    I actually use one of these for work (2018 LR model) I'm a paramedic. Ours are kitted out and slightly souped up. I spend 12 hours a day, 4 days a week in my truck. In almost all aspects, it's a HUGE step up from the traditional F450s we used before. It handles better, it's faster, and the SATNAV... Oh my god the sat nav. It has literally saved lives...

      I have been driving a 2020 for 4 years. Worst seats ever, and no torque and gear hunting on the 10 speed. It needs a V8 or a biTurbo V6(eco boost). Those are it's main flaws.

      And the new ones in EU are that crappy 2.0L EcoBlue Diesel now. We have the 2.2L Duratec one (highest spec/power), at least those last long. But this 2.0L one... we'll just pick another brand. Sad stuff, I love the interior and how it handles, etc.

      Exactly. All disels which is annoying because not every van owner is doing 25,000 miles a year. Some only do short journeys so the DPF eventually stops working causing more problems.

    I rented one of these to move out of my apartment. Having never driven a cargo van before, it was super easy to drive and great driving on the freeway. It was also nice having the lane keep assist and backup camera. Much better to drive, more tech and better looking than the econoline and current Chevy cargo vans.

    I drive a Transit 150 LR for work, and after driving an E150, the driving characteristics are massively improved. You had to almost fight the Econoline on the highway, and they were so underpowered with the 4.6. I really like driving the Transit, it's so much more comfortable to drive all day and it really scoots for a van.

  • @TandC281
    @TandC281 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Econolines are stressful to drive in a city. Suspension will hurt you, lack of acceleration will get you in trouble, steering had no input and never stayed on center. I actually left a job mostly due to being issued an E250. Transit is a huge leap forward!

  • @distantsoil
    @distantsoil 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I spent a few years driving Transits all over the UK and developed a weird love for them. They're insanely capable, comfortable, and it's no wonder they're considered the "backbone of Britain ". I was genuinely excited when I saw them for sale when they first showed up in the USA, and was happily surprised when I had to rent a truck at UHaul and got given a transit instead of the econoline conversion. Felt like getting in to an old friend and I found driving it to be easier than my regular car at the time... and I hadn't driven a van since I moved to the US and started driving on the other side of the road.
    Years later, and even though I have zero practical purpose to drive a van every day, there's a part of me that still wants to. I can't explain it, but I genuinely do want to daily drive one of these things because they're just that good to drive. It's inexplicable compared to some of the other cars I've owned and driven over the years, yet still, somehow, I want 'this'... what the hell is wrong with me??

    I have been wanting a van and doing my own conversion to suit my needs. This van with all wheel drive seems to be perfect for overland camping and touring the U.S. Now that I'm retired I can do the conversion taking the time to do the conversion right. I thought about hauling a tear drop trailer or a cargo trailer but the idea of getting stuck and not being able to back up is concerning; having been a Class A eighteen wheeler operator for several years taught me quite a bit. The idea of living the van life, although not always glamorous, still excites me. Thanks for sharing this video. BTW I love your idea of hauling a race car and living in your van. It gives me the idea to haul an ATV or a boat.

    I think when people say something drives like a truck, it's really a reference to actual CDL-required commercial vehicles. Something that says Freightliner on the front, with the 3ft steering wheel. Something with the seat mounted on the ultra-sketchy suspension thing, which feels like sitting on a yoga ball while trying to drive. Pickups used to have a little of that flavor, but a modern F-150 is just a really big car.

    Vans have made so much progress, it's almost like driving a car, and I think manufacturers do a lot for comfort too because if you drive all day every day, and it pisses you off to even start the engine, just leaving the parking, your work day is gonna suck. In the heavy truck industry this something we care a lot and measure between brands, because driver give honest feedbacks (they spend more time in trucks than at home). I used to borrow a Peugeot J9 (check if you're interested), sliding front door openened the summer, diesel 4 cyl na right between the driver and the passenger in the dog house, slow as hell. That was punishment :D :D

    Ive owned 3 E series vans and an awd chevy half ton van and a 2015 transit mr 2wd with the powerstroke engine . As a camper the transit is weak tea compared to the e Series. It drives well on pavement and the handling is more car than truck due to reduced weight but that weight (steel) is critical when you want to get off the pavement. Here in the west getting to almost any remote campsite requires some off road durability which the transit has nil. After 22k miles the transit had more squeaks, leaks , and recalls than my 06 e 350 with almost 200k. And ford is still putting a known defective drive shaft in the transit. Splain that ford! I will never buy a new ford vehicle again . I currently own the 06 e350, a 16 f150 4wd and an 06 dodge 1500 4wd.

    I think these are a great alternative to the F150s that most North Americans love. You get WAY more bed length in a Transit, and it's enclosed. Plus, parents with kids could simply park somewhere, walk to the back for feeding or diaper changes and continue on their way without stepping into the mud.
    I just wish for higher towing capacity, especially in the passenger versions. 10,000 lbs would be nice, but some configurations are as low as 2000 lb.

    • @EnjoyFirefighting
      @EnjoyFirefighting 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      for the "walk into the back" part I'd rather choose a van with high roofline, and maybe not a Transit

    Let me start with I live in Massachusetts and work in the Boston area daily, and the Storrow Drive story is 10000% accurate. I don't get it because they have to pass several signs, hit chains, and potentially more signs before they get to those bridges. It's really incredible. A unique state as far as drivers for sure.
    Anyway
    I drive a 2016 Transit 250 low roof, or regular roof?? Van daily for work. I love it over the older E250s. There's a few things I can't really stand but I've gotten used to. I really want one with the new dash such as yours in this video. I'll agree completely that they drive like cars. And the best part is the turning radius compared to the predecessor.
    I could go on and on but I won't on here unless someone wants to know! Thanks for the video!

  • @EnjoyFirefighting

    We have the current Ford Transit at work and tbh ... I'm absolutely not happy with it. Yes it is much better than the previous Ford Transit Custom, at least it has a little bit more leg room for the driver and co-driver, but in the end it's still a Transit. We only use it for the less important, less urgent stuff and only in the light 3.5t medium roof van configuration while we use the Sprinter in a roughly 5t configuration with a large box. Also it doesn't offer much clever storage space in the cab, ...
    You should drive it at high speeds in wet conditions ... the wipers will bang against the a-pillars, and backing up can be tricky with wet windows on the side; ROlling them down doesn't help much as the front part of the side windows doesn't go down, and that's exactly the sightline onto the mirrors

    In my honest opinion, the ford E series was a. Inch better overall van. Only thing the transit has over the old ones is the interior space however it seems like the engines and transmissions are garbage from my research. Considering the Chevy Econoline since it has much better and more reliable drivetrain options especially with the v8s
