Very useful survey of the Vienna game with 3.g3. I used to think that this was a slow positional line, but this video shows it can be very aggressive and exciting. The fact that white can choose between flank attacks or central play gives the opening a lot of flexibility.
Thanks! Ya it honestly fits with all styles of play, breaking through the center or going aggressively after the king... white can also go for more of a positional approach and simply play d3 without f4 and play more of a quiet game. I personally am more of an aggressive player but for those that want to be more cautious it totally works. Another advantage of this opening is that it's positionally sound even when attacking, this is not necessarily true for all chess openings, like the King's Gambit for example.
I saw this after your Vienna Gambit. They both look fun and dynamic, yet, at the start, look tame. It an excellent force-meets-fraud deceiver. Thanks, Solomon.
I just watched it once it’s wonderful. I’d like to ask you a few questions 1. Would you do a chessable course on this or would you mind if I upload a chessable course with your recommended lines, and question #2. How did you get you graphic design for your page situated so nicely I mean I just keep looking at it like wow it’s really nice what program do you use for your chess board and channel page graphics ?
Thanks! Ya I want to make another Vienna Game video soon which gives that Bc4 option - I've covered Vienna Gambit with f4 already but there's more options than g3. That being said, I personally really like g3 and I'm glad you liked it - let me know how it goes!
That's a great question! Nd5 is a good move which attacks the bishop and it performs really well. If Ba5, for example, we can play Qg4 and then after g6 we can continue with b4 followed by a4 or Qf3 or Qg3 and white has a nice game to work with there.
For a long time I was baffled at what the point of b4 (at 3:13) driving the Bishop to b6 was. I just realized it simply gains space on the queenside. Duh!
At 1:30 why not play Na4? Get rid of that pesky bishop aiming at your king. It's not a bad bishop because it's outside of the pawn chain, right? Isn't it better - even if trading minor pieces tends ultimately toward a more drawish or less-attack-y game?
I just played this tonight OTB in a classical tournament. (I played Na4 after Nc6, like you describe at 7:18.) I beat someone rated 1740! (I'm ~1500.) Thanks for this great video.
Both of these are great options! I think in this video I talked about g3 but Bc4 and/or f4 are great options especially depending on what the opponent plays. If 2. ...Nf6, 3. f4 is a fantastic option for the white side. What do you think?
What about 2. knight C6 instead of knight F6? Very common at my level ~1500 Is it still a Vienna game? I think most prefer the Vienna Gambit after knight F6. I'm lacking a clear cut plan against knight C6.
Any lines I should study after black goes knight to C6 on move 3? I want to play bishop to C4 but that makes my pawn to G3 on move 3 look really stupid.
Hey brotha! Good question man. I think after a move like Nc6 we can just develop like normal by playing Bg2, Nge2, 0-0, maybe h3 somewhere in there, and then soon make a d4 or f4 (f4 is my favorite) push. By playing Nc6, black isn't putting any pressure on d5, and it's gonna be a lot harder for them to play this anytime soon especially after we just played Bg2 attacking that square with a knight, pawn, and bishop. Hope this helps!
@@TheChessGiant that’s very helpful, thank you! I was worried about playing into something that black wanted, not realizing that NC6 is just not a great response.
Of course man! Always feel free to send in any chess questions that you have at all. Ya it's not a terrible move or blunder obviously, just not anything that gives white any problems really
Thanks Solomon, very interesting. I have a simple question: On move 1 what happens if the opponent plays D5? Do we just take it and get on with the opening as usual with the fianchetto and NGE2 line?
d5 instead of e5 I'm assuming? Ya that's a lot of different things that we can do against that. The main line is to take on d5 and then play Nc3 (kicking that queen around) followed by Nf3 and solid development. I personally like playing the Lizard Attack though, I will drop a link below which transposes into the Lizard Attack and idk you might like it. No pressure, just in case you want to check it out. Lizard Attack Agianst d5: th-cam.com/video/lQ0RPFR5dnA/w-d-xo.html (go to 4:41 once you click on link - it's a move order difference but gets you to same spot as if you played e4 and then nc3 against d5)
Ok. Thanks! I'll study up on it. I normally play the KIA and want to start E4. If Black plays D5, then my original idea was d4xd5 then transpose to the Vienna game but maybe I can just go straight for the Lizzard instead.
Great question Jonathan! So ya if we see this move we can simply capture the queen off with ours, and then once the pawn takes our queen we can capture that rook on b8. Hope this helps!

