Time Lapse of New Lawn Growing from Seed

  • This is a time-lapse of my new lawn growing from seed. The video starts at around day 8 or 9, as the first week or so was just a waiting game. The total time to get to the current height and density is 21 days. Filming was done in April when the weather was decidedly cooler and poorer than the average temperatures.
    I did record a series of videos that document the entire process of me killing off the lawn, scarifying, aerating, levelling, overseeding and topdressing the lawn. The full series can be watched here. • Full Lawn Renovation -...
    The grass seed I used is Hurrels HRC.1 blend : www.hmseeds.co...
    I sowed a layer of seed quite heavily right after aeration, and before levelling. Then a further layer of seed was put down just before the final topdressing.
    I used a simple scotts drop spreader to apply the seed: amzn.to/3hBGYiK
    Overall there are no major bare spots, and the lawn did endure countless bird activity and a major heavy lightning rainstorm!
    Filmed using my Gopro hero 8, and Camtasia used for the editing.

    They say rye grass seed germinates quickly but 10 minutes from seed to a full lawn is crazy fast lol :). Looks great and nice camera work.

    Cheers for this video. Warched the series but only just came across this when hunting for time lapses. Was getting concerned as i have a few bare spots that look bad when looking down on it, but watching the last bit of this make me see its perhaps just how new lawns look when looking right down on it.
    Assuming regular conditions, how long after this for it to start having that established lawn look close up?
    Thanks also for all of your videos, they have been so helpful in trying to work out what to do in a sensible way.

    I overseeded and haven't cut it for just over 5 weeks. I spoke to suppliers and they said leave it as long as possible maybe up to 8 weeks, but another said can cut it now on high setting The existing grass is getting high. There are some bare spots but I can see it is still coming through. Not sure what to do. Thanks Shaun

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait for sdry day in the next week and just tread carefully. The worst that can happen is a few get squished. Grass is pretty tough anyway but if it's ready then why all means go over on a high setting

    Why did you choose to seed a perennial ryegrass blend? In the United States, we generally only use PRG in mixes because we feel it is more susceptible to diseases than other turfgrass species.

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didnt spend too long thinking about it if honest. I was mesmerised seeing the turf at alocal horse racing venue, and went to my seed supplier who had a "racecourse blend" containing dwarf rye grasses. Ive only ever heard good things about it.
