Wendy Dio is a wonderful lady. On my 16th birthday (about 12 years ago) a group of friends and I were taken to a Dio show on the Holy Diver tour, and it was arranged by our youth group to meet the Dio and the band, who were all so happy to answer every one of our questions and sign records. After the show, Wendy came to check we had a good time. When she found it was my birthday she took me to the merch stand and asked me what I would like. I was dumbfounded, so she passed me one of the new box sets and said she hoped it was ok. Ronnie and Wendy are true heroes!
I had the honor of meeting RJD back in the 80's, backstage at the Fox Theater in San Diego. While we were talking I mentioned that I actually owned an "Elf" album and he laughed and said, "Don't tell anyone." RIP Ronnie
Wow man just being humble I guess I've got the first three Elf albums the one simply titled Elf (really cool album cover with Dio as a elf)the second LA 59 also the Carolina county ball same songs actually and then Trying to burn the sun all of them outstanding to say the least
I played the Elf and Rainbow albums at work, and a female co-worker who never heard him before said he has a really beautiful voice. This was a woman that only listened to pop country.
I met Ronnie on the Headbangers Ball in Atlanta. There was a huge line. He stayed in line until the last fan left. He greeted every fan with a handshake. He talked to every fan..autographed every picture..and posed with every fan. He thanked us for coming. I have met hundreds of musicians and he is still the nicest. And everyone I have met that worked with him was just as kind. It was an honor to meet him. And I met Wendy on the Monsters of Rock cruise and what a wonderful lady
I knew him from '70 to '77, 78. He was ALWAYS the gracious, great friend, from local to world fame. He always made ME feel like the guest of honor. That never changed. In the earlier days we both played bass in bands that shared several venues. But other than him handing me his bass to check out, and once taking out to their (Elves) equipment truck to tell me excitedly about the first Elf lp, we never talked music(oh, yeah, when we last spoke backstage at the Winterland in SF, he caught me up to date with what his former bandmates were up to). But he was an intelligent and the nicest of guys. And, he was keenly aware no matter what level, that he wouldn't be there if it weren't for the fans. At the Winterland, after finishing a mag interview and welcoming me with a big hug, I waited for him to meet several fans, autographs, and such, before we found a table in the corner of the "catered" room where we could just visit for an hour, hour and a half. I'll forever miss his great friendship.
@@expertexcavatinginc I didn't know that until Vivian brought it up in an article a few days ago. Basically one of the things Ozzy and Dio have in common. Domineering wives controlling everything.
A bunch of us cornered Ronnie outside his bus after an Angry Machines gig. The hotel manager tried to hold us back (because the public street was hotel property apparently), but Ronnie's manager told him to let us through, and Ronnie himself was the nicest guy on the planet; he signed everything, took pics, and smiled patiently at our star-struck idiocies. He was so warm and welcoming and friendly, he seemed genuinely happy to see us. I'll never forget that day and never forget him. . . Long live!
Wendy Dio is a great lady. She cares about Ronnie’s fans as much as he did. Thanks to her, I was able to get backstage passes to many UK Dio gigs over the years and met Wendy once, shook her hand and thanked her. I still thank her. The money she has raised and still raises for the Stand up and Shout Cancer fund is wonderful.
The only thing she cares is a quick buck outta her dead husbands fans. Since Ronnie's death , this woman's been constantly milking the fanbase by releasing all kinds of "remasters" and "super buper deluxe edition" of Dio albums, merchandise, books, even resurrecting the poor guy with "hologram" concerts and stuff. and now she's been remarried again to some random guy.
Notice that unlike most musicians talking about themselves in WFOF, it seems like she doesn't even have to think... Before answering questions not on what she lived herself, but on what her dead husband told her years ago! That is some true loyalty right there. Gotta love it.
As someone who knew him from 70 to 77,78, I can attest how amazing his memory was. To be honest, I NEVER visited him backstage without the "social" passing of the joint, never. In those earlier days, we were two bassplayers from bands that shared several venues, but except for him excitedly telling me about their first upcoming Elf lp, and once handing me his bass to check out (his idea), we didn't really talk about music. We were just two friends who both played bass, just enjoying their breaks. He was a very intelligent man, gracious, and a great friend. He didn't even get bent when I asked him his height (I then told him he was within a half inch of my mom, my grand dad was shorter, like his cousin Rock.).
