I understood individuality and its power when I met creatives in Japan, a good amount of their art, music, and fashion comes down to unique expressions, def inspired me to own more of what I do instead of trying to completely copying someone else

Just be yourself man, forcing yourself to be unique you tend to lose yourself so just be you and do what feels right for or to you

The thing is, I can’t be myself. I feel like I’m not able to be myself at school. But when I come home I’m a whole different person. I just wish I could be the same way I am at home as I am at school.

@@ismagicgone626 I used to be the same way until I realized that no matter what people will judge me, people will either love or hate me regardless of what I do so might as well just be myself. It’s better to embrace yourself than to try to be something different.

I can't even express how much this man has helped me navigate early adulthood through his music and philosophy. Growing up in the hood in LA, black kids weren't really "allowed" to be into skateboarding or ska music or anything that went against the grain, without being scrutinized or ostracized from the group. N*E*R*D- Fly or Die is still my all-time favorite album, it helped me through college when I felt alone and misunderstood. I learned that it's ok to be different, and to not be ashamed of it. Salute to Pharrell, thank you for being "other".

I disagree with what Pharrell said early in this video , “cool isnt something you can teach it’s something you’re born with” being “cool” and innovative comes with being original and fine tuning you’re own unique style anyone can do it if they truly want to but they have to separate themselves from the herd and mix what they like and it’s trail and error, granted some are more artistically inclined but taste can be learned and appreciated so being “cool” is a learnable skill not just some gift only special ppl have

I disagree. Cool is being able to go to a thrift store and buying clothes worth 10bucks and being constantly stopped for your style. Cool is not giving a fawk what anyone thinks if you walk barefoot. Many people with money think they can buy cool. You can’t buy cool ! You are born with it. You either gave it or don’t ! So many people have so much money yet so Poor. Cool is wealth and it has nothing to do with money.

How I interpreted that statement is that everyone has a sense of "cool" that is unique to them and only them. It was never given to them by someone else. it's not learnable in the sense that you can acquire it by reading a step-by-step process in a book. Cool originates from within and our perception of what it is depends on us and what we personally find interesting.

Individuality comes from within and you either have it or you don’t. Too many copy cats now days, they see someone with a certain style and they automatically copy it. Style is style and fashion is fashion. The majority of people are not trendsetter but followers. Look around and how many people are wearing the same clothes? Being an individual means you don’t follow the bunch you do what you like.
