One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written and David plays and sings it, so amazingly. Heavenly music. Worthy of praise.
The first time I heard this I was in tears. It so perfectly describes a sleepless night of crying out to the Lord and after a long night of prayer being engulfed in His presence.

To answer your question, "is there anything David can't do" When it comes to music, there is no mountain to high for David Phelps to sing to perfection. He is the epitome of a Jack of all trades when it comes to music.

He plays the piano in "The Lily" from the Freedom DVD, fabulous song. "The Dream" from this taping is one of my favorite songs ever, it shows his vocal excellence.
Oh, wow!!! His lower register, and then floating up to the higher notes! Incredible!!

Loved love it! I just bought this dvd and am so glad I did. I also agree on why aren't they standing? I felt the same way on another one. Lol I don't think I would ever sit down at one of his concerts. Praying the Lord will heal me at least long enough for a concert. Thank you Lyle. Great job as ever!

I love too that even in the lower registers, David's voice is gorgeous and deep.
You've got to hear him sing "Just as I am". You will be shaking your head with disbelief from beginning to end. It's a gigantic WOW.

He’s recorded two lyric versions of this song. This one on the Classic album and another one that has very different lyrics (to say the least) on his The Voice album.

You should watch the interview Bill Gaither does with David Phelps and his family. I think you'd really enjoy it. David plays the piano and sings during that interview, too.
This is a late comment. Oh yes he plays the piano. He has to in order to write all of the songs he has written. He doesn't play as much in his live concerts because he has to concentrate more on his singing. As I have said before, I never realized how many songs he has written. He is so talented. I love to listen to him. I have every CD and DVD he has ever made. If I could I would go to his concerts and see him live.

Anyway, David is actually a baritone, trained to sing tenor/alto.
Can sing pretty much anything.

The lyrics are original! I believe he wrote this after talking with a friend about the death of the friend's wife. You can hear the love and despair in the lyrics!

He also plays guitar no idea if he plays anything else though, he claims he's not very good at playing guitar but I've never heard him so no idea again.
He also used to play trumpet like his sister (who plays in this "classic" concert).
