Its a song to spread the awareness of ebola and other illnesses like ebola. I wish everyone would stop complaining and loosing sight of the actual message.
People have been very aware of Ebola long before this was reworked. This is so celebrities can feel good about themselves without actually having to do anything, which is why I applaud Adele for what she did. Geldof himself has said "It really doesn’t matter if you don’t like this song, what you have to do is buy this thing”. Well, no, in that case we'll just donate to Oxfam or the Red Cross Ebola Crisis Appeal if the tepid, bland song makes no difference.
***** Oh, so it should have been released at Christmas, and in the mean time hundreds more die! it has nothing to do with Simon Cowell or X Factor! I really don't know where you pulled that argument from!? and its not "false sentiment" when people are dying!! It will be interesting to know if you have the same views if or when Ebola gets to your part of the world!
***** Exactly, if they ACTUALLY cared (and when I say 'they', I mean the celebrities and the publishers) then they'd have done something when it was in the news in March. Again, why don't the celebrities just donate money than bothering us with a bland reworking of the original song? Why not do what Adele did and just donate privately? No, they want to show us that they're doing something about it, they want people to care that they care, it's ridiculous.
We are incredibly proud to part of Band Aid 30 which is out today with all proceeds going to the fight against ebola. We had a great day recording the track and filming the video on Saturday. Great to meet so many amazing artists and be part of something that will make a genuine difference in West Africa. Buy here: po.st/DoTheyKnow
Why do people these days try to turn everything into negativity... Get yourself together. This was to raise awareness and help, sure they might be rich but what the fuck has that have to do with this? You don't know these people so stop acting like you do. Instead raise awareness yourself and do something rather than bashing someone on TH-cam... Smh
Seriously? Did they even think about some of these lyrics? And the woman at the begining? Show some fucking respect, she's dying/dead she didn't need that broadcasted around the world
***** they broadcasted a barely clothed woman who is obviously dying. They didnt need to show that in order to say how deadly something is. We already know its extremely deadly.
2 millions hits? Its because they want to know what other people think? What if little kids read these comments, Their not "broadcasting" anything, she died? They want to spread how DEADLEY it is
as much as i enjoyed this, sorry but there's a shitload lack of production,i didn't feel the beat too much, and barely hear any instruments. i fucking love one direction, ed,rita, etc, but this is missing a lot of today's biggest name For saying the least, McFly,Lorde. And last but not least If they include youtubers, they needed some PewDiePie He got the talent and the recognition, he would bring so much into the cause And why not Chester See, Roomie, some strings from Lindsey Sterling, the voices from PTX, Kurt Schneider, and even that soft and mellow voice from Bart Baker. Really, this was really rushed and needs to be done againl. PD: If i had the money, i'm sure i'll donate.
The thing is that Lorde is from New Zealand and not the UK. And this song 'only' represents the UK. In Germany we have a german version with german artists. Maybe the USA, Australia and New zealand produce a song aswell now or in the future.
@Johnny Eyeball it wasn't world hunger. It was the Ebola outbreak in 2014. That's what the very beginning was about, the people taking the sick woman out of the hut.
I'm actually ashamed of some people in the world, why is there so much negativity on something that is just trying to raise money for people that are suffering so much. Just seriously think about what your commenting because some of it is disgusting. Just be thankful that some people are trying to make the world a better place.
Err how about each of the celebrities in this video donojate 1 million each and it would be a lot of money, they live in mansions and they are asking us to donate, so why don't they?
You have no idea how much they donate to charity! And it's non of your business anyway, they have come up with a way to spread a message and to try and get the public involved in a festive way. Even if you think it could be done better at least they have all come together to do something
How many Millions have been made over the past 30 years on the back of this tune ?, every frigging African should have his own private swimming pool now and a lovely Condo!
***** why are you still insisting that this is a bad thing. If it's spreading a message and raising money than we should respect it. JESUS what is wrong with you people
You know the problem with Band Aid? We have been sending Africa money since the first Band Aid and Live Aid and yet nothing has changed! Africa still has the same problems that it had 30 years ago, so where has all the money that has been raised gone? Sorry I would rather give to a local charity that helps people in my own country than to give again to Africa
I don't think you realise how much money it would take to get rid of poverty in Africa... Besides this is a band aid to help ebola, which has only become massive problem recently. Do me a favour and stop posting ignorant comments.
it takes time. they have so many things wrong that no one can help them all at once. if you think about it, we're ONE of the reasons why they're like this (KIND OF!) people here aren't experiencing things that are as bad as the people in africa are going through.
Sometimes I think it's the media make it seem worse than it is, they say this is improving, that's getting better, but it still ends in a video of dying, starving children and adults. Who need every penny you donate to help. What I don't understand is why half the world is above poverty living a normal healthy lifestyle while the other half are struggling to stay alive. If it's money they need, we have machines that make the bloody stuff, obviously it'll create an unbalanced economy, but who's to say it's balanced at the moment?
Surely if that's true, should you not be even more inclined to help? If the people to whom this money is given barely cope with our help, imagine their lives without it...
This year I will be thinking of the poor children in east Ukraine, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Gaza, Iraq, Yemen etc. Lets do something special this year and tell america NO MORE!
