I love how he brilliantly cuts to the wife to show her smile at what they both know was an arrangement, and the husband's acknowledgement of that. There's a deep respect of tradition between them, and a recognition that there's is a dying tradition giving way to a more Westernized idea of marriage. That's why a sadness hangs over every frame.

1 Year later. Yes theres more to that. Japanese culture is weird in a way that they marry before they love, especially with older couples.
