Always appreciate the reviews. Your preferences often line up with mine, so I trust your descriptions more than any other reviewer. Sadly, I have small ears too. I sold some EE Hero's for the same season. Friggin shame. My dream IEM is an S8 with more bass and the MK2 seemed like a good candidate.
Ok, let's go. 1) 100% agree that the stock cable and ear tips result in an awkward experience. You are 100% correct that by replacing the cable and ear tips, you get improvement. And IMO, those modifications justify the $ 1,000-ish (buy second hand since so many people are selling theirs vs doing the modifications) price tag. This is a truly wonderful sounding iem for $1k. 2) My ears much prefer the S8 over the Blessing 2. In fact, I found the Blessing 2 so BORING, (yes, well-tuned) that I sold the Blessing 2 for the S8 and have been extremely happy with the S8. 3) My best IEMs are the Monarch MK II and the S8. The MKII is more fun, the S8 is more technical to my ears; both are enjoyable for all-day listening to my entire and varied collection. 4) Nice review Superreview and thanks. Note: I like clean and detailed listening but I also like musicality, meaning most of the time, I like the music to move me, make me want to dance or bob my head. I have vast collections of jazz and classical as well as house and rap, soundtracks and more. The Monarch MK II is really a fantastic all-rounder. I have the S8 and am interested in the mk2. Do you happen to know how thick the nozzles are on the monarch mk2? I often have more of an issue with nozzles being too thick than the housing being too large.
@@mudkip9083 I don't know the thickness of the nozzle. Nozzle size is never a problem for me vs tips. You must get the right seal on the MKII for their true experience. I found the stock tips no good, as I most often do.
@@markus301 Tips, I have found, can make a tremendous difference in sound. Everyone's inner ear structure is different, similar to fingerprints, thus perceived sound is very personal. With that being said, the tips I use for all of my IEMs are Spinfit. I use the W1 and the CP145. The W1 are better than the CP145 for the Monarch MK2 - IMO. Matched together, they present a wonderful listening experience.

I honestly think the monarch og is best. That bass is there, but I don't think it's as bad as many say it is. I have the og, and the blessing 2. There is a noticeable difference. The monarchs are clearly better. But I do love the blessings 2
My first IEM was the Moondrop Dusk and have just purchased the Monarch Mk11. Bang for buck, fit and sound I’d say purchase the Dusk it’s excellent for fit and sound quality across all music types and can go anywhere with you, also purchased the Moondrop Bluetooth set, great purchase. If I’m just sitting down and listening I wear the Monarch as it does have a slight overall better sound.
The Monarch MKII was my first IEM. Went straight for endgame, very pleased, 0 regrets! (Next, I'm eyeing the Annihilator, but will have to save up for years for that).

Been a while since I heard Variations but I remember it has similar issues with lacking body. Other technical attributes... hard to measure the difference, but Monarch is ahead. How big is that gap reallllllly depends on perspective. For me, it's significant but not life changing.

If you have free 3200$, then Elysian Anihilator will give you the best treble extension on the market. Cheaper option with great upper midrange and treble extension would be Elysian Diva, but you need to order them messaging directly the Elysian owner plus I think they will cost you around 2000$ after taxes Otherwise Monarch MKII is great choice together with Elysian Gaea
I noticed in your Squig Links you marked the Mest Mk2 as 5 stars, even though it seems to have recessed to downright flat mids in the graph. The Mark 1 you rated 4 stars but it has more pronounced mids and treble. Not sure if I'm totally wrong here, but I thought mids were more your preference, not sure how much tremble you like though. I just want to understand your reasoning a bit more for why you marked the Mest Mk2 as 5 stars. Looking to get an upgrade from the B2 Dusk (which I freaking love, thanks for the rec). So far I have as options the Sony IER M9, Monarch Mk2, Mest Mk2 (can't find a used Mk1), Variations, Helios, S8, Andromeda 2020... Ideally if I were not making any compromises I would go straight for the Elysian Diva, because I heard the mids were incredible, as well as the vocal presentation; and the graph seems closer to the Dusk than most of these other ones. But they can't be bought used and they are currently out of stock. Which of these would you get and which do you think I should get?
I compared the Monarchs 2 vs the Mest 2 and the Monarchs are better tuned, have better imaging, better detail and the vocals are significantly more natural and more pronounced. The Mest 2 have more mid bass and are more enjoyable from the first listen but after a couple minutes, i went beck to the Monarchs 2. They are just better overall imho. The Mest 2 is for those who are after a more fun listen, the Monarchs 2 are for those who appreciate vocals and more balanced sound.
Have you looked at Elysian Gaea? They are in stock Also as Variations owner I agree with you about Elysian Diva as end game material for vocals and overall sound, but this IEM is almost non existent But you can order it, you can message Lee, owner of Elysian, that you want to order the Diva and he will start making them

