I have been using thisas a handy reference book th-cam.com/users/postUgkxGQVgV21bQ7B9b9duQ1ByImyT9xHbjOKq . I read through the book and enjoyed the little glimpses of examples. I love that this author believes in rescue dogs. The tips and training has been invaluable and gave me moments of.... "how simple why didn't i think of it" so it's been a great tool. Thank you!

I just adopted a 18 month old female GSD. Your techniques are exactly what I'm looking for! I am so excited to "work" this sweet girl and watch her achieve her potential. She is a huge Love and VERY smart. She needs brain and body work. Thank you for what you do!

Thank you. Our 4 year old GSD mix rescue (and I) have struggled with a proper heel managing only a cheater's heel. One session and she's picked it up. Will be our new walking method from here on out. Zero reactivity walking past a group of 8 dogs then following closely behind the pack, and no need to yank on the slip lead. It's like an early Christmas present. And only 28k views? Guess it's our little secret.... JK sharing for sure!

Andy your channel is simply the best! Everyone in my family has dogs and I was never drawn to the training viewing it monotonous and not fun. I wanted to help them with the dogs while visiting and loved to find your approach is grounded in having fun, building a bond, and rewarding the dog. Entirely mutually beneficial. I've been having an absolute blast with them now and cannot wait to get my own when I settle down (travel too much as a remote worker). Thanks for the wealth of info, and especially for advocating healthy principles that make training accessible and most importantly something you and the dog can look forward to / enjoy. My parents' 10 year old black lab is pooped this morning after some heel training plus an introduction to food luring him around an object setting up for a future play session of going around before getting the toy.

Another great video! Perfect example of engagement! Your movements really help the dog to stay focused on you. I have ppl ask me if my Corso ever pulls on leash? My answer is he never had a chance, I taught him to heel. At 120lbs at 7 months old? So VERY grateful he has a fantastic heel. Btw- when he was a smaller? aka a little dog? I survived bending over to do it 😅😂❤😊

My 5 month old Giant Schnauzer keeps pushing/leaning on my left leg while teaching him to walk beside me. When I step a few inches away while trying to hold him in that position with the leash, he will keep coming towards my side to get closer so he’s back to pushing on my leg again. Ugh…….
***Update***…..Marschall is doing much better walking by my side ! I started making a lot of right turns and reverse turns and it has made quite a difference. He seems to be paying more attention on where we’re going instead of leaning on my leg now.

For safety reasons I would like to train her not to accept food at all unless she gets the ok. I gotcha so far on the "Heel" 2.0 but it didn't appear to be complete. I'm under the impression that at some point the owner/trainer will say "heel" and the dog will be at the hip; more importantly "heel" is a command that not only serves as a default manner to keep the dog posture correctly in respect to their master but to stave off instinctive behaviors that are unpleasant and inappropriate?

  • @macedoniangangster8085

Taking your dog for a walk for 15 mins and keeping it under heel command is not a good way to walk or tire your dog. That's how you just make its neck and body tense.Taking it out in the forest for that 1 hour or more and letting it run off lead is much better. The same with a puppy. It's best to a pup's body and bones to let it run off lead in its own pace, in a forest NOT in the streets.
About the prong (and e collar). It always amazes me how everyone using them says "it's the same as flat collar or harness, it's not there to punish or correct the dog"... then why won't you just use the flat collar? 😅 I've never used a prong or an e collar and I don't mean to. Why should I? I reward my dog for doing what I ask her to do. I teach new things to my dog by letting her offer actions. Like lie down, I just mark her doings when it's nearest to a down position and then I reward it. And when the dog actually gets it and lies down, I add the cue word. And I don't have to yank the lead and force her to lie down. And when teaching her new tricks etc it never takes long for her to understand what I want.
About adding distractions to heelwork, you don't have to yank the lead when the dog looks at somewhere else than you. That's just not training 🤦‍♀️ what you should do is reward the dog when it looks at you. If it looks at something else, just wait for it to look back at you. And besides, if your dog tends to look at everywhere else than you very often, it's usually because you've moved on too soon in the training. You should just go in the training field and not do heelwork etc but just reward your dog for looking at you. Just this. It's called distraction training. And of course you can do this anywhere. I do this in the field, the streets, shopping mall etc. Just rewarding the pup/dog for giving me eye contact and not caring about the distractions. No need for prongs, e collars or yanking the lead. And yes, you can do this with a malinois or a german shepherd too.

The reason I am beginning to hate the dog training videos is that you dog vloggers use already command mastered dogs. Why not get an untrained dog and making the video of it's training.