Much more in depth study of the vienna than any other video ive seen. Ill definitely be back for more.
Super glad to hear you got something out of it Miles! Let me know if there's any other chess openings that you'd want to see!
Very different video compared to GothamChess, nevertheless very interesting. Thx
Yah Rozmans video was about Vienna gambit and the line explained in this video is known as Modern Vienna system
I usually played the Vienna gambit, but g3 looks so interesting as well. Great video.
Awesome video. I would love to see a part 2 based on 2...nc6
Great idea Jacob thanks for the recommendation, and Merry Christmas!
Another great video beautifully explained please keep up the good work.
Thanks Gregory, and Merry Christmas!
Great video hard to find info on the g3 line thanks bro !! much appreciate :))
No problem Joshua, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
I love your opening videos! 👍
Thanks for that! I'm glad you are liking them and nice choice with the Vienna Game!
Thanks for sharing instructive video on the vienna game chess opening.
Thanks Edmund, appreciate you!

No problem Alan! Ya I feel like the Vienna Game is more dangerous than it looks
I've just found your channel. It's great, thank you 🙂
Thank you Joseph! Always feel free to send me any chess related questions or videos you’d want to see!
Wow amazing video! Can we get the PGNs?
Appreciate this video, great content.
Thank you!
Nice content. I usually play the viena gambit line, but this line can be very exciting.
Thanks Adrian! And nice, both are pretty fun!
Awesome video! I simply love this, sometimes I struggle when opponent goes for opposite side castling and attacks my king with his pawns.
Thanks! I appreciate that! And ya I think I just responded to another comment you made about this. Let me know your thoughts on it.
Thank you for the video I really appreciate your work man I’m learning a lot!

Thanks Shah!
Really enjoying your tutorials. Thank you! You deserve far more subs!👍🏻
Thank you brotha. Truly humbled. More content on the way!
What a wonderful vedeo on the Vienna Game...
Excellent video. I've been playing 3. f4 or bishop c4, but I might start incorporating g6 into my play. Looks pretty nasty. Thanks!

Hi, very nice and instructive. What line can go after 2...Bb4?

@@TheChessGiant Thanks. I will try if I feel comfortable!

Yessir! Space = Time. And Time is always good in chess!
at the 0:50 mark of the video, after black plays 2. Nf6, would 3. f4 (immediate Vienna gambit) be a possibility? (rather than 3. g3)
Totally John! That’s actually one of our upcoming videos!
Could you do a video on the Vienna Stanley variation sometime please. It is a really common variation, which hasn't been covered much!

Is it still a Vienna game?
I think most prefer the Vienna Gambit after knight F6. I'm lacking a clear cut plan against knight C6.
Yep it is still the Vienna Game! Ya against Nc6 we can play Bc4 and d3 or g3 Nge2 and 0-0 and white has a playable game there. Hope this helps!
What on Earth are our Grand prix attack type fashion pieces up to? Vroom.
Only NASCAR vibes out here man
Any lines I should study after black goes knight to C6 on move 3? I want to play bishop to C4 but that makes my pawn to G3 on move 3 look really stupid.

@@TheChessGiant great idea. thx
1:50 *Castle King side*
can you explain in short what the whole idea is?
This opnening is very flexible. You can used this line against Sicilian Player..
Hey Renie, well said! Yes this is very similar to a Grand Prix Attack!
good Solomon
this system is a bruh moment the whole time
LOL
