    The singer and guitarist is Joe Walsh. He played with the James Gang before going solo. Then he joined the Eagles and also maintained a solo career. Some of his other big hits without the Eagles are: "Funk #49", "Life's Been Good", "Rocky Mountain Way", and bunch of others. Personally I like one of his lesser known hits "The Confessor". All of them have Joe's great guitar work. You saw Joe play on "Hotel California". He was the guitarist in the bandana.

    Joe Walsh, the lead singer and guitarist of the James Gang, was an Air Force brat. He was born near you guys in Wichita and eventually ended up in Ohio where he attended Kent State University and studied electrical engineering. Joe is a licensed ham radio operator and really knows his electronics, using his skills to modify guitars and amps to his personal preferences. In 1991, when a horrific tornado hit eastern Wichita and devastated the town of Andover, Joe held a solo show at Wichita's Cotillion Ballroom with the admission fee of two cans of food for storm victims. Definitely a cool guy!

      Back in the 60's we would hear on the radio a ,Frank Sinatra song, followed by Sonny & Cher, then Jim Morrison and the Doors and Johnny Cash.(of course lots of Beatles).
      No one worried or even thought about genres.

    • @Hexon66
      @Hexon66 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@bobr4987 Of course people cared about genres then, and it wasn't that far removed from the designation of "race" music. But categorizing music doesn't have to be reductive or divisive. It's a useful way for people to discuss music, the influences and evolutions, the cross-overs etc. What people need to do is let go of this selective nonsense about how much better the good ol' days were

    You can't go wrong with Joe Walsh! One of my faves of all time! Besides this one, 2 of the other hits to check out would be "Funk#49" & "Rocky Mountain Way".
    Interesting to describe with the word "Grunge". Never thought of that since the term came along in the 90's, but yes. It is the same style & I guess Joe Walsh probably invented it then. He has some distortion on the guitar that gives that crunchy sound. He's a rocker, but there's also some funk influence & other things.

    • @ccookie7913
      @ccookie7913 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      D'oh! Reading the comments, I guess you already reacted to "Rocky Mountain Way".
      Some later Joe Walsh solo recommendations would be "Life's Been Good" (very long for today's short attn. spans, but they played it non-stop on radio at the time where I was growing up. He's got a good sense of humor that comes out on that one) "Life of Illusion", one of my all time faves, but unfortunately have never found a copy of the original video. (The song stands on its' own w/o question, I just remember liking the vid & wanting to see it. He was in battle gear, riding around on a tank in what looked like a garbage dump...can't remember it, because I can't find it!) ,"In the City" (theme song for the movie "The Warriors", which is fun if you haven't seen it) & "The Confessor", which came out later

    Joe Walsh, all time great early on in his Illustrious Career! The James Gang was very underrated and were their best when Joe Walsh was still lead singer and guitarist. For more great studios try Funk 49, The Bomber and for Amber, Midnight Man. What you really Need to hear from them is the amazing James Gang Live album. It is incredible from start to finish and Joe gets to show all his skills on electric and acoustic guitars and Hammond organ along with lead vocals. For a jolt of electricity try the the 2 song opener of Stop and Your Gonna Need Me, those songs lead seamlessly into another and are some of the fiercest lead hard rock and blues rock guitar ever in music history. I tell you, James Gang Live will be one of the best bangers you ever hear. Enjoy! 🎸

    There've been a couple of times when y'all have listened to an early seventies rock song and said that it sounds like nineties grunge. That's because that grunge sound was reviving sounds from the early seventies, consciously. Bands from the grunge era even had late sixties-early seventies-sounding names like Mother Lovebone and Pearl Jam and Soundgarden and Nirvana and wore the long, natural-looking hair of the late sixties-early seventies, which had been very "out" in the eighties. Even the massive nineties rap-rock band Rage Against the Machine incorporated a lot of early seventies-sounding, Black Sabbath-style power riffs and had lyric references to sixties social justice figures like Fred Hampton, Malcolm X, and MLK.

