I was a fan when the 1st album came out & not too long later I met him & we became good friends & would hang out together whenever he was in town. He always invited me to his home. We were friends til the day he died. He was of the most original unique musicians & writers of all time like no other a true giant. Sorely.I feel blessed to have been pals w/him & all the fun we had.(I met sorely missed)
That's amazing that you knew Beefheart personally. Did you pick his brain at all? I'm extremely curious which parts of the legend of the making of Trout Mask Replica are true and which are embellishments.
Holy smokes! Shades of Chess on acid! Absolutely brilliant! Beefheart really put the Magic Band into high gear! I've yet to hear a white band who REALLY, REALLY duplicated the entirety of Howlin' Wolf or Chicago Blues. This makes Paul Butterfield's work moot IMHO.
Wow what a band. You've got Charlie Watts and Drumbo on drums.Rocket Morton and Bill Wyman on bass.Zoot Horn Rollo and Eric Clapton on guitar.Howlin and Captain on vocals.I think Steve Winwood might be in there somewhere.Did they ever tour?Just kiddin.
I've got a bootleg of a performance by Capt. Beefheart from the Avalon Ballroom in '67. Heavy blues and the influece of Howlin' Wolf is on full display, even in the harp playing.
Roy Craig, I agree with your critique, this mix is seriously flawed. I know next to nothing about mixing audio, this was mixed hurriedly and poorly as an April 1st joke. Beefheart and Howlin Wolf together on stage, a dream concert of mine. I had some good ideas, but they were lost in the crappy mix. For more awful mixes, check out Ray Conniff - The Lost Dub Sessions.
I can't imagine why anyone would want Captain Beefheart and Howlin Wolf on the same stage but, if it had ever happened - which it never did - it would have sounded better than this hamfisted mess.
@robingianinazzi7178 Yes indeed.Sounds great Plus Early capt bee fart.&The Magic Band Covers lots of Chester A.Burnett..guess sm.dont like if not to their like.in.
just wanted to say that u have a neat idea but it does not work the similarity of howlin wolfe and beefheart is the sound of their voices this is disjointed in a bizarre way dons work always makes sense to me even as a musician. this is two songs edited together not the 2 of them collaborating
Lies... That's howlin wolf with Eric Clapton from an album called Muddy n the Wolf.. And is layed over the maguc band... Why do people do this I know the howlin wolf part explicitly and it is the same song from that album . I've listened to it for years...and the maguc band...this never happened...
This must of been a dream come true for The Captain. As Howling Wolf was his Idol. Sometimes it is hard to tell their vocals apart.

Yeah, this is a mix someone has put together of the London Howling Wolfe sessions and overdubbed a Beefheart track. Sho' enuff and yes it is.
bloody clever
If you hear this music's brilliance then you understand me as a person.
Aww, shoot. Was hoping it would be for real. Still, it's interesting.
Oh man don´t mess with the Wolfman and the Captain this way!!

Howlin Wolf was one of the biggest influences for the Captain

Sorry guys this is photoshopped and it is two seperate perfoemances overlayed on each other. I can hear Hubert Sumlin not Zoot horn Rollo

may it be a hoax, but it is still brilliant.

Sounds fake. This is not a sound of Magic Band from that era. Besides, I dont think Don and Wolf ever met on the stage.
Amazing music. Terrible recording. Many technical difficulties. Still it is history!
Christ, what can ya say ? 😹🙊🔭
Sloppy editing, Clearly a fake.
This has been created badly from various bits of Beefheart tracks and Howlin Wolf and is totally fake.
bs
Totally fake!

Disgusting how dare you
Bullshit!
