@@badfish41969 IKR! When we play together I just wanna listen. Like seriously! She has mastered (as Maestro Michael calls it) the hunt for the inside! I can only hope to get there someday!
I love the way she plays. It is so refreshing to see one play so soulfully in this modern soulless shred fests times we live in! I have been a subscriber to her for a while now. You can see the joy she feels with everything she plays. Great to see you cast some light on her. She deserves it greatly!
It amazes me of your mastery of theory and the ability on the fly to figure out in literal seconds what is happening within a song. Kudos to you brother. You are amazing 💪🏼🎸
I have been subscribed to Helen's channel for a while now. she always chooses something uplifting to cover. I remember how excited she was to get that Tele' a few months back.
Outstanding breakdown, Michael. I’ve been stalking your lessons for a while and this one really resonated as I’ve always loved this tune. Melody is indeed the key!
👋 Michael. Just taking time to compliment your style of playing, teaching and channel. I'm fairly new to your channel. Very impressive. You never stop learning. You teach the way I was first taught which seems like yesterday to me but it's been 48 years. Learned technics of playing. Just getting back to playing after major health issues. Music 🎶 as well as singing playing guitar 🎸 has literally retrained my motor skills and working with the memory and retrieving it for a few years. I'm finally getting where it's coming back to me with the help of you and many others. I look forward to your channel. Still learning everything I'm getting there. SRV was my favorite guitarist of all times as well as so many others. Just wanted to say thank you. You've helped and continue to help me. My brain is taking over now which is good. The doctors say I'm a miracle. I thank people I've been blessed with who continue to help. Music 🎶 I had that gift before and it is a healer in my life. Thank you Michael for your help. 😀
Michael much love. Fan. Must interject (one time) and note that this captures what music is truly about as opposed to theory. Expression!,Transcends the technics. And she definitely expressed in a way one can't not feel. Expression, in any form has no bounds or barriers. Truly Thanx for the lessons and reactions my bro. And ty for this vid.
Hammer the melody and grow from there. Fidlers have been doing this for centuries all over the world, it is what led to jazz. It's about building from the standards.
Check out Helen's rendition of session guitarist Louie Shelton's playing on Lionel Richie's 1984 song "Hello." She's so demonstrative it's a joy to watch her in action.
"...the third of the fifth is the leading tone of the root..." Wait, what? I get it... but I mean, suddenly I also get it that there are probably a hundred little axioms like that to help find one's way around the mystery of melody. This moment reminds me of being a kid in a barber's chair the first time I saw the mirrors in front of me and behind me line up into infinity. Man, I've dabbled at this for so long and felt like theory was inaccessible but the way you talk about it keeps knocking holes in that idea.
LEARNING THE MELODY!. . . AND listening to the wisdom and deep understanding that Michael is sharing with us all…..AND staying on the GUITARGATE lessons…so I can someday easily APPLY these lessons! Awesome stuff! Michael, I’d be interested in her right hand technique and use of looping pedal….if that’s somewhere in GuitarGate let me know
Good lesson, Michael. Helen rocks. When I first learned the diatonic chord progression, this was the tune I chose to practice with. This tune includes the 7th chord in that progression, A#dim in this case; Heat Wave is another good tune to practice that progression with. I digress ...
TH-cam and the copywriters are gonna make it almost impossible to create musical content. It's ridiculous. Keep pushing on Mike hopefully something will change. Not sure how "Rumble" does their stuff but you should get a back up channel over there.
Anyone here taken his course? I’ve played guitar for years but never really understood the instrument. I heard this before and it seems to fit me: I’ve learned to play songs on the guitar but I want to learn how to actually play the guitar. If you’ve taken his course do you feel it gets you to a place of understanding the instrument fully? I know it takes practice and dedication but I’ve struggled finding a source that puts the material in a logical way to truly learn the instrument. Thanks!
It’s been a lifelong dream to learn how to play the guitar. Can you teach a guy that’s lost his index finger on his left hand to a well placed 9mm? I love your style. You turn music in to science or math. It’s what I need. I need an equation.
You can play it anyway you want to man , its what you prefer to sound and according to go throw the perfect tune , or you can play straight short cut , it depends on your own personal mode.
Hallo sir, I've really learnt alot from these breakdowns. I have another request from another African lady guitarist. A short cover by ALEXANDER IVY- KWA SHANGWE guitar cover. Kindly break it down, will really appreciate.
If you do reactions to bass videos, you should check out Kinga Glyk's cover of Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton. I'm primarily a guitarist but it's such a beautiful cover.
I would like to share this with you. This is a crazy medley played by Bugs Henderson. He shows off a bunch here. He is playing an 84 PRS plugged straight into a Rivera amp which is cranked. He does everything with volume, tone, and toggle as far as tone manipulations. At the 5:43 mark he plays Yankee Doodle and Dixie at the same time. This album which is rare and hard to find is a must for guitar players. Michael, Helen, whom I see has commented below, is featured on a wonderful video by Paul Davids in which five guitarists play over a loop provided by Davids, and she does a marvelous job. You mentioned, Rick Beato, one of the most knowledgeable and entertaining teachers on the internet, and while there are many of whom I am not aware, I am sure, I will also mention Mike Pachelli. You're in very good company and certainly deserve to be there....
Whoaaaa! What a lovely surprise, Michael! Thanks so much for the shout out!!!!

Helen did a awesome job in one of Paul David's videos (5 guitarist loop over the same chords)! Been a fan ever since, nice video Michael!
My girl Helen is the bomb.
That was awesome, she totally killed it. I love how much joy comes through while she's playing.

I think it sounds better on guitar than the original recording on keys. Nice breakdown as always, thank you MP.
Love this. Thank you. 😘💥‼️
Excellent breakdown. You nailed it, Michael. Thank you!

I dig her, she seems like a cool chic and she plays beautifully
Excellent break down and insight…able to explain it so simply
Very soulful! I can hear the Curtis Mayfield and Hendrix along with her own style. Beautiful
The melody of the song is what the old schoolers say is the meat and potatoes. Awesome break down of Helens tasty playing
Wow! This is amazing
Ms. Ibe plays with such joy. It just oozes out of her. It even more compelling than her brilliant playing, IMO.
Deftly dissected and explained. Nice work and thank you.

Check out the band The Blue Stones. Especially their song "Be My Fire" or "Spirit." They have some great riffs that would be awesome to breakdown!
And there's one other trick she does that you forgot to mention: be beautiful and charismatic.
