  • 5/19/15 - After staying the night in a cabin along Oak Creek, the first thing we did was hit Broken Arrow Trail. Broken Arrow is a popular and short 4x4 trail popular for Jeep tours in Sedona. It offers numerous challenges, the most notable being the infamous Devil's Staircase - a rock staircase vehicles must descend to reach the exit of the trail. The trail also gives you the opportunity to get up close and personal and wheel on top of the beautiful red rocks. You'll need 4-wheel drive, high clearance, and skid plates if you don't want vehicle damage.

Beautiful country, a 2/5 rated trail from the looks of it. Thanks for sharing

I apologize, I thought the Devil's starcase is that Steep hill that they use for those Motorcycycle competitions where each one of them tries to climb all the way to the top of it...

I'll be at the trail at sunrise to avoid the Pink Jeeps!

How long does the entire trail take timewise?

You can probably do it in 1-2 hours, depending on how much you stop/how much traffic there is. The whole trail is only about 4 miles round-trip!

Do you have to drive the staircase, or can you go around it?

It's optional. The trail to Chicken Point is two-way. The staircase is an an optional 1-way loop back to the start.

Do you need a permit or anything? I'll be in Sedona in two weeks with my 1st Gen Tundra. Really looking forward to this trail. Thanks for posting it.

Have you taken the back route to Crown King from Prescott via Senator Highway?