Bradley Mabb that’s cool! I wish I knew him, I want to be a lead guitarist, but I am currently on the struggle bus, his wife sent me a letter, it was a nice letter, but I’ve heard bad things about her and idk how to feel about Mrs Wendy Dio myself, but Ronnie James Dio you can tell by looking at him he was a good guy.
He genuinely loved his fans. I remember seeing him in Reno when I was sixteen, I spent the whole summer saving up my money so I could buy a bus ticket and hotel stay. I drew up a fist throwing the 'goat' with long fingernails and a spike bracelet erupting from the 'DIO' logo unto a bed sheet I cut to arms length. During the concert I was already smiling ear to ear, sweating from all the head banging, holding that flag as high as I could. Between one of the numbers, over the mic, he looked me right in the eye, pointed and said 'nice flag'. I bled happiness from my eyes!
Amazing interview! Wendy thank you for keeping Ronnie's memory alive! I love his music and all the good he has done for others. He truly loved people and is dearly missed!

Only thing I was unhappy about Wendy was when she sold his two early basses (and other basses and guitars). Should have gone to the R&R Hall, or Hard Rock Cafes.
Discovered his music just a couple of years ago and shit do I regret never having heard anything of his work before. The man was a musical and lyrical master. One of the greatest musician to have ever walked this forsaken rock.
I knew Ronnie from fall of '70right up to the last time we talked (for over an hour) backstage at the Winterland in SF about 77, 78. They were on Rainbow's "Long Live Rock" tour. I got to see him go from local to world fame. And I can attest that he was always a gracious friend and backstage host from the beginning to end. He was also very intelligent and had amazing recall. He remembered friends, mutual fans, and venues (We shared several venues in those early Elves days). He always treated me like I was the special guest when we visited backstage. I still remember how he took me out to their equipment truck to tell about having finished the recording of the first Elf lp. He was very excited about that. Once again, what I remember most is what a great guy he was.
Ronnie James Dio was such a kind soul, full of life. I've never known a more precious musician deserving of life. Rest in peace. We all love you and miss you
His love for his fans and the stage was ultimately his downfall. He went to see the doctor too late. Odd for me, since my band and his shared several venues in earlier days (70 to ? Can't remember when he stopped playing in WNY, but I moved back to Ca in '73.), but our drummer of the day died from the exact same cancer. Both Italian. Hmmm, diet? Dunno.
Thank you so much Wendy - you and Ronnie are so much a huge part of the music community and I simply cannot thank you enough for all that you both have done - you were the perfect pair - thank you again and may Ronnie always RIP - love you both...
3 of the greatest joys of my life was meeting DIO 3 times after shows in Connecticut. DIO is well spoken down to earth and just one of the nicest people I have ever met. The world lost one of the best metal/rock singers of this century and he will continue to inspire musicians for generations to come. All the best to his family, from all of his fans THANK YOU
Hey Wendy, loved this interview. You brought new dimensions to my understanding of Ronnie’s life. He was phenomenal and I’m sure you contributed to his success. Rock on
I have one, though not one she authored. I knew him from '70 to '77, '78 (Our bands used to share several venues, but we rarely talked about music). I found a few mistakes in the book I knew of, but mostly a good read. I'm sure Wendy's will be better.
Ronnie was one of the VERY few TRUE Renaissance men of metal/hard rock! Intelligent, well spoken & well read, his jazz trumpet prodigy background which gave him the great techniques, his appreciation for the finer things in life-then the fact he could write & rock out like few others have-or ever WILL. One of the greatest voices rock has, or will produce! RIP Ronnie, and thank you Wendy!
Yes, true love shows up here. Ronnie, you'll always be my hero of singing. Wendi, you truly loved him and so did he. What an emotional life, I'm happy that these two guys found it and enjoyed it. R. I. P. RJD
Ronnie was one of two friends in my life I never got over their passing. He was always very gracious, making ME feel like I was the guest of honor backstage. I knew him from his Elves days (70) to our last visit (over an hour 77or 78)at the Winterland in SF while on Rainbow's Long Live Rock tour. The same Ronnie beginning to end. An intelligent and great guy. We shared a lot of great times.
