Lyle, I'm praying that you get to hear David in concert one day and meet him. He has a wicked sense of humor that I think you would appreciate. Absolutely incredible....one of the most beautiful vocals I have ever seen. I have seen David live 11 times but have never seen him sing this in person. His talent is unparalleled and he is very gracious, humble and down to earth.
When i hear and see Phelps sing...i am reminded that there is still beauty in the world: we just have to be more intent in seeking it out...and that is why moments like this performance draw me into the beauty....i cannot find the words other than be grateful for such inspiration.

David's mom is a big opera fan. David said his family had season tickets to the opera. He also studied classical music in college. On a funny note, David said his dad learned to sleep with his eyes open at the opera! lol
What's really interesting is that there are a lot of fantastic singers in the audience and you just know that all of them are thinking..."OMG, how is he doing that? I can't do that!!!

I came up with over 30. And the funny thing is, I'm sure there's even more if we can dig out various copies of thesauruses. (Thesaurusi??? LOL) I just know that after he finishes each song, it takes me a minute scrambling around down on my knees on the floor, looking for my lower jaw.
He changed one word in this to, as he said, "make it a little bit more appropriate for me to sing." He included it on the "Classic" project at the insistence of Bill Gaither.
I seen David's wife and Gloria...missed his mom, are you sure she as there... His wife looks like their daughters while their sons are 'mini' me to David.

Now i moved to listening to the cam recording of his fans, and still blown away. Each song is sang differently in each performance and blow you away.
Lyle, you need to go to David Phelps' Barn Bash 2021. He has one on Labor Day (September) and then he has 2 at Christmas time (Nov 28 and 29 I think this year). Look on his website. HEY EVERYONE DON'T YOU THINK WE CAN RAISE THE MONEY TO SEND LYLE FROM AUSTRALIA TO TENNESSEE TO MEET DAVID IN PERSON??? I do!!!
Lyle - you should also check out another of the Gaither Homecoming tenors - Larry Ford. He’s a very trained lyrical Irish tenor, and has a simply phenomenal voice. Different from David’s, but no less powerful.
David, as much as I love you singing this is a song for a soprano! None better who sings this is the Aussie soprano Mirusia who sang with Andre Rieu for 8 years. Also Carmen Monarcha does a great job. It is the same when women try to sing Nessun dorme it just does not work. Well in my humble opinion anyway.
