Chris cagle look at what I've done to her, byse might make an experience. I listened to this alot with my daughter's biological father. He wanted me to have an abortion and was abusive, manipulative and wanted nothing to do with us. She's 3 now and he still wants nothing to do with her. He put me through hell and back more than I care to admit but I survived and now I'm in a better place with my daughter. It's taken me awhile to get enough strength to be the survivor I am today, but Chris cagle put into words how I was feeling when I couldn't admit it.

When my heart was broken in college, my friends kept wanting to take me out to get me dunk. I refused. I've been drunk once in my life and it wasn't fun. Also my biological grandfather and my uncle were alcoholics. I didn't want to be like them. So I told my friends no. And I stuck to my guns. They asked me why. I said "because no matter how much I drink tonight I'll wake up tomorrow morning and still have a broken heart. It won't solve anything."

Addiction is so damaging to the person and the ones who love them. There’s shame involved so of course he doesn’t want her to know. He feels ashamed. It is horrible when we can’t help or change them. I know. Some people have a predisposition to addiction. Others, like myself, do not. Imagine that we can have a predisposition to like that feeling too much. Scary. God bless everyone. 🙏

Billy if you could please react to Cover your eyes by Jamey Johnson . This song is so special to me . I listend to it daily for a month going to and from the hospital before my Dad passed . He was a truck driver and always on the phone late at night with me to keep him company . I hear him talking to me in this song . Please if you get time .
It's so hard to do, but you can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped or stays numb enough that they don't even see the issues looking at them in the mirror. It'll break your heart, but you've gotta let people hit their rock bottom before the can be helped. If they aren't ready but they're doing it for YOU or for the FAMILY, it will not last. They have to hit rock bottom and then do it for themselves. It's the only way I've ever seen it work. Harder than that, at some point when their toxic behavior starts messing up things in your life... you have to distance yourself. Especially if you have kids. You have to make it clear that when they're ready to start the next chapter of their life, you're there... and, if they have an emergency you'll be there for them. But that you can't have them be an every day part of yourself because it's not good for your family. I had to distance myself from a family memory many years ago (not because of drinking, just a host of other things) and it was hard. But now, we are in a good place.So as rough as it was and dealing with certain family members who didn't even know what was going on, but they took it upon themselves to look down on me and say that I was disrespectful was hard. But my feelings were that I was an adult when it happened and there comes a time that it's ok to cut out toxic people out of your life... even if it's family.
As someone who was engaged to a severe alcoholic. I tried to get him help. He didn’t want the help. Instead he beat me and tried to kill me. I tried leaving him because of the alcoholism and the verbal abuse and when I tried to leave he got physically abusive. Alcoholism affects everyone!
The unfortunate thing about it is they really do have to hit bottom and decide for themselves that they are done before they can move on, get help, do what needs to be done to work it through. Even then, it's one hell of a battle to work through.

Got a couple of recs for you, Billy. Fishin' in the Dark by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Yes, Garth Brooks did a great cover, but the Band was the OG. Also Ol' Red by George Jones. Kenny Rodgers and Blake Shelton both did covers, but George Jones, the OG, did it best.

It’s not about alcohol. It’s about living without the one you love. And yeah drinking but don’t tell her I got drunk because of her. I, doing good but don’t tell her sometimes I slip up and get drunk and thing about her. It’s really not about the drinking.
