That's because we are a Democratic constitutional republic. Majority rules is often not the best. We'd still likely have slavery, woman wouldn't vote, and gay rights would certainly not have become a term even used if the minority always lost.

@@simonfairall5122 I suppose. Same sex marriage has only been allowed for 4 years. Almost 2013 but courts said no and it took 22 bills over 9 years to finally get it passed. Slavery ended in 1833 because of the British, not Australia, but what could ya do.
I suppose what hasn't been done that a majority want in America? Having 50 separate states who usually do things by majority allows for a lot to happen or states run experiments everyone else watches. Like Marijuana the last decade. Each State can decide where their votes go and how they use them, which most states go by popular vote for all their delegates, some split by percentage. We don't do national popular vote because states like CT or RI who have very different needs then Texas, would never ever have a say in the presidency. Same with any low population state. Cities and rural areas all need to be represented in order for their needs to be seen. You think any presidency ever really cares what Idaho wants, or do they listen to those people because they have a significant number of delegates come election time.

Because that is what you are talking about with Constitutional amendments. PS: Gay rights didn't come from that at all. First to give them the vote at all was New Zealand. Know who legalised same sex marriage first? The Danish, you lot where 17th and its not in your constitution anyway so its hardly immortalised. Of course Australia didn't abolish slavery before the British did, we weren't our own nation until 1901, the British abolished the slave trade in 1833; we didn't exist yet. And slavery didn't end there, you lot held onto it for another 32 years. Hell, it wasn't even a crime everywhere until 2007. (Mauritania if you're curious).
I'm sorry for getting heated but it pisses me off massively when Americans think they're responsible for everything good in the world; you're not. And the fact remains the way your leaders are elected is innately undemocratic. Know how elections work here and basically everywhere else in the world? The person who got the most votes, wins. Simple as that. Since your counties inception, the loser of an election has somehow become the president FIVE TIMES. And it's because you somehow think it's more democratic to let some peoples votes count for more because of where they live. That's idiotic. You installed the system to appease slave states, because they where in the minority and you kept it because the republicans benefit from it and for some reason you refuse to edit your constitution despite that being what the damn thing is for.
I can't speak to other nations, but over here we have mandatory (once you enroll you vote every election or get fined, it actually works very well) voting and preferential voting. Which means we all vote and our views of who we want the most and the least are represented on the ballot. It means counting the votes takes longer, but it's more representative of what people want.

It is like a monarchy, with a separate head of state and government, but unlike a monarch, the President is political and cant serve as a apolitical unifying force. There are actors on B'way that have to rehearse for months to give recitations that are far less dramatic than Colbert's monologues. It is amazing to see him do these so flawlessly given the few hours since they are written until he delivers them without a hiccup in the comedy timing. It's unfortunate because in trumps seconds term he was going to put in congressional term limits however he could. I think he would be one of the few to not give a shit about the members and actually get that done, especially in a final term. @@SuperJohn12354 The boosters worked well in protecting against severe infections for Delta. However, they have already started work on boosters for Delta and Omicron variants. Of course those take time and since the current vaccine is still quit effective, it is better to give a booster to the most endangered. If big Pharma really wanted to make money, they would forget the vaccines and just focus on the treatments. There is big money in the treatments. The vaccines are much more cost effective.

Huge campaign donations coming from corporations and foreign interests are "buying" our government, and thus, writing our laws. Both parties are guilty of this.
