indeed. he won this AO without dropping a set. won 21 sets in a row
adding from the masters cup from 2006 he actually won 30 sets in a row. not too bad.

@@gratler His 23(6yrs) consecutive GS Semi's and 36(9yrs)consecutive Quarter's are up there with his most impressive records. Also, he made 10 consecutive GS finals, and is second with 8 as well. The 237 consecutive weeks at #1 is also next-level!
All I know is, I miss watching him play. I will now miss Rafa as well, with Novak's retirement not too far behind(possibly '25?)! We have been so blessed to watch these 3 play. Now, they are basically in our rear view mirror! Great memories!

@@edkiely2712 yes those consecutive records will probably stand forever in my opinion. its good that Roger will retain some of the records between the big 3. he really deserves it for his legacy imo.
will Tennis ever be the same after the big 3? i doubt it.
      Great memories indeed 🙂

It's matches like these that affirm my belief that Roger is the GOAT. Rafael and Novak may have won more grandslam titles, but I truly believe Roger at his peak in the 2000s was better than both of them, except on clay against peak Rafael. Everything he did was so smooth, effortless, and beautiful - his forehand, backhand, serve, footwork, volley, and speed were as though he was a computer simulated example of what a perfect player would do. Plus his mental strength was better than any before or since.

Everyone raving about this Federer performance but no one talks about how bad roddick was serving, approaching, and how passive he was from the baseline. This was a standard roddick 07 performance.
Federer's US Open 2007 match with Roddick was Federer at a higher quality. Roddick should have been 2 sets up and was playing much, much better than this - although his net approaches killed him.

I would say this is actually just post-peak Federer. In 2007 he switched from the nCode to the K-Factor racquet and even in this tournament - where he was supremely dominant and timing the ball extraordinarily well - you can see the smaller backswing and follow-through (especially on the topspin backhand) and somewhat diminished depth, power and spin. He just isn't swinging as freely and his shot selection is sometimes a bit more conservative. I see a clear difference in his form compared to the year end final just a month before.

He came down with mono late 07. That impacted him as he struggled to recover in early 08. That I feel ended his dominance. He took some big losses against Nadal and Djokovic at the slams in 08. Prior to that, he made EVERY slam final in 06 and 07
Despite the mono Fed racked up 24 consecutive grand slam semi finals or better. Yes all four slams on all four surfaces. So how bad is mono? Well it retired the 09 French open finalist, the man who downed Nadal, Soldering.