U2 Has been an Icon for 40 years now, it’s amazing how kind Bono is and doing so many kind things for the world. This, One, (RED), and so many more. He is the ONLY member of this song to also do it in ‘84. He is a LEGEND. ❤️
i'm so dissapointed in the comments. I dont think people realise this is a historical event, it isnt just another Christmas song. I don't even know whats gotten into society if they've taken to bring hate on a song which is in aid of Ebola. At times it really makes me ashamed to be apart of this generation of youth that are questioning if someone wants to stand next to someone or why someone js there. Like seriously? Just give over. Do you really think Bob Geldoff would randomly choose whos in the song? I'm disgusted that this society is even questioning such a legends reasoning and talents. So what if youtubers are there, you obviously have no clue how technology is nowadays, the sales because of them featured in the song js going to raise so much for charity. One word, ashamed.
exactly, theyre sitting at home ln their expensive laptops with fast wifi with a whole career and family ahead of them, yet they're hating on such an amazing fundraiser. It shows alot when this has to come out the mouth of a 15 year old girl, I'm so done with society
Same. I wish people were more aware and considerate. People will only start changing when it effects themselves or when the problem becomes way too big to handle..
hahaha it is just another christmas song; telling poor people to stump the bill while Apple, Amazon, Google, etc. are at the bank, paying zero tax. Apple could end poverty alone, forever.
I agree. Its a shame that people are finding fault with a song that was purely done for charity. It shouldn't matter who is singing in it. All that is important is the money that will be raised. they could have every musician in the business performing and people still wouldn't be happy. Get over it, what if it was you that was affected??
The purpose of this song has been completely missed by a number of people here. A lot of people are slating the artists, the quality of the video, and the quality of the song. But, it shouldn't really matter whether you are a fan of the artists that have participated. Or how 'good' the music is. Personally, I don't particularly like the song, I don't think it holds much merit against previous Band Aid versions. However, that is not the point of any of it. Ebola is a horrific disease that is causing so many innocent people to die painful, undignified deaths, which no one should be made to suffer. These people have little hope of survival, and they have no way of aiding themselves. They are reliant on us, as fortunate westerners, to have the heart to give, even a small amount of money, to provide them with some chance of survival. A lot of people are saying giving money won't cure them, but it could aid the research in finding a cure. And if it didn't, it could provide African families with preventative measures, and could provide nurses with the required equipment to insure their own health. And therefore prevent the spread. As for the people that are asking why the artists don't open their own pockets and donate some of their wealth to charity, how do you know they aren't? It's possible that they have all given money already. Either way, attempting a mass fund raising, such as this, is a much more effective method of collecting money, than having a few individuals do it. According to the BBC, Bob Geldof said, "Within four or five minutes we had a million quid." That suggests his methods have worked so far. Furthermore, By using artists such as One Direction, a massive fan base will feel inclined to donate some money to the charity, which is probably quite a significant factor in the amount of money they have raised so far. So people should stop complaining about the content of the product, because that is irrelevant. The download only costs 99p. That isn't going to leave you homeless. That isn't going to break your bank. That isn't going to make you suffer. Unlike all they poor people afflicted with a truly terrible disease. It doesn't take much to give money, and, despite what a lot of people on here are saying, it will benefit them. This is not some ploy to raise awareness for the artists, or to earn money for them, it is an effort to raise money of a very relevant cause. If you are truly indifferent to the idea of buying the song, there are other methods of donating to help stop the spread of Ebola: donate.oxfam.org.uk/emergency/ebola?pscid=ps_ggl_Emergencies_Ebola_Very_Generic&gclid=CM3e-J3IgsICFesBwwodGDQAPw www.redcross.org.uk/Donate-Now/Make-a-single-donation/Ebola-Outbreak-Appeal/Ebola-Outbreak-Appeal-maxi?.8U4BkeDrTmyohRo8c7je9A.1&A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.uk%2F Tl:dr- This song is quite bad, but Ebola is worse. So stop being a dick, and open your purse.
What has wound me up the most is the inclusion of youtubers who dont even fucking sing, are you kidding me? Atleast use the ones who actually have talent rather than Zoella and Alfie etc who do nothing other than acting innocent; ridiculous is not even the word.
TheManWhoWaited they are NOT professional singers. i love alfie, zoe and joe, but i don't think it was appropriate for them to be in this video.... both joe and zoe can sing relatively well for your average person, but alfie cannot sing. don't get me wrong, i really like all of them - but they are definitely not professionals and i think they were very much out of place.
Lets do Band Aid again! Erm why don't you do another campaign where you just request the multinational corps just pay their effing tax bill. Maybe 'the people' might have some spare cash to give then. I want to see Bono tell Apple to stop avoiding tax, instead of dumping his album on everyones itunes account.
I don't see why the youtubers were there when they are the only people who are not actual singers, I get that they all have millions of followers and subscribers who could purchase the single but so do the likes of one direction, I just find it a bit odd that they are there thats all, nevertheless its a great song and I hope it raises lots of money for a great cause.
You took the words out of my mouth! One Direction have generally the same audience as the TH-camrs and it is much wider, so their involvement was a bit unnecessary I think, especially when they're not professional singers.
do you even know how many sales youtube fans bring in? Alfies book etc when straight to number 1 with 8,000 showing up to his first book signing, the fandom bring jn SO many sales meaning if theyre featured in the song we're all going to buy it which makes a load of money for Ebola! Hence why One Direction are also there, their fans go crazy and will buy the song raising alot lf mkmey for Ebola. Towards the fact they aren't singers, this is therefore why they didn't sing their only line and simply participated in the chorus, just featuring in the song raises a hell of a lot more money. Cheer up and get some christmas spirit, be happy for them and thankful of all the money this is going to raise! This is a historical event, don't hate on it.
