Ragnarok Online!
Looks really like Ragnarok, but Ragnarok looks still smoother from gameplay, only the graphics are better in Nostale but I still prefer Ragnarok praphics.
I'm one of the top PVE players on international-1 server and, yes, the game is P2W or "HARD MULTICLIENT PLAY". Leveling system is so bad until lv.55. Reaching the maximum level (99+80) requires around 800 hours of hard exping. The game is total RNG. To get a good PVE/PVP equip you need to find it rarity 7 or 8 with specific stats that you can't change. To farm money, you need to buy ND or create a large set of alters to play raids with more than 1 character. Everything is a pain in the ass but we love this game unconditionally. The only good thing on this game is having a family to play together while talking on discord. That's the only good thing this game have today.
Then leave? I don't understand. If the game got so bad, why not just leave and find a game that treats you and your time with respect?

agree, i love it when games allow you to adventure to zones you are def not meant to be in. my favorite example of this is in wow when i did explore hyjal achievement in wow as lvl 20 alliance druid. Everything in hyjal one shot me and aggroes stupid far and on top of that i was being sent to ashenvale to grave near astranaar as alliance. so i def got the message: do not enter here at all. and i didn't care and i explored entire hyjal while each ghost run to body took 25 minutes. ashenvale->felwood->winterspring where you are forced to jump at mountains since the bridge is collapsed to get into mount hyjal range where you get ghost griffin. 10/10 would do it again. and i kinda did. in northrend i had to do a quest. this quest required me to speak to npc that was too high for my darkmoon cannon to shoot to, so i tried walking at mountains, this worked i got to platform where the quest was, but i died due fall damage. so my route to body was following: sholazar basin->borean tundra->dragonblight->crystalsong->ice crown->sholazar basin. i love it when quest can be technically done by me lvl 20, but then blizzard just forgets to scale enemies. shadowlands is full of enemies that had lvl ??? right next to lvl 20 enemies.

Why would it be when the game has 12 yo mechanics in the early game, and if you have low knowledge on how to grind fast, the mid to late game feels incredibly long.
And I haven’t even mentioned the champion level exp system, which is not a minor thing, it’s acutally the most important thing in the game. If you want to go more in depth with this, i can explain to you why this game sucks way more than you said, as a late game player

While I agree the game does get better later (if you have friends ), the start is definitely the most grindy and slow experience i had as a kid and the only reason I kept playing is cause my friends played with me too and they basically helped me with all the dungeons since I didn't understood how the skill systems worked completely.
You asked why the high level people grind on low level places and is so they can level up the exp of their SP cards (the transformations) bc no matter how high level you are the peas give you 0,2 of exp or something like that on the card so when you have it at max lv you get all the skills instead of doing it slowly like usual, i remember i was starting to dislike this aspect when someone i played with wasted TWO DAYS, two whole days grinding there non stop lol
I played on the official Spanish version so I'm not sure if it works different or if it's already just 1 server but I'm too afraid to check, as far as I remember while there was p2w it wasn't that bad,you could survive by your own it was good
I stopped playing when i got to the 3rd sp , to get it (at least at the time) you had to pay 2 MILLION in the currency of the game, which doesn't sound that bad but monsters only drop up to 1500 coins( if you're lucky , it's regularly 400-600 and there's less monsters on that area)on that part of the game, it was bullshit lol and my friends moved to elsword at that time so i had no reason to play
The raids and stuff with a lot of people are definitely the think that made it more fun for me, but since there's less people is not worth it anymore
I played on polish server. I remember that every 2 hours there was an event stage that would be 5 waves of mobs and a ton if loot every wave. I remember being able to get first level of wings in the first real card (not pyjama, lol) relatively easily and it costed 1m gold.

I wonder if you'll ever touch on Realm of the Mad God. It's a fascinating MMO that mixes so many different genres together, it used to be a tiny flash game but turned into a Unity release after being juggled between multiple different companies over the years. It still has quite a loyal following (me included), and due to its unique combination of genres I think you would be interested by it. I'm sure you'd have lots to say as well since in my opinion it's extremely hard to get into as a new player and nothing has really happened in recent time to try to fix this, so if you were able to give it some more attention and call out these issues I wonder if it would allow for any change to actually happen.