Personally I think that Wendy coves across as genuine and very sincere, just like everyone's favorite granny with a nice warm smile. Still missed ronnie, always will be.
I named my four legged child Dio. He’s a corgi so small in stature but incredible in presence. He also has a powerful howl, yet is the sweetest most loving little man ever. There was no other name that would fit. It’s fun to see when people understand the name, but sadly most don’t. Dio was a huge idol of mine. I grew up with his music blasting in my house and when I got older and got to know more about him, I just loved him more. He too was a animal parent and loved animals and donated to animal charities. He was intelligent and stood for things. Plus, he was great at telling stories especially about his Italian family and the evil eye. God Bless You Ronnie James Dio🙏🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Hit the nail on the head! I knew him for several years, from before his fame and after he reached world prominence. He was forever the great, gracious guy. I once asked him his height (4'10" or 4'11"), then I told him my mom was 4 10½. He loved that!
That's love right there. The fact that she knows so much about Ronnie to the point she's able to answer the questions Graham asked her shows how much they shared with each other.
@@talkshow69 - Maybe they did remain friends, but friends don’t drag your memory and legacy through the mud, like Wendy is doing to Ronnie with the hologram bullshit. It’s creepy, lame and an obvious money grab, although she says they lose money on it. Yeah, right. Ronnie is break dancing in his grave thanks to his greedy harpy of an ex.
What a wonderful lady. I wish I had seen Ronnie live, never got the chance. I have visited his grave a few times and left him flowers tho. So at least I've gotten to do that. RIP RJD \m/
Wendy is so sweet. There was some weird stuff going on in the eighties, and I know there were a few times that I saw Ronnie without his wedding ring, but overall, she really stuck by Ronnie. She seemed just devastated at his funeral. She's always the lady, and was so nice to all the fans, but she could barely walk from the grief.
According to his biography they put out last year, their marriage had some rocky parts, but that's to be expected, especially when Ronnie loved to just tour.
I'll never say a bad word about this lovely woman. She called my son on his 9th birthday and sent him a box of stuff... shirts, CD set, bracelet, hat. Very sweet. Wendy, if you read this, thanks again!!
My teen years were spent with the same boyfriend. We basically raised each other, we were together from when I was barely 13. We went to see Dio and for some reason got into a fight before and I was devastated. I was really upset all through the concert and really didn't get into it, but I think I was 3rd row and my bf was 1st row and my best girlfriend was next to me. Afterwards, my friend told me that Dio was trying to get me to cheer up through the whole concert. She said he seemed really concerned. I don't know. As a teen age girl that was totally in the metal scene in the 80's, I sat front row for a lot of shows. My boyfriend and I would "camp out" (you know, back in the days when you had to actually be physically present to buy tickets) so we would be first in line. I had musicians pay attention to me, but it was always, "meet me back stage baby" kinds of vibes, and I never was that girl. But it touched me that Ronnie payed attention to me in that way. I think he cared about his fans and wasn't just about exploiting the scene. Ronnie James Dio, Randy Rhoads and Bruce Dickinson are the people I loved as a kid and have never been disappointed by. :)
I have a few music-related regrets in my life, regarding artists I never got to see live -- and had opportunities to see. My top three (as I was too young to be able to see Freddie Mercury) are Tom Petty, David Bowie, and Ronnie James Dio.
🤘🤘🤘🤘 beautiful interview about a legend by his lovely wife, I saw Dio in Germany in 2000 & to this day it was my favourite concert of all time, R.I.P. RJD 🙏
rest in peace dio, we all miss you more than any thing😢🤘🤘🤘🤘 this interview was so sad to watch nowadays because of his death. i had tears in my eves. espesialy when he said he was nearly cured, he was too young to go.
Saw Dio in 2000 with Deep Purple (during the orchestra tour) in Rotterdam (NL). I was 12 years old and with my dad. It was the best I've ever seen. Ronnie sang Sitting in a Dream, Love is All, Fever Dreams and Rainbow in the Dark. The show came out later as an official bootleg. You should check it out :).