Also just to clarify, the majority of the fandom aren't even directioners and the audience age range of youtubers varies alot more, if you do your reasearch :)
I think it's because they will bring in a lot of online publicity which is good so more people buy the single, thus bringing in more money for the cause :)
Personally I think this song is good. You don't have to agree. That's just my opinion. I think this video/song is good to help raise money and awareness of the horrible disease. You can see how awful it is just from the first few seconds of the video. There are a lot of people complaining here about the video and Bob said it doesn't matter if you don't like the song, what is important is that you give only 99p to help stop this disgusting disease. It seems like a lot of people have got plenty of time to sit down and write paragraph after paragraph about why this song is silly etc. It makes me think, what have you done to help? You've all got enough to say about the artists "not helping" (they did this for free), but what have you done? There seems to be a lot of hypocrites here. Over and out.
VocaloidLiveConcert faked are you dumb! Go to west Africa and see how it feels. The side effects of Ebola are putrid and some of the conditions their are unsustainable. I understand the people who write the scripts for the news can be hypochondriacs but this is serious and it is exceptionally important that you don't say such horrific things about such a sensitive topic. Sorry if I seemed a bit aggressive
VocaloidLiveConcert I rather hope it has been faked rather than be a real person. It's one of those situations were a reenactment of the real event is far better.
I think it's so cool that Zoe Joe and Alfie were there even though they aren't singers or mayor celebrities. #TeamInternet going strong! Btw why the hell wasn't Adele there?
its crap. why dont all of you artists perhaps donate 10% of your annual income,to the agencies and volunteers who are out in africa frighting the ebola ,instead of boosting the ego,s of bob geldof and bono,,,. i do ,like most people. prefer the original, as marilyn (the pop star of the 80,s) who was on the original, said, most of the artists on here are mostly spawned from xfactor and britains got crap. harldy any of the artists on here have actualy dont anything to get where they are..
BURNTD3MON Really? I think we should set up a challenge. I'll donate my average weeks wage if everybody singing in that damn video donates one of theirs. How's that?
As Adele said herself if they paid their taxes and stopped taking private jets everywhere then it would be grand. The fact that they could only get VERY recent artists says a lot. In 20 years time very few will be known but if you go watch 1984 version it's full of true classic artists. This is a demeaning heap of shit and I don't think west Africa wants your patronising pity.
Funny how people jump in with hate.. when all anyone who has taken part or donated have done is help people why is they hate on something so helpful and savings life's and pain...that's the reason why the world is a shit place to live in ...most people are . selfish. greedy . Ignorant and careless ..look at bob not so long ago he had to deal with loosing his daughter and he still found the time and strengh to do this video.. if he hadn't have organised these people with this song what would be done ? One person made a difference help or shut your mouth with negative opinions
Read what Africans think of the single and get back to me. www.aljazeera.com/news/africa/2014/11/bob-geldof-ebola-africa-band-aid-bono-one-direction-famin-20141113833733496.html
...I think they had kind intentions and I think some people are taking it way too far. Don't celebrate Christmas and find it offensive? Don't fucking listen to the song, it says it right there in the title, CHRISTMAS. Think the lyrics are "condescending"? Guess what, not their fucking song. I think people are just finding a reason to hate on celebrities, I truly believe that the people in this video had good intentions and actually wanted to help raise money. Seriously, some of you need to take your heads out of your asses and see that not everything people do is to be "fake", some people actually want to fucking help. If you're so perfect, why aren't you in Africa right now helping them instead of complaining about what these guys are doing.
Lovely version of an unforgetable song and a worthy cause to aid. The 1984 version is the one I grew up with and 38 years later, it is still the most powerful anthem I have ever heard. Geldorf and Bono make the world a better place.
to attract more audience so more people will want to watch the video so they can earn more money for a good cause ffs when will you people get some common sense?!
1984 "Do they know it's Christmas" can't be duplicated. It was a different time and came about organically. Band Aid 30, like most things today seems contrived and people are just going through the motions. I hope I don't sound jaded, just how I see it.
***** You're kidding, right?! Rita Ora oversung her part and it sounded terrible - she was trying too hard. Both her and Ellie Goulding were massively out of place on this record.
This is to fight a disease that is spreading and killing thousands of people around the world. Instead of being rude and saying certain people shouldn't be there, just be grateful that they actually care. This is for a good cause!
I agree! This is as worthy a cause as anything happening right now and these singers' contribution is something only they can do. Instead of cynically carping, how about learning the facts about this serious, and potentially global, public health problem and buy this song and/or donate to the relevant charity while you're at it.
rg0057 I highly doubt that. Is it that hard to believe that celebrities can be genuinely nice people who want to use their fame to make the world a better place?
Junior Yakuza May I add: mic.com/articles/103788/one-hilarious-video-perfectly-sums-up-a-big-problem-with-western-humanitarianism for a little more humorous approach to the subject :)
If they really cared about the virus and the people dying, they would have come together and all donated money to the cause rather than coming together and singing a song for more money for themselves. It's not like they can't afford it.
I agree with you but I think you need to put these following points in consideration- 1 they may have already donated money for this charity 2 by creating this song it does raise awareness as people will know the reason for creating this song and why they should donate money to help treat Ebola. Personally I don't like this song at all and I believe they could've chosen a better song or created a brand new one but this still does bring awareness to this Ebola situation.
The singers don't get anything from the project, every single penny goes to the charity it was a non-profit project, did you read the credits at the end? Not trying to be rude or anithyng
Actually I think it's a positive thing because people are opening up a lot of discussion. It's always important to question, share opinion and be open to other opinions. OK so TH-cam is the worst place in the world to do it, but there is some interesting and valid points in some of the comments. I, personally, think the song is terrible and the idea of charity singles is old and tired. Most of them are generally poorly written and composed. One the positive side: yes it is working and yes it is making money, but so many people, including myself highly question is this the best way forward rather than blindly buying it to pat myself on the back. This article also makes a good point: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/ebola/11236278/Why-Adele-was-right-to-ignore-Bob-Geldof-and-Band-Aid.html
I would of donated before but because BradTheLadLong is in this video when he is an utter weirdo makes me completely rebel against the idea. He is the worst TH-camr I've ever had the pain of discovering. He can't sing a note in tune either. The hell?
