accidentally found a new way to catch flounder! (catch and cook flounder)

- So about a month ago I was fishing and saw a bullred chasing something super close into the jetty rocks. It disappeared were two rocks met and I casted a soft plastic there, let it sink and then bam I had a sea turtle of all things on the line. I reel it in to unhook it and then it turns out to be a massive flounder! Then he got off lol but I came back to try out this technique with some live mullet and it worked out. Flounder catch and cook.

A lot of fishermen don't know just how aggressive flounder are. I have had the exact same experience as you while fishing as a young man off the jetties off the end of Matagorda peninsula. I had a huge flounder come up from beside the rocks and hit a red plastic I was fishing. After that, I routinely cast around the rocks and caught many flounder like that. Of course, I lost a lot of lures that got caught on rocks too. :)

Was that 2nd redfish tagged? 6:38 it looks like a tag by its pectoral fin. Or its a piece of straw or weed. Tags are usually by the dorsal fin but it could have been one. Take a look

Not saying the quality is bad but the last 4 videos or so haven’t had as much good b-roll and seem like a little less editing and filming effort. You can get away with it but please, the reason you’re my favorite TH-camr is because you’re editing and footage game is unreal. Try wide gap hooks to live bait flounder. I always give them a 10 count after I feel them thump.

Love the videos and enthusiasm. Great flounder catch. Ive fished them for 40 years now. Might want to check recent regulation changes though on that treble hook. They are basically out for game fish now a days. Florida for sure which is where I am. A buddy in Galveston invited me to come fish the run and told me no treble hooks allowed. You mentioned you havent targeted them with hooks and live bait so just looking out for ya.

#1,,, get yourself some very large slip bobbers,,, set them to about 2'-3' deep,, work your way down to 7'-8', & hit every one of those nooks & crannies in those rocks,,,,, you'll slay those flounder! Use the smaller mullet, or even 1/2 at a time, so he can get the whole baitfish or chunk in it's mouth. Cast, pop, & a crank,,, all along the shoreline,,, go all the way down & work your way back. ;>)

Thanks for the great video Cooper. Coincidentally I was at mantanzas Inlet today, near St Augustine Florida , and the mullet were in there like crazy. Every cast net throw caught Lots. You can almost catch them with your hands! Tons of birds and things blowing up everywhere. I caught my first two flounder today so kind of weird maybe I'll try that ceviche

I catch Alot of Flounder and I use only Kahle hooks.
One tip.When you feel the Flounder bite..STOP..Do not set the hook.I count to 10 slowly..which gives the Flounder time to swallow the bait..then I slowly lift up..if I feel the Flounder on I then set the hook.Yes..if you use circle hooks you just reel as fast as you can to set the hook.
And that's how I catch my Flounder.
Great vid but here’s a tip, when you set the hook, pull sideways and not up for a better hookup. The rod bends too much and doesn’t let the hook set deep in the fish’s mouth when you pull up instead of sideways.
Next time Nose hook em 😭😭😭 you’ll def catch the flounder easier

You need to do a challenge vid where you cant cast, only drop right below your feet and see what you catch. Be very interesting to see whats right under you. Betcha some big fish.

If you bleed those fish first by cutting their gills while they are on the stringer, the meat is even better.
Bro good vid but if you want flounder you need to use sand fleas as bait. I am from st. Pete but live in crystal river and any one who flounder fishes around here or down there use sand fleas. They destroy them.

i watched my rod fly off the jetty as something bent it over and broke the rod holder, was a thicc rod too so it mustve been a shark or something. 180 dollars down the drain. didnt even catch anything on that rod yet :(.