@@maninironmask7925 Dusk2/Variations/Monarch MK2/Diva and maybe Gaea share more similarities in tonality between each other than to the MEST MKII, I believe this set has more mid base, while previous mentioned sets are more Harmanish tuning with more sub-base, low mid-base that give clean midrange and forward vocals due to more upper midrange. From my Harman Neutral Variations I plan to upgrade only to the Monarch MKII or Diva/Gaea, other options even don't count, so actually with only 3 IEMs it's not that difficult And always there are these 2 unicorns 64audio U12t(B-stock 1600$) and Elysian Annihilator for crazy 3200$, they already don't have same harmanish tonality as Dusk/Diva/Monarch/Variations, but they are technical monsters and both have distinct and liked by many sound signatures, I would say these both sets are like last rescue for people who still aren't satisfied with IEM that they have, I would look at them if I would get a chance to own Gaea/Diva/Monarch and still wanted something more

@@SuperReview I settled on the AZLA SednaEarfit XELASTEC tips. They grip seal well and conform to your ear when they heat up. So if they don’t immediately seal wait about 60 seconds.
Is it true that when you buy the Xelastecs, you should go for one size down from your usual...?I have M so...and now it's tricky because they have MS and S so...😮😊
@@jaroslavfricek7772 when using them with the Monarch’s I do use the MS when usually I use M. But I think that’s just because the Monarch have such a wide nozzle. The M fit me on my 7hz Timeless. I would purchase the multi pack if not sure. I think I got the MS/M/ML pack on Amazon. It’s a little pricier than just getting the single size dual pack but it’s worth it to try the different sizes at first.
I think tip selection might be the reason behind lean bass....I tried MkII, S8, and variations side by side for an hour on a single track and I find the MkII bass is better and more growly than the variations bass. I am using final E tips....
I've gone through literally over a dozen different tips with this thing. I would agree it's not as lean as Variations, but it's def lean in the mid bass.
My first iem was Salnotes Zero. I loved it but left channel died because of bad qc. Maybe i would like better technicalities (i know its too much to ask for an 20 dollar iem) and more bass tho i'm not completely sure. I'll get a new iem and streched my budget up to 50-60$ region. Looked up your ranking list but the 2 iems that got 5 starts are not suitable for me. I don't want to gamble with whether i like the fit of the etys, and ssr seems weak in the bass area - too much bright. The other iems i'm looking at have 4 stars so i don't know what to choose. What would you recommend? And also Galaxy Buds+/Buds2 are also sold around 50$, how would you compare their sound and technical performance to the top dogs of sub 50$ region.

this review helps but still torn, starting to lean against getting the monarch 2. i have b2d, love them but sometimes the low end sounds a bit on the muddy side. maybe its because im comparing them to my hd800's and lcd2.
YESTERDAY I WAS SHOCKED..i did a heaphone iem vs overear comparison that blew my mind and changed the way i think about the whole story about graphs and etc.I compared my t1 max vs my dt 880..if you find the graphs in the internet they should sound very similar in the bass region right ? WRONG Even if the p1 max measures bassier in graphs ,in reality to feel the bass as the dt 880 i had to raise more than 10 db maybe it was 15..the base on p1 max and still i didnt find it the same..With few words p1 was completely cold compared to dt 880 enormous difference same thing happened when i brought also my er2sr on the game..absolute absence of bass and warmth..so go figure what happens now in the industry..
I would say it is very accurate/natural to the source material with enough of a bass bump to compliment its overall neutral sound signature to keep it from being boring, and give it a very pleasing tuning. Hopefully that is a more useful answer then Mr. Stuckup.
The Monarch has a wider stereo image, a bit more forward vocally, and I think better micro contrast. But the Kinda Lava bass is way better IMO. The right amount of meat in the mid bass, and it's really good bass.

Omg … you completely lost me when you claimed the that blessing 2 ( who is know for not proper bass which is why the Dusk was made) had more bass than the Monarch 2 :))). I assure you this is not true for most people.

i made the mistake of going from the empire ears zeus to the monarch mkII and that really kind of ruined the monarchs soundstage, imaging, and detail for me. unfortunately the zeus has awful bass and harsh treble, yet the monarch has horrible soundstage and imaging COMPARED to the zeus. one day the perfect iem will exist, but that day is not today.

Something I don't see many reviewers mention is that the mk2 sounds really incoherent. Sure it has great detail but the cross over seems to have some issues putting it all together.

Problem is the vocals took a hit in the process but with some EQ you have the MK2 vocals with the MK3 bass 😃
What is your EQ for the vocals / in general? this is exactly what I noticed. I still enjoy it but they definitely feel off compared to the MK2

Yes, it's that cable. It also comes with the SSR, which you can get cheap enough that it's worth it to buy for the cable IMO.