I live in Africa, and a kiss of love doesn't kill you hear, neither does every tear mean death, This song is a colonial white man's view of the continent. A continent helpless without the white man. Its misinformed, Im with FuseODGVEVO on this one. TINA
You are right! People don't get why this is so wrong. It is so ignorant and downgrading. I hope in Africa some day they're laughing about this stupid western view of the problems in Africa and Ebola crisis, while keeping up the good work done by the real people and Africans themselves, I'm certainly not gonna respect this singers for doing something good. Jeez can't people see we're past the times we can pretend the whole continent is like this, of course we got to help the lesser fortunate but this whole video and lyrics is just wrong. It actually reminds me of people in colonial times who thought they had to educate native people because they weren't in the same fase of evolution, they also thought they were doing some good-_- sorry lol just felt the need to react
I'm begging every single one of you please. Stop getting lost in your own opinions. Please for just this once, for 4 minutes and 50 seconds put behind your negative comments, absolutely you have every right to have them, and many of you make good points, but can any of you realise for just a brief moment that ultimately, this song is here not for you to judge? Not for you to criticise, no matter how much you hate the people featured. Not for you to delve into every alternative motive for the re-release of the song, nor for you to listen to it for free on repeat. This song was released for one sole reason, to give us, the everyday people, a chance to give our donation to stop is horrific disease. Who cares who is in it? Who cares what the hell they're doing? It's available to buy on iTunes, why on earth are you wasting your time commenting such negativity when it could have been spent in an attempt to stop this disease. To protect yourselves, your family, your country, your planet. Yes there are a lot of things wrong with the world, but we have been given the opportunity to fund an operation to end the spread, to end the masses of deaths because of one disease. We have the power to end the suffering. I suggest you use it.
Reading all these comments genuinely makes me lose faith in all humanity. If you just fucking got your heads out of your holes and put aside your fucking bitter, shallow and petty hatred towards celebs we'd have hundreds, so shallow for you to blame the celebs themselves do you not realise it's not about them it's about us giving. But you'd rather give every excuse there is under the sun not to. What a world we live in eh? Upset isn't even the word

Dear everyone, get over yourselves. It's a song with a message, a song where you if you buy it, it will help save lives. It doesn't matter who's in it, it doesn't matter if it's not as good as the first one. I'm sure everyone in this video has donated and I'm 100% sure they never got paid for this. Buy the song, save lives, that's why it's there, you don't have to like it, heck you don't even have to listen to it, but you can go to bed at night, knowing you have done your bit to help OUR RACE that are suffering. This song wasn't made for your opinions, it was made for charity to save lives.
+CONVERSE CONVERSATION he is in it if you look near the end he is next to Joe sugg who is behind of Zoe who is next to ed sheeran also if you look on Joe suggs instagram he has a picture so even if that is a fake account he was in the chorus ❤💨
it's to buy diamonds mined by slaves in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, you know the 3 that can't control the situation yet? Are they protecting the diamonds as well? I wonder
This "Tune" has passed it's sell by date, people are tired of charities with their hands out year after year, maybe it is time for the governments who are waging billion dollar wars to simply STOP, and start spending that money on the people who really need help on this planet. It is not a case of lacking compassion but more a case of, Maybe as a species we should get our priorities right.
So you;re saying you'd rather have money taken from you and used well, rather than giving it voluntarily? How about governments cut taxes when they cut spending on war, then we can give more!
I would rather the money being fleeced from us under the crime of income Tax was put to better use than War and munitions, and lining the pockets of the corrupt officials.
You don't understand why they're there? Each of them have at least 1 million subscribers! Which means more money! That's the whole point for everyone in this video.....get the best known celebrities so they can raise more money! Afterall that's why this song is released so much! Money money money!
I really liked it but I see no reason for Zoe, Alfie and Joe being there. I get that they have lots of subscribers (Me being one of them!) but they aren't singers. It just doesn't make sense to me. I think it would have been much better had they got youtubers known for singing/musical videos. I don't know, that's just my opinion.
The whole purpose is to DONATE. They have a following that might be able to donate. They're just trying to appeal to more audiences. Who cares if they can sing or not. It's all for a good cause.
Samantha Yeah i get that :) And reading some of the other comments i understand that some of the people wouldn't have watched the video if it hadn't have been for Zoe, Alfie and Joe. I just thought it was a shame some of the musical youtubres didn't get a chance that was all (Only because the whole idea behind band aid was that it was all singers etc raising money). I still think it is an amazing opportunity for them and glad that youtubers are able to do amazing things like this :)
Lol. I thought the exact same thing. Some of them looked like they wanted to be somewhere else. Seal was one of the few who sang with any passion. Still think the 1984 version is better. No comparison.
Abbie Britcher She hasn't helped raise any money though, she didn't vlog about it and I haven't ever heard her mention BandAid 30 before. Seeing this video was literally the first thing I heard about it, if she was using her fanbase to help raise awareness then I'd get it but she hasn't!
