@ArousMaster It’s the early access streamer event. Everyone playing in this event is a professional at some capacity. Whether that means they play on the pro tour or they make content about magic for a living. It is extremely rare for anyone to 7-0 at an event like this, even with a great deck. That’s because everyone that is drafting will walk away with a great deck that has the capacity to 7-0. So I’ve found that win loss record comes down to two things. One, did you play your cards perfectly and draw well? And two, did you run into a bad match up or not? But, it is much more difficult to walk away with a 7-0 when everyone’s deck is capable of that. Still, it was a very cool deck and most importantly lots of fun to play!
@@mtgmonster8755 It's a good point and I totally agree. The level of competition is very high. The deck looked solid and fun to play, also zero mulligans in 7 games is great to have. Looking back now, perhaps Fear of Infinity wasn't so helpful in a couple of games, as it's not blocking and not helping you survive till the combo or big creatures arrive.
@ArousMaster I think the Fear of Infinity is a fine inclusion in this build. The bigger problem this deck had was it had a split synergy build. Think how different this deck would look had I opened Marina pack 1 pick 1. Instead we had two bad opens and were weaving around a manifest value plan with grievous wound trying desperately to find any pings from red to go with it. By the time Marina showed up we had already made several picks through pack 1 and 2 I would have done differently had I known we could dig 7 deep for enchantments. Instead I had to take non enchantments that were stronger to make sure the manifest win con was getting there. If I built this again from pack 1 pick 1 knowing I’d be in a Marina deck I think I’d still run the fear of infinity. The things this deck were really missing are more enchantments and a solid board wipe or two. Pyroclasm was good, but we needed something that could board wipe larger threats too.
Awesome gameplay. I did notice you could have won a turn earlier in game 1; if you had exiled the glimmer token (enchantment) with exorcise, Fear of the Dark would have gotten menace due to the opponent having no glimmers
@toamatau8785 There were several different ways I could have won game 1 earlier. I think if I attack all even before I play out Fear of the Dark, if they don’t block the 2/2 that pings for 1 they go to one on board bc they have to take 2 plus 1. Then I can play out the Fear of the Dark for the final 1 damage. But yes, I also forgot the 5/5 could get menace, and there was also a point where I should have just flipped the spider earlier so I could sac it earlier. Game one drags out because I was playing sloppy. But it turned out in the end. But yah that’s on me. Game one was a complete mess from my end with a series of bad turns by me. Good thing I had the game firmly under my control. I blame being tired from the stream. I literally took a 20 minute break and ate dinner followed by this draft so my brain was a bit fried and I was tired. But when I was rendering it out for upload I also realized just how badly I misplayed game one! Great catches. 🙌 I am genuinely happy you found those lines as well. That’s some great paying attention to the gameplay.
@@mtgmonster8755 I just found your channel the other day while prepping for prerelease tomorrow, really been enjoying it. That kind of analysis and your explanations of what you're thinking during the game is what makes it fun to watch, keep it up
starting off with the manifest dread whiffs in game 1... you think it's gonna be a real problem for decks going forward, or is this a Fireglass Mentor know what you're doing kind of situation?
@malasdair Great question. So obviously, if you can build a deck with recursion and grave value the manifest gets even stronger. This is partly why I think Sultai and Bant can be slightly better than just Simic (although green has some recursion as well). I don't mind "losing out" on manifested cards. It's pure value and luck/ not luck of the hits. See it as self mill. It's okay to lose out on some great cards. The only reason why it's dicey in this particular deck is I literally have one win con. If it's gone I only have one way to get it back. But even with that I'm still willing to manifest. Don't be scared to do it. Many decks in this set want you to put stuff in your own grave. Don't be afraid to go there. If you don't like doing that then you'll enjoy playing the beat down decks more in Boros and Azorius. Have fun at your prerelease. good luck!
I've missed running 5 colour piles. Looking forward to drafting this set.
Love to see it! 😁
When I first saw you had 7 games, I had a slight hope you went 7-0 with it. Great deck, was really fun to watch.
