    Its been years since i have seen one of these.I worked in the early 80's for a Suzuki motorcycle shop in the Bay of Plenty.we had a regular customer with one of these which was air cooled.It was very similar motor to the Suzuki Gt750 motorcycle motor, just half the cc rating.They sounded great, but smoked a little. Biggest problem was the 3 sets of points not lasting very long before needing replacing. Fairly high maintenance as well due to motor vibration,etc. My memory is a bit hazy though.

    Yeah. I don't imagine there'd be 4-seater cars much smaller than this one.

    The first Suzuki car I've ever seen here in the USA was the first gen. Suzuki Cultus, sold between 1983 and 1988. I believe we first saw the car between 1985 and 1988. At the time, it was sold in North America (USA included) as the Chevrolet Sprint.

  • @wasabicars
    @wasabicars  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wasn't sure. My info sources were saying that their was a change over somewhere in the middle of production. And, yeah. The body does say air-cooled.

    A suzuki GSR engine would do wonders for this cute little coupe

    It's aircooled, with a fan System, 3 Cyl. two stroke, engine dimensions are quite similar to the GT550 motorbike!

    I have a few friends in Puerto Rico who could squeeze about 225-250 horsepower out of that engine. No lie!! I know a mechanics son, who stroked, bored, port and polished a Briggs Stratton lawnmower engine to a go-cart and made 52 bhp!!! Simply amazing!!! 8^o

    anyway, it's extremely nice. And thankyou for letting me know that this car exists

  • @wasabicars

    That, I believe is a Honda N360. It's got a slightly different front on it than the ones I usually see. A later model I think.

    • @michaelglover832
      @michaelglover832 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, not a Honda... a Suzuki all the way through. I remember they It had an electroluminescent instrument cluster... the first time I had ever seen such a thing... I seem to recall that they were quite expensive, they were made out of high tensile steel which was baked after assembly to super-harden the steel body, AND they rusted, better than anything made in Italy!

  • @karlhubben8009
    @karlhubben8009 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry, this later models are watercooled, the earlier models were (fan) aircolled!

    Best as I can tell, all the coupes were water-cooled, even if parts of the design seem to say "air-cooled"

  • @MrAnimethunder
    @MrAnimethunder 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Did a little research on the Fronte and found that it is a 3 cyl. air cooled motorcycle based engine and was water cooled in 1971. And the design is based off of the B100 motor cycle engine. The designer was Giugiaro of Italdesign who penned the body style of the VW Scirocco and Isuzu Impulse and this car. Are the wheels Alpina ?? Nice looking body style and paint. Wonder what a 4 cyl. VW engine with dual carbs would run or a newer Suzuki motor cycle engine in it ?? Can you say HOT rod !! ^_^

    I do! (Actually, was it red?) I didn't know the 1st & 2nd generations were so different. I thought it was a simple headlight/tail-light update. Either way, they are rare in Japan.

    Gave it to a chick who flipped airborne in it with a child in the back carseat.
    Both walked away.
    Car total rightoff.

    I have in my possession a very early example, ( Chassis Number 100027, Engine Number 100039) of the car that replaced the Fronte, which was the SC100, a similar but slightly bigger coup powered by a 970cc Four Cylinder Four Stroke mptpr that makes a neck snapping 47 Horsepower. In some markets they are called Mighty Boy's, and have a different frontal treatment, but here in New Zealand the forty cars we got had a similar frontal treatment to the Fronte pictured here. It's a great little car, which is becoming very rare, mainly because they were very prone to rust, and not designed to last any length of time?

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! I had to google to make sure. Hadn't known them at SC100. I have seen a couple, both with round headlights. Yours are square?

    • @barrykochverts4149
      @barrykochverts4149 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you still have your SC100? I have one of two that I am aware of in America. Brought it in from Holland, so it's left hand drive, which is better here. They certainly don't have the classic clean look of a Fronte, given the necessity of a large radiator, but they are much easier to live with with 4 strokes and 47 hp. The gearing is also perfect.

  • @beaka50
    @beaka50 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    From memory the rotary bike was called an RE5 and was put out in the mid 70's. They were very smooth , but not startling performance and quite thirsty. Some collectors in New Zealand own them, but i think the biggest issue is spark plugs or lack of. Last time i saw some plugs for sale, they were about $70ea.Dan, Have you seen that RE5 running. I never saw one apart from in catalogues or posters.Be neat to see a photo of your neighbours! I know!!! I know! WasabiCARS!!! How about start Wasabikes

    @Kavinsky Smith. I wish I knew! I was there with friend of mine picking up a weber carb he had there rebuilding. The guy who rebuild the carb was bragging about how his son with 13 years old has been watching him since he was 5 or 6 did the engine. He also said that after watching his kid fly around in that thing, he took it away from him before he got hurt. lol

    I've seen both. I don't have a video of the early 117 Coupe, just photos. Did you see this slightly later one? /watch?v=UbmxC0ajm50 As for the 432, I have photos & a video that I'm yet to post. Unsure when I can do that though. :/

    G'day mate. Sweet looking Suzuki Fronte. I've seen pics of the car, but I've never seen one in person, nor have I seen a video of the car. Sadly, for some reason, the Fronte was never sold in the U.S.A.

    Hmm seen any Isuzu 117 Coupes around? the earlier the better, like a 68 to 69 there sort of like an Italian styling Japanese mechanical hybrid.
    or a Nissan 240 Z 432, 4 valves, 3 carbs and two camshafts with the stock engine in it?

  • @wasabicars

    ah sorry I had forgotten you had done one of those already, you said requests and that was the first that came to my mind as I was thinking of the latter one in this video
    watch?v=nznJTaiqZMo
    which looks like its got a Citroen front end, not an italian one
    with the 432 it seems like theres no videos of a stock one and its motor from what I could find, only one that had decent quality and the engine had been taken out and replaced with a skyline motor.

      Sorry, but you have the wrong ideas about it. It's a car at a car show. Did you know that cars can not be started/on during the event? Several years ago a particularly enthusiastic enthusiast wanted to share the engine sounds with people and got banned from the event. Perhaps you would have me be there early or stay late to record it in action, would you? The event is like a 4-5 hour round trip from my house. I'm sorry, but that's a lot of effort for me to go to satisfy your wish to hear this car. Surely, there would be at leave one video on this here internet with the sounds you desire