I would of put all artists on the line up who actually make music to help people, artists who care. Half these people on that line up would of donated 1000 pounds max to this cause (some not even that I am sure) when they are all making millions. Some of the people on here are fake and just want to say they have been on Band Aid, they don't have any real passion behind the cause. I would of love to of seen between them it saying they all put together like 250,000 or 500,000 pounds. If every millionaire on the planet donated 5 to 10 thousand pounds it would be sorted, but I get the feeling half of them don't even donate at all, so they find a smart way to get us to do it.
theyarecomingforyou Rita Ora was one of the first to record her part so she probably wasn't going off much and didn't have much idea of how the rest of the singers would perform the song. I thought she sounded great through
Should have just donated £1m each to the cause (they can more than afford it). Would have saved us all the pain of yet another self righteous pull on the heart strings. Having been to most of west Africa they are not as helpless as Sir Geldof would have you believe. Time to deal with the issues at home before we help others.....
Why don't these millionaires practice what they preach and giver THEIR money away instead of asking people who actually work for a living or who are in poverty for theirs?
It takes a lot of money to sort huge scale problems out, everyone doing a little bit which they can, is going to help, I can't give any money because my family can't afford that but it doesn't mean I can't share and like the video so others who can, will see it. They're not asking for money, it's an exchange, you get the song for the money and the money you give goes to charity. Many people who are wealthy do give a lot of money to charity, but are humble and don't plaster it on the front pages of the newspapers, however you are right; a few people who have that kind of money don't give to charity, but it's their choice. Just decide whether you want to/can give some money or buy the song, and leave it at that
I'm getting old. In a few years we'll be celebrating the 40th anniversary! Hope to hear another version. Merry Christmas everybody. Let's all live out the goodness displayed in this song and treat everybody with kindness and love.
Honestly quite pissed off that zoella and co were put into this video. They are not singers so why are they in this video? Don't support her or any of the others anymore tbh
Why not? They were invited and there's nothing you can do to change that. And anyway Alfie is perfect. But this video is to raise money, not to have people putting sly comments about who should and who shouldn't be on this, because either way, I don't see you in this video, so you have no control over it.
The reason they were asked is because they have millions of viewers in which they can persuade to donate money to such an amazing cause! There were other people there that weren't singers either? That doesn't mean they can't be involved they were asked by band aid.. I'm not a known singer but if I was asked id be the happiest person ever to be part of something that helps millions across the world.
Chris Martin's solo is absolutely priceless! i love him so much!! anyways, i really hope this song will really make a difference in helping with Ebola in Africa...
Vicky Hill Please dont say that.. As Amy said he is the best person I know. In fact all band members of Coldplay are so nice and humble..If u dont believe me, watch any of their interviews...
Bless SIR Bob Geldof for his initial move to help the people of Africa in 1984....it started a movement....worldwide....later came WE ARE THE WORLD and other efforts...but, remember this...initially in 1971 there was THE CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH....
Nothing like the 1983, what a plethora of 80s megastars , Phil Collins, Bono, Duran Duran, Culture Club, Spandau Ballet, Bananarama, Wham!, Merry Xmas 4 everyone
Right now in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leon, there are people dying of Ebola. In order to raise money to prevent further suffering from the disease, Sir Bob Geldof has gathered an ensemble of iconic British artists to remake the 1984 classic 'Do They Know It's Christmas'. The sale of the song has already raised more than £1,000,000 to tackle Ebola. If Band Aid had not released this single, then the money would not have been raised; the same money that will hopefully contribute to the end of the suffering of current and potential Ebola victims worldwide. Who cares if the song is not your taste? Who cares if you don't want to pay 99p because you think the celebrity artists (who contribute vast amounts of their wealth to charity) should be doing it instead of you? Evidently a lot of others do enjoy the song and feel that spending 99p from their own pockets to tackle Ebola is a worthy cause, so please take your negative energy away. The human compassion of Band Aid within an industry renowned for superficiality and corruption comes as a reminder that there is good in everything.
I will definitely buy this song about 10 times, GREAT CAUSE ! But they could of had some better vocalists. Honestly I dunno what the hell Olly Murs was even doing there, I can understand why One Direction would be there, Rita shouldn't of been there and Sam Smith should of had a stronger part. Does anyone agree ? Jessie J, Elton John and James Morrison should of all been there. James Arthur also, he is very new but I feel like he will be a legend so he should of been on it, not many people have seen him for the artist he is yet or look into him enough to know the crack, so I can understand that
I think it was just who was available or accessible at the time, since it was done so quickly. A lot of people you mentioned are pretty busy people right now (but then I suppose the ones involved in this are too lmao)
Rita shouldn't HAVE been there, not - of been there. Sam Smith should HAVE had a stronger part, not, should of. SHOULD HAVE not SHOULD OF! COULD HAVE not COULD OF! Go and learn some English!
What the fuck, millions and billions of people have been donating money to Africa for years, still they are in need of help? This questions me a lot, and the celebrities in this song will be getting paid well enough money for this - which thy will be spending on crap they don't need, why don't THEY donate too? And I never donate because we all know 99% of charities are for themselves, like this. Donating for years to 'Africa' when you're actually giving rich ppl more money
It's unfortunate that a lot of aid finds it way into the hands of unscrupulous governments and individuals, but we should never give up on Africa because of that. We should never give up hope for a better, healthier and safer Africa.
They are raising money for Ebola which is spreading, and they don't have enough money to buy vaccine for the people who have Ebola. Ugh people like you always bug me
It’s hard to top a masterpiece. This version is alright, but doesn’t have the energy, power and emotion of the original. It’s for a great cause so buy it none the less.
I know it's a good cause and I respect that, but why did One Direction have to be involved? They aren't music! Couldn't they have gotten George Michael again or ELO?
There is absolutely nothing wrong with One Direction? Their music is the same type as Ed Sheeran, Elle Goulding and quite a few others in here, do you want them gone as well? Have you even listened to any of their songs after What Makes You Beautiful? They've gotten so much better, they've changed their sounds so much; they're not a bubblegum pop band anymore.