Superb interview, and very interesting. Wendy comes across as a very nice lady. We all know that Ronnie will live forever. We still miss him, though... \m/
Saw Ronnie with Rainbow in 77. Just blew me away. I recall once speaking to Wendy on the phone when as a drummer, I was trying to get a audition with Rough Cutt. Nice lady.
Long Live Rock & Roll tour? That's when we last visited (well over an hour), backstage at the Winterland in SF (We were both bassplayers, from bands that shared several venues in WNY when we first became friends in fall of '70). Got to watch him go from local to world fame. He deserved it as well all now know. Intelligent guy and great friend. He never changed.

Her knowing Ronnie,as she is a vibrant intellectual, Manager, Lover, all things, problems incurred, she now is equipped to truthfully attain a constant word for the book. I see someone who tastefully sees truth and covers wrongs to a degree of opacity. Melding enough hurt within, to bring the void to light. It takes time in wisdom to see but it also takes strength which she has. No wonder she put Ronnie thru (H) visa versa thus new songs of our lives were birthed. I see why Ron chose her as knowing him. Some things are more important than sex.
She "told" Stephen from Ratt to do some coke with her and fuck he refused. Wendy hated Ronnies band of guys DIO- and always made sure they starved. She ruined Vivian Campbell's life at the time.
Back in 2010, I was about to graduate high school and I made it a point that Ronnie James Dio would be my first heavy metal concert experience. Sadly, it didn't happen. RIP Ronnie James Dio.
It would be interesting to know if he read ancient mythology because there are a number of songs that echo stories from cuneiform texts such as "I" and "Children of the Sea". I did a lot of research and reading of hoary legends to find out for myself if mythology recorded the destruction of the Earth during The Younger Dryas Impact Theory while listening to Dio and it is remarkable how the same message is being sounded out in text and lyrics. At the beginning of the book I wrote about it I recommend listening to Dio and others. For example Ishtar is know as a virgin and a whore from "Children of the Sea" and "I" is much like the hero stories of fighting the dragon.
@Shadow Self - I listen to his stuff all the time, even have Rainbow on LP's. Wish I had more, but have enough on flashdrive and let all the rock music run random or shuffle. I want to know what books he had in his library.

Hmmm, diet? Dunno.
Who the hell disliked this?
ozzy osbourne
hahaha that genuinely made me laugh.
EDsavant Heaven.
EDsavant Someone that knows nothing of the metal.
EDsavant I was going to say Vivian Campbell but Ozzy was much funnier. haha
YES! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS EPISODE!
imagine being DIO and not knowing you had THAT voice?! RIP my friend!!!
He did. Never a egotistic bone in his body, but he knew, (and we knew) he was destined for stardom. When he got it, we weren't surprised at all.
this hit me in the feels.
Great episode man, love this series.
All the best to his family, from all of his fans
THANK YOU
John Van Haaren - What shows, if I may ask? I’m from CT and saw Ronnie many times, but never had the good fortune to meet him.
What a lovely lady. I'm glad Graham kept the whole thing respectful and sober.
Hey Wendy, loved this interview. You brought new dimensions to my understanding of Ronnie’s life. He was phenomenal and I’m sure you contributed to his success. Rock on
super nice lady! i met her and was just blown away at how polite and classy she is!
Definitely the greatest and nicest guy ever in my opinion.
Not opinion - that's the consensus. RJD was a cool dude.
Coolest rock stars I ever met were Paul Stanly and Sammy Hager oh and b.b.king
stoked for the book now
I have one, though not one she authored. I knew him from '70 to '77, '78 (Our bands used to share several venues, but we rarely talked about music). I found a few mistakes in the book I knew of, but mostly a good read. I'm sure Wendy's will be better.
R.I.P. Dio
What's worse is Peter Steele (Type O Negative) dies only a month earlier...!
Varg Vikernes Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction? LOL!!!
Hahaha, fuck yeah dude!
He's pretty far away but Varg has already basically done it himself.
Please. It would just be fiction coming out of his mouth lol Guys a crank.
