One of the reasons I enjoy your videos is, you have saved me so much money. The Desert of Main looks like wooded areas of central Florida. Thank you again for sharing your life on the road with me.

The Desert of Maine was listed for sale on August 2, 2018. The 40-acre property, offered for $725,000, includes the “desert” and surrounding trails, the couple’s home, a 48-site campground, a gift shop and a barn that is more than 225 years old

Googled Desert of Maine, there is campground on the property, next door. If you stay at their campground, you get free admission to the desert area, the 1700's barn, Nature trails, and museums , and discounts on the family oriented
other attractions; the farm artists area, mining area, various gem and fossil hunting areas.
On the website you can watch a 3 minute video, about how the desert was formed.

Hey, the City of Freeport has a parking lot with pull through spots for just rv's and its like a block from LL bean. Also like quirky, go see the hopewell rocks in New Brunswick where the tide goes up or down 50 ft in 6 hours. Walking on the ocean floor was awesome when we went.

Fun, witty and truly beautiful. Odd faux desert.
Maine's nice, but the anti-RV attitude is odd for a state so geographically remote.
    Still worth the trip.

    Mainer
you might want to explore New Hampshire ,the desert is a well known landmark in new England , under the topsoil of Maine and New Hampshire Is sand from the last great glaciation . Back in the 1930's a framer over used his top soil and it blew away and left the sand , which slowly spread over his whole farm.

We had a farm in Penobscot, Dad would point out on the ledge rock where the glaciers scaped the ledges, we also found Indian Arrow Heads in the streams, and we had beautiful blue clay. I have never tasted water as good as that well water from the ledge waters. So sweet and fresh

    Hi Eric,
    great video as usual.
Yeah, even in the 50's, the "Desert Of Maine" was always a bit Meeaahhh!
But, Mainiacs are easily pleased. Remember, the spiciest food in Maine is Yellow Mustard and Ketchup!! ;-)
I grew up next door to the original 2-3 story L.L.Bean building. It was right on Main St. Freeport. I was 5 when I first crawled into the Old Town Canoe that was sitting on the first floor. Everyone would yell at me.
I said; "Hey, that's OUR Canoe"!! (We had one just like it at our family camp).
Thanks for bringing back those old memories.
You'll be making me very happy, as you tour my old stomping grounds!!
One of the comments talked about the Oxford 250. That's a stock car race at Oxford Plains Speedway. I think you'd have fun if there is racing going on while you are in the area.
JAX is King of the Castle!!!
    Stay safe and warm/cool.
    cheers

Acadia is beautiful but you cannot take the rig up Cadillac Mountain. I understand why after my husband and drove up there last month. But if you get to Bar Harbor there is a great diner called Everyday Joe's. It is run by a couple who full time RV. They run the diner in the summer and travel in their RV with their kids after fall. We loved it.

Where to steer the RV to? Destination: Washington D.C., Virginia Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mtns, and Natchez parkway and everything in between will get you down south in time for the next winter with a lot to see. Then perhaps swinging up to the home state of Washington to say hi to the folks and a Canada coast to coast hwy 1 tour from Vancouver Island to the east coast in time for the fall colors. Then there is always a trip to Alaska in the middle of the summer. Decisions, decisions and which ever way the wind blows at the moment too! :o) Safe travels!

That happened one week while traveling we just got out of synch and then hit sunday and not much open. So we got a room and regrouped. Too tired to tent that night with the RV, if we find s great deal like motel with breakfast, we do that. One time we got dinner, breakfast buffet and our room for $45.00 Canadian. (Back when the dollar was doing a little better)So i said lets skip the camp ground for tonight. My son just wanted to go sleep and we just made it for dinner, then went back to our room and set our alarm to see the title bore make the stream go backwards at 3am! Lol... but we did it!

    Eric,
I lived in Maine for years. I ran across several celebrities at LL Bean's store in Freeport. If you don't mind the coastal route, staying on Rte.1 will save you in tolls. If you travel north of the Freeport area you will be coming into Bath, Brunswick and Topsham. Check to see if the Reid State Park is a good destination for RVs. I haven't been there for years but I used to go body surfing there when I was a kid.
Traveling northward, you will find Boothbay Harbor...beautiful. After that, Bar Harbor...incredible. Rockport Harbor is another wonderful location although they just had their lobster festival.

Hi Eric and Jax, I would stay in Maine. I am watching those out West with their beet red faces in the sweltering hot weather- the fires, the sever weather. Be happy where you are, here in Maine, a little muggy but, still cool nights. Be sure to visit Belfast down on the water, a nice little town. Again, visit the Millinocket area and climb the Mountain, visit MooseHead Lake and Baxter Park. Yes, I knew about the desert, but, I wouldn't travel to that place, thanks for doing it for me, now I've seen it through you, reason I like your videos, seeing what I have heard about without leaving my patch of ground. And, Eric, Mainers are called Maniacs

Read one of the comments below and all I can say is, Jax can sit anywhere, anytime, anyplace he wants too! Go Jax! I would rather have a cat's fan fan on the table than a human "naked" one and I have seen a human do that. Now THAT'S truly disgusting! Safe travels always for you and Jax.

How did you first end up with Jax? Love his name. He's such a great cat. I'd like to hear his story. I love cats, can't own one right now but hopefully can soon. Seeing that globe really gives perspective of how super large our earth is.

8 years ago, Jax (a 7 week old kitten left the comfort of his litter and mom to follow my pack my new RV. He insisted on hitting the road with me. I was not a cat person or dog person at all, but I decided to let him have the life of the road, and we've been able to build the strongest bond a pet and hooman can have. :) th-cam.com/video/p272GYrjp3E/w-d-xo.html

OMG that was hilarious. Your facial expressions were killing me. Fun place. Those school kids must be having a ball. hahaha Look at the house that's buried kids. See the oasis? How about that moss and sand puffs? I had to watch it 2x I laughed so hard. I bet every time you look at that magnet, your going to laugh.

All good. Was interested in seeing the Desert in Maine. It just like seeing the Plymouth Rock. At least that's free to see the disappointment. Also the Desert of Maine looks like Florida where they cleared out a spot to build houses . When my house was being built I felt like it was at the beach.

I went to that Desert of Maine back in the late 90’s. Got the real thing here in Colorado now with the great sand dunes National Park. I’m so jealous you went to LL Bean. My friends wouldn’t let me go in there.

That desert as an attraction looked like a joke. "Trust us. There's a buried house right here." Ok...
And Jax on the laundry was friggin' hilarious.

I live in freeport, love it here. Great place for a family to live. Desert of Maine has a interesting history but the price to see it is ridiculous. I know of only one parking lot that I see over night rv parking and not much room there. Wish I could have help you with that. Love watching you and jax 😊

I had no idea that Maine had a desert. Jax is like my little dog. She loves clean laundry to roll in, even her own bed or the bath room rug.

Jax seems a lot like my kitties. It looks like he needs to learn how to relax a little...LOL!