You might think that they should go, but your opinion doesn't matter because there are millions upon millions of one direction fans who have supported them since day one. And if they 'aren't music' then how have they got millions of fans worldwide? people obviously like their music otherwise they wouldn't have got this far in the music industry!
No offense but original still gives me goosebumps this not really.
I second that...this one (and the 2004 one as well) just isn't "doing it" for me..

Its a song to spread the awareness of ebola and other illnesses like ebola. I wish everyone would stop complaining and loosing sight of the actual message.
You are absolutely right! How would all of the haters feel if they were dieing of ebola?
People have been very aware of Ebola long before this was reworked. This is so celebrities can feel good about themselves without actually having to do anything, which is why I applaud Adele for what she did. Geldof himself has said "It really doesn’t matter if you don’t like this song, what you have to do is buy this thing”. Well, no, in that case we'll just donate to Oxfam or the Red Cross Ebola Crisis Appeal if the tepid, bland song makes no difference.
*****
Oh, so it should have been released at Christmas, and in the mean time hundreds more die! it has nothing to do with Simon Cowell or X Factor!
I really don't know where you pulled that argument from!? and its not "false sentiment" when people are dying!!
It will be interesting to know if you have the same views if or when Ebola gets to your part of the world!
Nice song

Instead raise awareness yourself and do something rather than bashing someone on TH-cam... Smh

Wake up mate!. These people couldn't give a flying fuck about ebola victims, they just want to be SEEN to be acting like hero's
Well said that man!! Kudos to you!!!
ebola not the most pressing issue out there in Africa just the main one the now. Ebola is maybe number 7 on the list.
Sorry, but it lacks the power and conviction of the original version.
I totally agree!!!!!
This one's more poppy than the original. My dad always plays the original at Christmas
yup!!!!! Original is SOOOOOOO much better!!!!! still "ok" kinda like a high school band rendition this one......
Listening to this in September because it's always a good time for Christmas music

I prefer the original. Sang with so much more passion.
I totally agree. The majority of this generation is fueled by money. This one didn’t have the purity of the original.
It's on YT, and have some cheese with your whine! Merry Christmas!
It's a sign if the times. They have shallow minds these days.
Same here even though the second seemed good aswel. But you can't beat the original 84 song. Mind you the 04 song was shit aswel.
It's ironic all the new versions are missing the best part of the orginal: SO TONIGHT THANK GOD IS THEM INSTED OF YOU.
Seriously? Did they even think about some of these lyrics? And the woman at the begining? Show some fucking respect, she's dying/dead she didn't need that broadcasted around the world
I love this song. I remember when it was first released, and I cried several times listening to it!
They're only trying to broadcast the effects of Ebola. Nothing different from the adverts of starving people...
***** they broadcasted a barely clothed woman who is obviously dying. They didnt need to show that in order to say how deadly something is. We already know its extremely deadly.
They didn't write the lyrics. The song is years old.

The thing is that Lorde is from New Zealand and not the UK. And this song 'only' represents the UK. In Germany we have a german version with german artists. Maybe the USA, Australia and New zealand produce a song aswell now or in the future.

It looked like a lot of them didn’t want to be there
@Johnny Eyeball it wasn't world hunger. It was the Ebola outbreak in 2014. That's what the very beginning was about, the people taking the sick woman out of the hut.

What a talent ! all those singers and she owns the whole song with a few words
And now that she’s passed, even more poignant.

This Doesn't Have The Punch Over The Original.
It’s because Bob Geldof was passionate about it, he made everyone leave their ego at the door.
Do me a favour and stop posting ignorant comments.
it takes time. they have so many things wrong that no one can help them all at once.
if you think about it, we're ONE of the reasons why they're like this (KIND OF!)
people here aren't experiencing things that are as bad as the people in africa are going through.
Jaffa T,
Please don't loose faith with Africa, past help did work but be patient the child will one walk. Thanks.

i'm so dissapointed in the comments.
So true. They don't know what it's like to live in these situations until they have actually experienced it. So selfish.
exactly, theyre sitting at home ln their expensive laptops with fast wifi with a whole career and family ahead of them, yet they're hating on such an amazing fundraiser.
If you are truly indifferent to the idea of buying the song, there are other methods of donating to help stop the spread of Ebola:

What has wound me up the most is the inclusion of youtubers who dont even fucking sing, are you kidding me? Atleast use the ones who actually have talent rather than Zoella and Alfie etc who do nothing other than acting innocent; ridiculous is not even the word.
They are also professional singers
I wondered who those people were
Joe was there and he can sing and so can Alfie im not to sure on Zoe haven't heard her sing
TheManWhoWaited Define 'Professional singers'
I think it's to get the song to appeal to as wider range of people as possible, which will raise more money. 😊
do you even know how many sales youtube fans bring in?
Great what their doing but awful.
Bono I swear was only one who has passion
I agree

This is a demeaning heap of shit and I don't think west Africa wants your patronising pity.

luckily u aren't a singer otherwise u scare the shit out of me
riricky815 did we just become best friends?
Dean Mohan Top banter.
This is to fight a disease that is spreading and killing thousands of people around the world. Instead of being rude and saying certain people shouldn't be there, just be grateful that they actually care. This is for a good cause!
www.aljazeera.com/news/africa/2014/11/bob-geldof-ebola-africa-band-aid-bono-one-direction-famin-20141113833733496.html
No, this is for name recognition.
Junior Yakuza May I add: mic.com/articles/103788/one-hilarious-video-perfectly-sums-up-a-big-problem-with-western-humanitarianism for a little more humorous approach to the subject :)
oh my lawd roger taylor is there blessss himmm
Nicole Savill He and Queen were probably the most notable absentees from the original.
