I've lived in Memphis for 8 years and none of the locals have ever recommended The Four Way. It's purely a historical place. I've heard for years that the food isn't good. Now for delicious soul food, head to Ms. Girlies' in North Memphis. Amazing.
Serving fresh vegetables should be a given at any restaurant. Why would anyone go to a restaurant to eat canned stringbeans and broccoli? And gravy from a jar? Really?? No thanks.
This place reminds me of The Hot Shoppes in the DC area. The Hot Shoppes served cafeteria style comfort food catering primarily to seniors. They served discounted meals certain part of the day and the seniors would flock. The food was just ok, but not the best of food. Places like the 4 Way Grill are popular to those in the community. It probably was the dinner spot for the civil rights movement folks. They will not lose any business from Darius review because their customers are loyal. The owners will not even make any changes based on Darius recommendation.

You pointed out several dishes that had the same gravy. Well, that’s not uncommon in Soul food/ Southern style restaurants. There are typically two choices: chicken, beef, or country white gravy). A lot of diners, greasy spoons, cafeterias use gravy mix to make gravy because it’s less time consuming. Restaurants don’t waste time on making gravy, they have other priorities. However, what I did like about your critique, you pointed out the freshness and quality of the food. Food quality, freshness, taste and temperature are important. Cold cornbread dressing is a no, no and bad or old grease is unacceptable! I speak from experience (personally and professionally)! Keep sharing!😊Thanks for patronizing small businesses!😊
I have eaten at 4 way restaurant plenty of times. The food is delicious. I’m in my early 40s the food taste so good. I promise if you stop by and eat there. You will eat your entire plate.
The 4-Way was the business back in the day! Their dressing, Mac and cheese, and catfish used to be so good. It doesn’t surprise me to hear they’ve fallen off and I certainly wasn’t surprised by the greeter’s attitude. His lazy self saw the camera and still got smart. 🤦🏾♀️ That’s that Memphis spirit in most of the 50-65 year olds here, though.
Not the original Four Way Grill owners, unfortunately they passed and the owners now bought the place...the name is historic but not the owners I believe the owners now have been there 25 years give or take

A real cook can look at food and tell you what’s what. That’s why I don’t go either the hype of some “Black Owned” restaurants. Everybody can’t cook. But they think it’s good. NO! Your food must have flavor and look appealing to the eye.