If Loudwire sent him an email asking he would just tell them to fuck off probably.
So what is fact and what is fiction? *points* Let's find out!
Agreed! We were friends from '70 to '77, '78. He was all those thing, and he never changed.
I’m sure I’m not the only one that could listen to Wendy’s stories about Ronnie for hours. 🤘Ronnie you are truly missed🤘
little 5 year old dio playing the trumpet
cay k STAND UP AND *trumpet noises*
Blueblaze5 I laughed way too hard at this
Probably still metal as fuck
If you're going to do something like this again, please do one about Dimebag with Vinnie Paul or Rita!
Neighbour Thrashman I think they all ready did but I'm not sure.
They did "You Think You Know Metal" video about Dimebag.
they did i think
Rubick's Cube I think he means that they do a Wikipedia fact or fiction with vinie pual talking about dimebag
I don't think that Vinnie would do it right now. R.i.p
Anyone else got emotional watching this?
جبريل أوفال Definitely :'(
جبريل أوفال Yes indeed
Yes
@BONG JOVI get some compassion dude, for real
That's love right there. The fact that she knows so much about Ronnie to the point she's able to answer the questions Graham asked her shows how much they shared with each other.
Love? They broke up twenty years before Ronnie passed away. 🙄
@@crusheverything4449 If it's not love, what other reasons do you have to get Wendy for this, other than that they remained friends?
@@talkshow69 - Maybe they did remain friends, but friends don’t drag your memory and legacy through the mud, like Wendy is doing to Ronnie with the hologram bullshit. It’s creepy, lame and an obvious money grab, although she says they lose money on it. Yeah, right. Ronnie is break dancing in his grave thanks to his greedy harpy of an ex.
@@crusheverything4449 "They divorced around 1985, although Wendy remained his manager as well as his friend during all of Dio's career." Wikipedia
@@mightymadzak - Yeah… and?
What a lovely lady, I wish the video was longer to here some fun stories of the old days!
Rest In Peace, Ronnie James Dio. Few metal gods that were as lovable as that guy.
What a wonderful lady. I wish I had seen Ronnie live, never got the chance. I have visited his grave a few times and left him flowers tho. So at least I've gotten to do that. RIP RJD \m/
I hope you didn’t smell the flowers, cuz, well...you know...
You can tell she's very excited to talk about Dio. So sad that he isn't with us anymore.
Amazing interview Wendy. You Rock
She seems real nice.
For an inflatable raft.
Wendy is finishing Dio's book this year. I've got it pre-ordered, I'm very excited to read .
I've never been into his music, but i LOVE Dio. Amazing voice, perfect frontman and seems like such a allround great guy. A legend!
He was a great guy. Knew him over several years, from local player to world fame, he never changed. Very intelligent, too.
I'll never say a bad word about this lovely woman. She called my son on his 9th birthday and sent him a box of stuff... shirts, CD set, bracelet, hat. Very sweet. Wendy, if you read this, thanks again!!
They were probably just jealous of Dio's godly voice, that's why they accused him of raising the volume of his vocals. His voice is just so powerful.
She would be the coolest grandma.
She is a grandma
Rest in peace Dio. I know it’s late but I think it’s better to say goodbye late rather than never. Gonna miss you man.
I can't wait for the book!
What a gem. Great that Wendy could verify or correct info that’s out on the web. ✨✨✨. RIP RJD💫💫💫
🤘🤘🤘🤘 beautiful interview about a legend by his lovely wife, I saw Dio in Germany in 2000 & to this day it was my favourite concert of all time, R.I.P. RJD 🙏
I can not WAIT for the book.
O man this ep is good
Dio was a bass player? Outstanding!
Can you imagine him playing a hulking great bass guitar? Sorry, I love Ronnie, but he was tiny.
Yeah he played bass for a great while, even on the first Elf album
He played some uncredited bass on "Heaven & Hell" when Geezer was unavailible!
Did he dance like Rudy Sarzo.
Yeah. He said, that helped him to wrote Songs with Iommi. He had a Riff, Iommi had a Riff and so goes on.
Excellent upload!