Ed Sheeran! What are you doing?! Step away from this bunch of asshats, you're better than them.
Personally I don't like this song at all and I believe they could've chosen a better song or created a brand new one but this still does bring awareness to this Ebola situation.
khadijak89 I agree.
Well they did more than other people
They have made a video that 1 million people have seen and that a really good way to help a cause
Wait... I thought all the money went to charity?
The singers don't get anything from the project, every single penny goes to the charity it was a non-profit project, did you read the credits at the end? Not trying to be rude or anithyng
Not one positive comment in this entire section. The world truly has gone to shit.
Absolutely man...
1:52 Yay, Bono Bonito! ♡
I like this version but i prefer the original. ♥️
I would of donated before but because BradTheLadLong is in this video when he is an utter weirdo makes me completely rebel against the idea. He is the worst TH-camr I've ever had the pain of discovering. He can't sing a note in tune either. The hell?
agreee 100% ... bradtheladlong is worse than justin beiber
THIS THIS THIS. I HATE HIM
They would of made millions more if Brad wasn't in it x
Me too - he adds nothing to this.
I love Ellie Goulding and Rita Ora's parts
+Tv fan Me 2 Happy XMAS
Sad to have Sinead gone. A true Irish Angel of soulful notes.
coldplay already has autotune in his regular voice

#Prayforparis🇫🇷
Lots of fun x
Love you 💘💘
PointlessBlog blog was you in it alfie?
It's a fake look on his channel he only has 7 subs😌
+CONVERSE CONVERSATION he is in it if you look near the end he is next to Joe sugg who is behind of Zoe who is next to ed sheeran also if you look on Joe suggs instagram he has a picture so even if that is a fake account he was in the chorus ❤💨
OMG I'm soooo proud of you STILL TO THIS DAY!! (yes I am listening to Christmas songs, in Perth Scotland on the 4th of november😂) 😂💙💙💙😂
Pray for West Africa and Merry Christmas everyone!
I really am sick and tied of rich people tell poor people they want their money.
I agree. I felt a bit sick watching this.
They wouldn't be rich people withhout us buying there music
it's to buy diamonds mined by slaves in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, you know the 3 that can't control the situation yet? Are they protecting the diamonds as well? I wonder
This "Tune" has passed it's sell by date, people are tired of charities with their hands out year after year, maybe it is time for the governments who are waging billion dollar wars to simply STOP, and start spending that money on the people who really need help on this planet. It is not a case of lacking compassion but more a case of, Maybe as a species we should get our priorities right.
Everybody's waking up (if you'll allow me that cliche), it's a pleasure.
You sir are correct.
You all won't be saying that when ebola comes to the UK
The original is one of my favorite songs, I still have the 45 of it I bought when I was 11. This was painful to listen to and made my 80’s heart hurt.
I love this song. Every artist in this song sings different.
I personally think that Ellie Gouldings solo is misplaced and just doesn't fit. Soz not soz.
I don't
Why are Zoella, Joe Sugg and Alfie even there? :/
to gain publicity from a different worldwide audience to raise money for dyeing people
Fair enough, I just don't see their contribution to the music side of things
***** I understand that, but I believe their contribution is fundamentally to get the people who watch their videos worldwide to get involved.
Zoe has a nice singing voice though.
They have a huge following, that's just it. It's all about making as many people hear about it as possible.
The whole purpose is to DONATE. They have a following that might be able to donate. They're just trying to appeal to more audiences. Who cares if they can sing or not. It's all for a good cause.
Sandy Koong I do agree with that (:
Samantha Yeah i get that :) And reading some of the other comments i understand that some of the people wouldn't have watched the video if it hadn't have been for Zoe, Alfie and Joe. I just thought it was a shame some of the musical youtubres didn't get a chance that was all (Only because the whole idea behind band aid was that it was all singers etc raising money). I still think it is an amazing opportunity for them and glad that youtubers are able to do amazing things like this :)
The riffing at every chance possible just totally kills the flow of the song. For singers they don’t really know how to sing properly
They all look miserable being there, I'll give it a like for the inclusion of Seal though haha
And Bono. 😉
They look SUITABLY somber.....
Lol. I thought the exact same thing. Some of them looked like they wanted to be somewhere else. Seal was one of the few who sang with any passion. Still think the 1984 version is better. No comparison.
Now I hope there will be a rendition of this song for COVID-19.
Hope they have.
I mustn't be the only person listening to this in May
I'm listening in June
I listen to Christmas songs all year round ha ha
Pearl Kelly I listen to christmas songs all year round aswell. It makes me feel happy and excited.
July for me
Emily Roberts same
This was very meh compared to the original
why was zoella there like seriously
obviouslyto raise money and show her respect
Abbie Britcher She hasn't helped raise any money though, she didn't vlog about it and I haven't ever heard her mention BandAid 30 before. Seeing this video was literally the first thing I heard about it, if she was using her fanbase to help raise awareness then I'd get it but she hasn't!
+Jasmine Short fair point :)
why can't she be there?
i never said that +Vanessa Travers
Woah, Rita's bit in the middle was amazing.
No, it was terrible. She oversung it, which is what happens when you try too hard to make it a classic.
theyarecomingforyou Well, everyone has a different opinion :)
Who's Woah Rita?
Jehovah Kill hahahaha
theyarecomingforyou Rita Ora was one of the first to record her part so she probably wasn't going off much and didn't have much idea of how the rest of the singers would perform the song. I thought she sounded great through
Am I the only one who watched this in SEPTEMBER?
November lol
+Ablaz3 Gaming me too
+Jessica Phillips December :D
Julio y parece que fuera navidad !
