    Strymon products are next level. I'm still amazed, every time I step on my Big Sky (and I've had Lexicon racks in the past). I'm not saying it's the same thing, but they pack incredible power in a stompbox. Strymon makes inspiration machines. Enjoyed your playing = Tasty.

    You're not just a guitarist, you're a hell of a musician. Wonderful video and maaaaan these jams are crazy good !!! Totally understand the use of such a delay pedal with the HX Stomp (as well as drive pedals in front) to "ease" the DSP in there, that's what makes it so versatile I guess ? Sounds so great on its own and there's definitely enough DSP power to dial some great great tones, but in case you need to ease the DSP the unit is so small and well thought you can easily pair other pedals with it, now I can comprehend all that ahaha ! Crazy Doc

  • @PeterBurton1991
    @PeterBurton1991 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Some pedals are over hyped and some genuinely live up to it - the Timeline is definitely the latter. It’s a total game-changer pedal. Even legends like Michael Landau use it! I’ve had it on board since it came out about 10 years ago, I’ve even tried to boot it off with some more recent releases, and none can (for me at least). It is awesome.

    Great playing as always. Regardless of its age and the fact that Strymon hates updating firmware, it's still got a great-sounding stereo dual delay. Some of the others are good, too, but the thick effect-y ones sound a little treble-heavy and noticeably "that's a Timeline" sometimes, even when it's not in fact a TimeLine at all.

With all the great delays and reverb pedals out there, many players still hang on to their Strymon Timelines and Big Sky.

    Sweet tone & playing @ 6:22. I’m an old school tube amp guy but am really considering modeling ie; HX/Helix, Fractal FM III, etc. I’m skeptical about many “patch” fed instruments. My old studio I used lots of Keyboards for sequencing, etc(I’m not a keyboard player) but the best patches were always on the “expansion” boards. And of course you had to buy them separately. And I like the familiarity of pedals. Scrolling through menus isn’t fun(for me). Have you tried all the top 3 modelers? Just wandering which has the best presets out of the box. I’ve heard the Fractal. I ALSO have no idea! 😂

    Along your lines of thinking, I picked up a Source Audio Collider for the Delay/Reverb after the Stomp to free up DSP. What with the Command Center available now to Stomp users, the midi relationship between the two makes it a no-brainer. Granted, I do use it in the FX loop so I can put it wherever I want in the chain of blocks.

    I had the same late to the orgie experience with the BigSky in November. I had been looking for a new reverb pedal for a while, I went through like 3 different high-end reverb pedals before I decided to pull the trigger on a BigSky. I knew it was a good pedal, I knew it was hyped, I new everybody loved it, but I just didn't properly believe it I guess since it was so old, and I'm probably too much of a hipster to want to go with the most popular choice right away. But, it was THE reverb pedal I had been looking for all along, and it made me ejaculate in a way I guess, so missing the orgie was not that big of a deal, I'm happy now!

To be honest I think the Timeline is a bit overrated and I haven't missed it much at all. How do you rate the Timeline vs the Volante? I made a decision a couple of years ago to really commit to certain choices, and focus on gear that was less "jack of all trades" and more "master of one". As I gravitated towards tape style delays, Volante was an easy relatively easy choice. I have it after Iridium - another pedal that doesn't try to be everything, but does what it does really well. And not a menu in sight. (BTW, I used a DL4 for years - it broke before I felt the need to replace it otherwise).

    • @johnnathancordy
      @johnnathancordy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So - I had the Volante too - BUT I never really felt about it like I do about this. It's all down to taste of course, but these ICE delays, and the hold for swell and stuff like that is exactly the kind of thing that I dig in a pedal? Also the way this looper works suits me a lot better than the Volante looper.
      Not that there's anything wrong at all with the Volante of course!

    • @johnnathancordy
      @johnnathancordy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Full Helix is still maybe 3 times the size of the Stomp/TimeLine combo? But of course you'd have lots of potential with a full Helix.

    Yep. I would say it's still king.
    I have a Source Audio Nemesis I got on special (Prymaxe deal! Love those guys) and while I certainly like it, there's no analog dry-thru. This is a problem for wet/dry (phwooar!), but Timeline is very pricey in Australia, even on the used market. I like the SA, it does pretty much everything I need in a delay, but that lack of a dry-thru path is a real bugger (phwooar, eh!). Apparently it can be solved with a parallel mixer (no rudeness or innuendo in that one).

    Maybe what you need is an HX Effects to go with your HX Stomp, to spread the DSP load out but still live in HX world as far as programming. I play more acoustic than electric and recently got an HX Effects, with the idea that I could use it with my acoustics (using the IR block for acoustic guitar IRs to process suboptimal pickup signals), and then pair it with an HX Stomp eventually (to replace an Eleven Rack, and let me interoperate with HX Native on my computer). I don't have a Stomp yet, but that's my tentative plan. Your Stomp work has definitely been an influence on this plan. -Tom

That, combined with the "Bypass Assign" feature makes carrying out multiple changes of numerous parameters fairly simple. It's crazy what can be done.