I didn't get exposure to Dio until "pick of destiny", since then, I have been hooked!
rest in peace dio, we all miss you more than any thing😢🤘🤘🤘🤘
this interview was so sad to watch nowadays because of his death. i had tears in my eves. espesialy when he said he was nearly cured, he was too young to go.
I knew they were going to do this very soon!
it's awesome that she takes the time to do this :)
Gr8 interview!
That was wonderful. Thank you for sharing❣❣❣
What a classy lady. Excellent "Fact or Fiction" episode
Great info. N great singer, songwriter, performer, musician n great man that will always be n the rock n roll children’s hearts! Long Live Rock N Roll! R.I.P. RJP.
Pio rules!
"It would have been one of the great joys of my life to do one of these with Ronnie, but instead I got you, so...fuck it let's begin"
Graham is somewhat (unintentionally) rude and Wendy is a sweetheart.
I almost shed a tear watching this.
Thank you.
I was a good football player, but not under our organized high school football team. I played my best football after listening to Ronnie James Dio, on our way to football practice.. Last~In~Line👊🏼🥳 scrimmage of our team and I crushed people! Not sure what happened, but I owe it to listening to Ronnie James Dio on my way to football practice 😂 edit! Last in Line! WAs the song that souped me up! Best song under the firmament 🔥🙌🏻🤘🏻
Thank you Hartman for doing this !
Makes me real sad That I'll never get to see him live anymore :(
great job on the interview btw!
She "told" Stephen from Ratt to do some coke with her and fuck he refused. Wendy hated Ronnies band of guys DIO- and always made sure they starved. She ruined Vivian Campbell's life at the time.
Rock on ! Stay the course !
Loud wire deserves more subs
First time seeing an interview of her.
Pavarotti and Dio together? wow
Back in 2010, I was about to graduate high school and I made it a point that Ronnie James Dio would be my first heavy metal concert experience. Sadly, it didn't happen. RIP Ronnie James Dio.
Dio is one of three people called Ronnie of which I am a massive fan of.
The other two were comedians. (Fork handles)
Kishore Shenoy At least one of them isn't Ronnie Radke ahaha
Ronnie Van Zant?
@@jameswisman5359 Lol!Not!
What a lovely lady! I knew I liked her from when I saw her eyes and when she just had spoken a few words. She reminds me of my mother in law.
Wendy, fact or fiction?🔥Perfect comenting🤘Hello Wendy🙌you have lost a Marvelous BEING witch still causes it the day 2020, such Sensitivity, Emotion and see it on « You Tube » as HAPPINESS,my first album is « Catch thé Rainbow » Magnificent is Ronnie🥰tea and I’m Fan for all time, such a Talent is incomparable, we will never see it, like him again, it is our LIFE FOREVER, good Sequel to YOU WENDY, GREAT, GREAT RONNIE🔥RESPECT, LOOK OUT!! FIRE! IS MAGIC!!🤘🎶is JUST RONNIE🤘💋😪
The BEST concert I was ever at as a teenager. Ronnie was a true musician and a great person.
Your amazing Wendy! I do wonder where she’s from tho! She definitely has an accent of some sort! And I know his is odd but I wanna see Ronnie James Dio’s hologram live! I am a big Dio fan and was supposed to go see him for my 12th birthday ? 8 years ago? But he ended up passing away! Rock in peace Ronnie we love and miss you still!
WENDY WE LOVE YOU !!! DIO IS STILL ALIVE !!
R.I.P Ronnie James Dio
let's face it they're aint too many that can or will ever sing and be the badass Ronnie was and will always be
Wendy you seem so genuine and down to earth and obviously you know everything about Ronnie James Dio for obvious reasons, but I am curious to know where your from? Love your voice but cannot place it!
Antonio Sapienza oh that’s cool. I love the English accent.
Antonio Sapienza Also yes I know she’s not a great person but it’s not my place to say anything bad about her. This other guy and I got into a fight over it. So I pretty much just blocked him.
Thanks for sharing Mrs. Dio !
Wow, what's she done to her face?
The greatest rock singer to grace the earth. Godspeed Ronnie.
met her! such a wonderfull awesome nice person!