Gaea fits my ear better, but I prefer Monarch's sound overall.
I absolutely love mine. I like the cable too. I did go through a few tips before I was happy with the comfort though.

@@SuperReview I settled on the AZLA SednaEarfit XELASTEC tips. They grip seal well and conform to your ear when they heat up. So if they don’t immediately seal wait about 60 seconds.
Is it true that when you buy the Xelastecs, you should go for one size down from your usual...?I have M so...and now it's tricky because they have MS and S so...😮😊
@@jaroslavfricek7772 when using them with the Monarch’s I do use the MS when usually I use M. But I think that’s just because the Monarch have such a wide nozzle. The M fit me on my 7hz Timeless. I would purchase the multi pack if not sure. I think I got the MS/M/ML pack on Amazon. It’s a little pricier than just getting the single size dual pack but it’s worth it to try the different sizes at first.

I think tip selection might be the reason behind lean bass....I tried MkII, S8, and variations side by side for an hour on a single track and I find the MkII bass is better and more growly than the variations bass. I am using final E tips....
I've gone through literally over a dozen different tips with this thing. I would agree it's not as lean as Variations, but it's def lean in the mid bass.
My first iem was Salnotes Zero. I loved it but left channel died because of bad qc. Maybe i would like better technicalities (i know its too much to ask for an 20 dollar iem) and more bass tho i'm not completely sure.
I'll get a new iem and streched my budget up to 50-60$ region. Looked up your ranking list but the 2 iems that got 5 starts are not suitable for me. I don't want to gamble with whether i like the fit of the etys, and ssr seems weak in the bass area - too much bright.
The other iems i'm looking at have 4 stars so i don't know what to choose. What would you recommend? And also Galaxy Buds+/Buds2 are also sold around 50$, how would you compare their sound and technical performance to the top dogs of sub 50$ region.
Buds Plus are surprisingly good. I haven't compared head to head, but I might even take them over $50 bassy wired sets.

MEST is more exciting, I'd take it over Monarch just on fit alone. Sound is a tradeoff but it's more unique.

this review helps but still torn, starting to lean against getting the monarch 2. i have b2d, love them but sometimes the low end sounds a bit on the muddy side. maybe its because im comparing them to my hd800's and lcd2.
YESTERDAY I WAS SHOCKED..i did a heaphone iem vs overear comparison that blew my mind and changed the way i think about the whole story about graphs and etc.I compared my t1 max vs my dt 880..if you find the graphs in the internet they should sound very similar in the bass region right ? WRONG Even if the p1 max measures bassier in graphs ,in reality to feel the bass as the dt 880 i had to raise more than 10 db maybe it was 15..the base on p1 max and still i didnt find it the same..With few words p1 was completely cold compared to dt 880 enormous difference same thing happened when i brought also my er2sr on the game..absolute absence of bass and warmth..so go figure what happens now in the industry..
Yeah I wouldn't spend much time comparing headphone and IEM graphs, too many differences to be very useful.

Lots of great ones, hard to rank them. Andromeda, Ara, S8, MEST, etc.
im sure everything v3+ and up have good ambience, but so far its a18t
I have the KZ ZSN Pros, even tho its a step down from the 10s they still sound amazing.

I would say it is very accurate/natural to the source material with enough of a bass bump to compliment its overall neutral sound signature to keep it from being boring, and give it a very pleasing tuning.
Hopefully that is a more useful answer then Mr. Stuckup.

The Monarch has a wider stereo image, a bit more forward vocally, and I think better micro contrast. But the Kinda Lava bass is way better IMO. The right amount of meat in the mid bass, and it's really good bass.

The cable is from a Moondrop SSR, standard 2-pin.

No, I think "QDC" implies the 2-pin is surrounded in a plastic knuckle that won't work with Blessing 2.

Interesting about the Ara fit, I have always stayed away because they look uncomfortable.
Yeah I almost expected something like Final Audio B3 sharpness, but the really do disappear in my ears.
@@SuperReview How much better is the imaging on the ara than something like the oracle? Since I have the dusk and oracle, I think something with more wow factor might be a better buy in the kilobuck range.
I think it's next level in terms of creating a 3D sound field, but it's not a massive difference.

i made the mistake of going from the empire ears zeus to the monarch mkII and that really kind of ruined the monarchs soundstage, imaging, and detail for me. unfortunately the zeus has awful bass and harsh treble, yet the monarch has horrible soundstage and imaging COMPARED to the zeus. one day the perfect iem will exist, but that day is not today.
The Monarchs imagining is almost on par with the u12t and the detail retrieval is on an absolute TOTL level. What are u smoking bro 🤣

Something I don't see many reviewers mention is that the mk2 sounds really incoherent. Sure it has great detail but the cross over seems to have some issues putting it all together.
