The confident guy is an arrogant guy who has learned to be smooth about it. Humility absolutely destroys self confidence and makes anything except the most menial work impossible.

Just love your videos Jocko, why because having watched a whole bunch of videos scrutinizing the minutiae of various aspects of life , health , science you name it , what do we need to do ?
    Get real .
For me the only "man" who ever existed whose life still inspires the greatest souls, learn from him , this needs great humility to submit to the Divine Will , to that transcendent principle , to let go at some point of one's obsessions , one's small world stuff and see a much bigger picture come into view .
This requires humility do which is "more mature" , otherwise blind spots and self justifications and all manner of delusional thinking remain , can we build a life from the bottom up ?
Often we loose site that which is most humane , essential and actually most rewarding often preserving the relationship without being inauthentic . So when I get lost and that is invariably 90% of the time I remember His advice "Thyne Will be done ".
Otherwise great , for me perhaps the greatest treatise on humility St Benedict of Clervaiux , "the twelve steps of humility" all most infinite depth , phd level stuff ,.the difference between haute cuisine and ...ine4dible fair , so the problem is in today's world though too many chefs ....
Loved the humour , and why can't your'e daughter come on the podcast ? What is tapping out ?

I don't agree with you guy's always saying that you should do Jiu-Jitsu to build confidence. I personally and specifically trained Jiu-Jitsu to build confidence because I followed advice like this because I thought if I just showed up and was consistent I would develop authentic confidence and belief in myself when it comes to being able to defend myself. The reality was that for 2 years I trained as hard as I could and mostly just got my ass kicked and my main strength was getting injured and I got nicknamed Mr. Glass by a couple of the fighters at the gym. I might also end up having to get neck surgery because of herniated discs in my neck from Jiu-Jitsu. I stumbled my way to a blue belt but felt even less confident than when I entered the gym because instead of being humbled by the reality of not being able to defend myself and then overcoming that and being able to defend myself. I just got stuck in the phase of I don't know how to confidently defend myself because of my spine injuries. I learned the lesson that some people like myself are just injury-prone and have bad spine genetics, and if you have bad spine genetics the LAST thing you should do is grappling. The reason is is that although jiu-jitsu is a very effective martial art, it won't be for you because you won't be able to train enough to become effective at it. Moreover, some people are naturally very untalented at grappling and injury-prone and if you put a lot of effort into something and months and years go by and you still suck at it and are getting tapped out by everybody it's going to make you bitter, resentful, and less confident. I don't think you guys can understand that perspective because when you did jiu-jitsu you guys saw progress and didn't get injured and ridiculed. The better advice and more honest advice would be "hey try jiu-jitsu and if you see progress and feel more confident then stick with it." "If not you should quit sooner rather than later and find a different martial art that is effective for self-defense and that you see progress in that makes you more confident." If you have money I would advise you to take private one on one lessons with a black belt that way you won't into injury-riddled deathmatches with white belts who have a fragile ego. I personally found boxing to be the most effective and least damaging on my spine compared to the other more effective martial arts like Muay Thai, Wrestling, Judo, and Kickboxing. Just wanted to share that because I don't think a lot of people share that perspective and I want to make others feel less alone if they experienced something similar.

Weak people tell you that being humble is cope, but they keep stuck in life, because of their victim mindset. The demons control them and not the other way around. The optimistic and mindful people on the opposite know that there are humans outside who have to deal with war, hunger and cancer. They are thankful for their possibilities and power that other people lack and would be dissatisfied if they didn't make the best out of it.

Humility may be one of those things that is good in moderation but very toxic in excess..
There has to be some kind of common sense limit to the I-am-a-worm-and-not-a-man mentality that books on humility present to us.

Jocko why world power when the natural world is powerful enough. If people want business as usual it’s business as usual they will get. If you don’t have a proper goal in life to achieve you will have a lot of rules that will be broken like it or not. Why search for all the complicated parts. Is it complicated to be hungry, thirsty, to love, to have friends to need a roof over your head is it more difficult? What are we searching for in life? To expect another planet to be waiting no wonder there is all this destruction!…