Should have just donated £1m each to the cause (they can more than afford it). Would have saved us all the pain of yet another self righteous pull on the heart strings. Having been to most of west Africa they are not as helpless as Sir Geldof would have you believe.
Time to deal with the issues at home before we help others.....
Y'all can't beat the original! This is just terrible. I'm all for the cause but they really butchered this! Buy the original don't buy this crap.
um.... is this a sick joke? bradtheladlong is in this but he has youtube videos where he is the worst singer in the world...what is going on here???
Who knew 6 years ago we would be in a world wide pandemic? Bizarre!
Why don't these millionaires practice what they preach and giver THEIR money away instead of asking people who actually work for a living or who are in poverty for theirs?
How do you know they don't? If they said they donated you'd be the one on here saying they did it for publicity.
wise words!
Just decide whether you want to/can give some money or buy the song, and leave it at that
true
cohenhaywood10 lololololololololololol
WHY IS BRADTHELADLONG IN THIS? I WAS JUST ABOUT TO DONATE .. LITERERALLY... JUST ABOUT TO THEN I SEE HIM. NO THANKS.
me too!
He is so insufferable.
how is Bradtheladlong in it when Zoe (Zoella) & Alfie (PointlessBlog) are in it too, & he started the rumour they were broken up?!
I'm getting old. In a few years we'll be celebrating the 40th anniversary! Hope to hear another version. Merry Christmas everybody. Let's all live out the goodness displayed in this song and treat everybody with kindness and love.
Zoe, joe and alfie did if ( zoella) ( thatcherjoe) ( pointlessblog)
Honestly quite pissed off that zoella and co were put into this video. They are not singers so why are they in this video? Don't support her or any of the others anymore tbh
Because they have millions of viewers who they can get to donate
THANK YOU!
Zoella, Thatcher Joe and Pointless Blog are in it ♥
where 😂
+freakii.sarah MSP 3.57
OMG at first I only saw Zoella and then I saw the boys!!!!! Awesome! Lol 😂
+Maddy Taylor I see Joe and Alfie. Wheres Zoe?
(Now watch me go find her right after I comment this)
+Dillon Kelley She's right beside Ed.
Bono, the legend
oh yes
Chris Martin's solo is absolutely priceless! i love him so much!! anyways, i really hope this song will really make a difference in helping with Ebola in Africa...
This whole version is terrible!
He's a joke. He has joined the rank and file paid to care brigade. Hope he ends up as hated as Bob and Bono.
Vicky Hill why?!! he's literally the most kind and humble person ever! he deserves everything he's got, in my opinion!
Vicky Hill Please dont say that.. As Amy said he is the best person I know. In fact all band members of Coldplay are so nice and humble..If u dont believe me, watch any of their interviews...
The fella singing at 1:27 was great. Really good voice. Who is he though?
www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/band-aid-30-whos-who-4642252
He's the lead singer of Elbow
Guy Garvey :)
Thanks. He is good.
I love all the artists in this version but it lacks something original one was a solid brilliant banger classic
first one was and is the best
It's great to see Bob Geldof still going, Bono still singing with this project and I love that Guy Garvey is involved.
Bless SIR Bob Geldof for his initial move to help the people of Africa in 1984....it started a movement....worldwide....later came WE ARE THE WORLD and other efforts...but, remember this...initially in 1971 there was THE CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH....
I sure miss the 80s even though I wasn’t alive.
Chis Martin is still on here like he was in the one 10 years before
And Roger Taylor is there, too!🎅😎🥁
Nothing like the 1983, what a plethora of 80s megastars , Phil Collins, Bono, Duran Duran, Culture Club, Spandau Ballet, Bananarama, Wham!,
Merry Xmas 4 everyone
A lot of people you mentioned are pretty busy people right now (but then I suppose the ones involved in this are too lmao)
hay1239
I guarantee you everyone I mentioned would of all wanted to do it.
Hmm, but Rita has a nice voice, I liked her part.
Rita shouldn't HAVE been there, not - of been there. Sam Smith should HAVE had a stronger part, not, should of. SHOULD HAVE not SHOULD OF! COULD HAVE not COULD OF! Go and learn some English!
Quedo Rants "doesn't matter" ;)
Ellie Gouldings voice is honestly so amazing. Gives me shivers. I also love that Bono is in both the original and this one
In the 80’s , singers and bands came together because they genuinely cared, this version was pathetic, and Bob geldof should be ashamed of himself
The issue behind it is the fact that most governments in Africa are corrupt.
Yep, we're fucked.
It's unfortunate that a lot of aid finds it way into the hands of unscrupulous governments and individuals, but we should never give up on Africa because of that. We should never give up hope for a better, healthier and safer Africa.
The money is to help stop Ebola which will obvs Have spread and no longer just be in Africa
They are raising money for Ebola which is spreading, and they don't have enough money to buy vaccine for the people who have Ebola. Ugh people like you always bug me
3:55 No hug for you Sinead.
It’s hard to top a masterpiece. This version is alright, but doesn’t have the energy, power and emotion of the original. It’s for a great cause so buy it none the less.
Thumbs up if you were going to vote until you saw BradTheLadLong in the video.
Oh my god...this is me. Can't stand Brad.
YES
I know it's a good cause and I respect that, but why did One Direction have to be involved? They aren't music! Couldn't they have gotten George Michael again or ELO?
some of their songs are okay but not preforming for a little girl with cancer cos they weren't going to get paid....how the fuck did they get in this?
It's funny how silly people like you believe anything that you read in magazines/newspapers, Ellie. That's a rumour that quite clearly is not true.
Ella Shefford dumb sheep