    Joe didn't just play with the James Gang, he was the James Gang. You should find their LIVE from Carnegie Hall if you really want to know their capabilities. Joe eventually went to the Eagles and will forever be linked to Hotel California and the brilliant side by side guitar solo with Don Felder. Joe though was as famous for his excesses with Alcohol and Drugs, as he was for his playing. Fortunately he got help and has been clean and sober for almost 20 years.
    Fun fact: Joe was at the final Beatle Concert in 68 at Shea Stadium. Also in the crowd was Joe's future wife and her sister who eventually married Joe's brother- in- law, who was the drummer for the Fab Four, Ringo Starr.

He’s got a distinctive voice and can shred a lead guitar solo.

    This is one of the easiest songs to hear how a kick drum can make a track. That syncopation is something you usually hear on the snare. Kills me every time. Their drummer is like a mix of Keith Moon and James Brown’s Clyde Stubblefield.

    that drummer is playing genius drums. He plays the toms like congas, and the cymbal bell work adds so much spice. But then he goes into a shuffle on the hats that sounds like brushes back and forth. That bass is heavy lifting too- he laying the bricks so the drummer can dance around. This rhythm section needs so much more recognition. Joe Walsh, we know he is wild on the frets and bends

    A couple of months ago you reacted to Rocky Mountain Way from Joe Walsh who later was in the Eagles. You guys should do a Sunday "reaction to your reaction" video where you talk about what you learned from the comments from that week's videos. I always wonder if you go back and maybe look up more info on the artists. For example you did a live version of Van Halen's Eruption but would love for you to hear the original from the album. The fact that you didn't identify George Harrison from the Beatles in that Traveling Wilbury's song. Or recognized pretty much ALL the singers in Band Aid from your reaction videos (except Bono). Just saying...

    Haven't heard this in ages, and actually forgot about it.
    It's interesting to me that you guys would think this is a newer song, while I on the the other hand would definitely says it's from the '70s.
    Maybe because I love a lot of music from that decade and have gotten used to and can recognize the sound.
    I listen some classical music, but if you had me to listen to Bach and Brahms, I'm not educated enough in that genre to say that I can tell what year what was released, just by listening. Is it from the 1600's, the 1800's? Baroque? Renaissance? All I could say is "It's classical music and I like it".
    We're all learning! :)

Got himself out of the bottle and is still quite the character. Love all James Gang muse. Funk #49, Woman, Stop are great bluesy funky tunes. Wonder if I'll see my home again
      Will it be dry tomorrow?
      Time passes softly and I'm a day older

  • @brolinofvandar
    @brolinofvandar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The beginning for singer/songwriter/guitarist Joe Walsh. After leaving James Gang, he was in Barnstorm. Marketed as Joe "going solo", I believe the branding as "Joe Walsh and Barnstorm" was the label's idea, not Joe's. He just saw himself as part of the band. Probably the biggest hit from that era would be "Rocky Mountain Way", which also demonstrates Joe's use the voice box to enhance his playing. Then, he surprised a lot of fans (like myself) at the time, by joining the Eagles.
    Since his involvement with the Eagles, he has also maintained a solo career alongside, or in between active phases of, the Eagles. Hits from that period would include the likes of "Life's Been Good".
    Saw the Eagles on their "History of the Eagles" tour. First half of the show, they "built" the band, adding members on stage as the music moved through their history, until they got to adding Joe. Then, they took a break. The second half of the show, was largely a Joe Walsh concert with the Eagles as his backing band. They not only continued the progression of Eagles material, they also mixed in some of Joe's non-Eagles material. And Joe stepped up as front man.
    Lesser known about Joe are that he also guested on slide guitar for a couple of songs on REO Speedwagon's third album, "Ridin' The Storm Out".
    Or that he has a cameo at the end of the movie "Blues Brothers" (prison concert scene at end, first inmate to jump up on a table and dance is Joe).
