Chien po has major potential, it’s just missing a few pieces. Baxcalliber is great, but the issue is without it the deck can’t function. Sure palkia exists and can help, but especially with iron hands, it’s just a loss no matter what, got a plakia setup, alright ima boss KO it for 3 prizes, then just prize trade after you kill it. We need better ways to accelerate energy, a alternative option.
I play with chien-pao ex too, unfortunately as in Brazil chien-pao is super expensive I play with just two and to compensate for this I also use 2x2 Palkia Vstar. For draw power I prefer mew ex than bibarel, because I don't have to depend on just evolutions
I just hate that I REALLY want this Deck to work. I don't have any group to play near me and online is just.. different. Which means I don't have too much time to test stuff for a second deck. Built a Miraidon Deck but idk, I'm not too happy yet and went back to Chien-Pao for the League I went to yesterday (1 1/2h drive on a workday afternoon, that's the closest to me) as we played a short fun tournament - so no more testing Miraidon again, so I just wanna stick to CP xX

Great video!! I'm taking notes about your sequencing.
What are your thoughts on playing Chien Pao Town Store with Rotom V/Lumineon V... and without Iron Hands? I felt that my deck is way more consistent and I was surprised how often I was able to pull off a Counter Catcher/Boss's Order with Canceling Cologne play. With that said... I didn't even think about dropping down to 2 Chien Paos. I might try that out with my deck.
In my list I use 1 copy of Palkia Vstar to go against 1 price decks and to help when I don't get my baxcalibur set up in time or get knocked out, I use 2 bosses instead of one counter catch it seems more usable and a pokegear instead of the 2nd Iono so I have more chances to find Irida.
I think Chien-Pao has a pretty good matchup spread so its still my main deck I play on live. I'm playing basically the same list. I took out 1 Iono for 1 switch and I took out 1 Earthen Vessel for an Arctibax. The Arctibax is cool because it helps counter deevolution and makes it easier to set up your 2nd Baxcallibur. Its also a one prize attacker that can hit 80 and kill mimikyus and comfeys.
It doesn’t counter deevolution. The idea of deevolution is get 100 damage on the stage 2 then Deevo and knock out the middle evo. It’s not meant to make sure the evolution doesn’t came back. It’s to get stage down KO’s. Runnjng arctibax does nothing to help this. You’re better off running tool jammer
@@TheWillrocks51 I understand how devolution is being used and in my experience testing it actually has been working. It’s harder for them to spread 90 damage than it is to spread 60 and it’s a nice way to work towards the second Bax while still maintaining tempo and using your Iridas for SER and Vessels. Tool Jammer is an idea but it requires it to be on the active so that doesn’t seem ideal. Also, how would you find it?
@@DJJakeyJake you find it the same way you find DeEvo lol. Every meta deck minus Snorstall has multiple ways to hit 90 and DeEvo easily. You can feel free to keep using it lol. I was just pointing out it does not help counter DeEvo like you said. Tool jammer counters it. DeEvo slows that’s it
the problem is chien pao always need baxcalibur. while other deck can mix and match with any card without any dependencies, chien pao cannot work without bax. so if the opponent get a lot of boss, they will always target bax, or frigi. and if your bax gone, its basically game.
My opinion on why: you can ignore chien pao safely. Chien pao discards all energy off the field with most of its attackers, meaning that if you just target down the bax, theres no viable accelerated attackers to swing with. So you have to set up multiple stage 2's in a deck that is already corrupted by consistency issues. For example: in gardevoir, you just ignore the baby gardy in the active, you have to deal with the 240 damage swing if you target the ex. Even with dialga, you cannot afford to ignore Dialga at risk of nuking your active. The fact that Pao can not attack w/o Baxcalibur really hurts the deck.
Great video Jared, I really like Chien Pao as well and yes it can be a bit bricky at times. Do you think adding a 1-1 Lumineon/Forest Seal Stone would help to get out of a jam? Keep up the good work.
My main issues with the deck are losing to Miraidon (which should be beatable but they always seem to pop off turn 1) and the fragility of baxcalibur. Im trying a 1-1 ice rider line with forest seal stone and 2 melony to use as a high hp efficient attacker. Im also not convinced hands is better than the original cross switcher cologne version bc either way you take 2 prizes but switcher cologne does more to wreck their board state.
It doesn't lose to Miraidon😭 you have ninja into counter catcher line to force them to take 1 prize if they go aggro lol, then you take 3 with catcher hands on squawk
So after playing your list and following more detailed directions, it feels like the only actual autoloss is Snorlax stall bc we run no switching cards and the only gust we play is bundle/counter catcher. Is there any way to play around that or do we just take the L to the match up?
What’s the best way to take on gholdengo. It’s gained a bit of popularity since the Japan event and it stomps me every single time I play. Scizor also hurts making the matchup seem unwinnable.
The Vulpix is best against Charizard. Now that they run Pidgeot you’ll probably just get boss/rope/counter catchered then brought back up to active and knocked out.
i been playing Chein pao since july last year its has good match ups but with iron hands i feel its to much the Canadian build is better and you need to know the match ups
Crazy bro , didn’t know Chien pao was released in the GO set in July last year . I will say Jared isn’t even 1st in the world with it so the video was kinda mid
Honestly the deck just feels bad. If it works you can maybe get a game in, but it bricks so much, it’s so fragile, and what you’re doing isn’t even that powerful to begin with. I wish it was better but short of new cards or some secret tech, it seems like it’s dead.
It certainly wins games and it extremely powerful once it gets rolling. It is a lot to get going though so for that reason it doesn't out class decks currently at the top. I've had fun with it though lol
@@jgrimesey Fair enough. I really like it and want to play it, but when it's online win rate is lower than Lunatone/solrock it's hard to convince myself that it's worth it.
In my experience of solo maining chien pao for 5 months now, the eternal problem is that baxcalibur is REQUIRED to do any meaningful attacking.
Yeah but you just get it out turn two
Yeah it’s a glaring bottleneck
you can kind of mitigate it with a palkia vstar line

