I LOVE the Duchess! I was yelling at the computer “Just rip it open!” I’m on the hunt for a featherweight “born” in the same year as me - 1956! When I find her, I shall name her “ Vera” (my mom) and have her painted blue!

I tried to find one for my BD year but due to WWII none were made in 44. Git my baby brother's year, 47 instead. Named her Charlotte after a cousin.

Hi Pat , just catching up in the UK , I have been busy making mince pies for |Christmas . The Duchess looks wonderful . I recently acquired a manual Singer machine made in 1937 , she sews like a dream and was as excited as you are ...haha . She is beautiful but definitely not a featherweight !! I will have to give her a name . I love your videos it's like having a friend chatting
each day .

So glad Pat is doing some appliqué as I've been putting it off myself. I shall do blocks for mug rugs so keeping it small. Hopefully once I've made a few I can pluck up courage to get back to Edyta' of laundry Basket Quilts mystery table topper where I've completed the 4 quarters up to starting the appliqué. Thanks for the "kick" to tackle some new challenge.

Is there a little clear “stopper” on the scroll plate side to prevent chipping of paint when you fold up the arm tray? A must to prevent chipping. They maybe put one on it for you. It’s a little rubber type stopper about 1/4 inch in diameter.

You're Duchess is BEAUTIFUL!!! My Featherweight was actually at Jen's shop at the dance time as your machine. After you posted your opening, Jen sent me a picture of both our machines together (if you want to see the picture, let me know & I'll send it to you or if you want, I can post in your FB page). I don't want to do it without you're permission though. Our machines look like they could be stitching sister's as they have the same scroll work on the face plate and decals (I don't have a heart though). I'm SEW excited for both of us. Jen did an AMAZING job on my machine. I would highly recommend her to anyone considering having their machine serviced and cleaned.

that is exactly what Jen did.. watch the video ago, it has been totally refurbished. My husband in an Electrical engineer so i have never sewn on it as it needed fixed

Beautiful just beautiful! I have a Pfaff 130 with also no family connection but I have been hesitant about getting her painted because I love the gold scroll work and I didn’t want to loose that! Not sure what I was thinking of course it could be painted and have the scroll design put back on it and I just so happen to know two ladies for the job! Thanks Pat for sharing this journey with me! The Duchess is beautiful!
I just bought the same machine :) she has lived in a barn for an unknown amount of time . Paint looks great luckily so she’s at the spa getting a mechanical makeover

I have 3 Featherweights - 2 black ones, & one white one! I love to see all the beautiful colors, but I can’t make the decision to get one of mine painted!! Enjoy yours now, & have fun with it!

My Featherweight (named Fanny) was displayed for eleven years before I finally tuned her up and now she is my travel machine. Mine is a '52 Centennial machine with the striated face plate but I'd love to one day find an older scroll faced one like yours.

Gorgeous Featherweight. I follow both Marie and Jenn. They are both awesome at what they do. I recently painted a vintage machine from goodwill RED!! lol. Please sew on her. Love your featherweight and was delighted when you said it was 77 years old and was made in 1946 because that is my birth year and I turn 77 in 2 weeks! Love the color too, as it looks Razorback red for my state of Arkansas.

Don't think I will do the quilt but will try the blocks as I need to practice my applique before I start my daughter's quilt which has lots of applique. In my family we have my grandmother's treadle Singer sewing machine. It was the first machine I was allowed to sew on.

Mom had one when I was a kid. Wish I had confiscated it instead of letting her get rid of it. I hate the thought that she might have put it in the trash. I'm going to tell myself that she donated it. The “Duchess” is beautiful❤ I gifted myself a Featherweight born during my birthday year of 1961. “Queenie” is a creamy beige color but , I have been pondering to have her painted in my favorite color which is red! Now that I see yours, I may just have to treat myself again😊
It wasn’t a quilt but it was in response to your question on your video about if we had ever made a gingerbread house. I shared a photo of the houses I made with my grandchildren.

I’m excited that you will be sewing with the Dutchess soon. I’ve had a featherweight (Nancy) that sat on display for about a year but I have recently started sewing a project and now I’m in love with her even more! I highly recommend a Lori Holt “seams so easy” seam guide. It extends the bed of the machine and has lines for 1/4” seams as well as a center line for HST’s. Attaches with washi tape and is easily removed. Congrats!

Hi Pat - in looking at the directions for the drawstring bag, they don’t give a seam allowance - traditional bag making is usually 1/2” but not sure here. Do you think it’s 1/2” or 1/4”?
i'm using 1/4" it is what i always use

I love your Duchess! So pretty! One tip I learned from one of my Featherweight clubs is to get the clear sticky "buttons" as used on the bottoms of lamps, etc. Put it on the screw that holds the scrolled end plate on, and it will prevent any scratches to the bed. Also, there are patterns to make a padded sleeve to go over the bed when putting it away, to do the same thing. I am so happy for you! Merry Christmas to you!

Depending on the cost, I may have a featherweight (not sure if it’s a featherweight, but it’s a vintage Singer that my sister had in her garage for several years-hope it can be resurrected!) I’d love to bring back to life!