The games where I prized both Bax are the ones which make me crei ever tiem
Just feels like Pao has too many games where you just lose bc the deck just could not give you what you needed
It's not an absurd amount because you can play out of a lot of them but it's more than other decks
I play with chien-pao ex too, unfortunately as in Brazil chien-pao is super expensive I play with just two and to compensate for this I also use 2x2 Palkia Vstar.

I'm very hopeful for future sets with this deck. It has a decent base to build off of and hopefully Walking Wake will be a good card for this deck.
I always add copies of poke-gear 3.0, it has saved me many games were the only draw for the turn is pokestop

It's very top heavy and you'll run out of steam to an iono chain most.likely. Does not have much staying power

That's cool , problem is you usually need rare candy Bax turn two anyways. But that might be decent

remember that time people complain Chien Pao OP? yeah good times....
I'm starting to play chien, but I wanted to try it with arceus, maybe I'll be looking for hands in few months

Yeah that's why you always keep a Frigibax for backup. It's not hard to do when you draw a lot with bibarel you just have to manage resources
Still practicing LAIC Iron Hands, but chien pao is a threat to me because somehow my opponents get all the pokemon they need turn 2 💀
Im using 1-1 Palkia VStar Line and Alolan Vulpix VStar for additional attacker. 😊
My opinion on why: you can ignore chien pao safely.

You have bibarels to draw half your deck every turn it's fine. It's only inconsistent getting there
Great video Jared, I really like Chien Pao as well and yes it can be a bit bricky at times. Do you think adding a 1-1 Lumineon/Forest Seal Stone would help to get out of a jam? Keep up the good work.
Thanks! There's no room for Lumin imo, you want double bib

Pretty wild at the end there
I prefer the Canadian build without Hands.
what do you think of a 1-1 line of pidgey/pidgeot
Counter catcher ended chien pao i think
Thoughts on Pao into Portland? Really the only deck Ive liked playing in this format, but the meta feels kinda iffy for it.
I think the meta is fine for it but you need to play pretty perfectly to do well because you brick a lot of games
What’s the best way to take on gholdengo. It’s gained a bit of popularity since the Japan event and it stomps me every single time I play. Scizor also hurts making the matchup seem unwinnable.
Probably just take the L to that lol. Iron hands is probably the best way to combat it
First game: that’s why I use lumineon v. Bad start? Ultra ball, lumineon, irida, vip pass.
And 2 pokegear 3.0 too
Yeah but then you lose all the games you start lumin, and you also can't afford it because they can gust it up and kill it
So you ditched the Iron Hands/Bundle in Portland?
Yeah I just tried no hands, definitely felt weird but cologne won me non zero games, was fun lol
Not running quaquaval ex smh 😒
Let’s gooo
people started relying on that shite poke stop. This card breaks the multiverse and ALWAYS discards Irida and Baxcalibur.
It's a bad card sometimes
Alternative Title: Jared Grimes Coping about Chien Pao still a good deck for 25 mins
I'd call top 128 okay
@@jgrimesey that’s not okay that’s pretty good
But the problem with chien-pao is it just only does one thing
Chein pao is pretty good but it looses to miraidon btw I saw this video was uploaded 32 seconds ago
Nah we beat miraidon
Miraidon is easy
Ok good luck with that 👍
I’ve switched to cheese head
What do you think about running a sneak one one line of alolan vulpix vstar and take out the stops for park
Also, what stadium do you think would be a good replacement for the park? I am not a hug fan of poke stop in chein pao.
you have good zard matchup anyways - sto is the best stadium for this archetype, just need to get used to the bad flips lol
The Vulpix is best against Charizard. Now that they run Pidgeot you’ll probably just get boss/rope/counter catchered then brought back up to active and knocked out.
can you draw more than 3 if you have 3 in deck, doesnt lose the game right?
Yeah Pokemon is unique that way - you only lose if the draw for turn is the one where you have no deck
so you had game without problem, but was perfect 0 cards👌
i been playing Chein pao since july last year its has good match ups but with iron hands i feel its to much the Canadian build is better and you need to know the match ups

@@ottoW101 sorry dude XD been long day at work
Regardless, still gona play it 😂
Loses against Miraidon, loses to garde (Avery/Iono + counter catche + Snipe)
It beats miraidon and is even into gardy. I've been positive into gardy but still think it's even because of what you mentioned
