Been Rocking the 1280Ts for a few years as my desktop speakers and haven't been happier. Have them hooked up to a Topping D10 DAC and Liquid Spark and they sound great and for $100 USD, you really can't go wrong.
I have never heard a pair of bookshelf sized speakers image as well as these Edifiers image, They sit on my desk with 36 inches between them. I just cannot believe how good they sound. I don't just listen to music with these. I actually study the music as outputted by them. The soundstage is just amazing. I now use them to study the music. They now serve as a reference for my main listening room where I spend a lot of time dealing with speaker placement. That has been a challenge in itself as I now know what i'm listening for. I still haven't been able to emulate the soundstage these provide. It's just simply mind boggling. I highly recomment these Edifier speakers.
I have the Edifier R1700DB that you already reviewed years ago, Zeos. The ones with rosewood on the sides and slightly slanted up build. Rocking them 4 years now. They are amazing. Whatever DSP magic Edifier puts in their speakers is incredible. Sure, it is not the top end, but it's such good value. It's the same with 1280. Put those on the desk or in the kitchen or whatever. They have Bluetooth. So easy and very much good enough. Thumbs up.
Yeah if I was aware of those, I would've grabbed them instead of the 1280's, but I only stumbled across the 1280's by looking specifically for the Swans D100's....but.... I'm not angry, they sound phenomenal and worked for my needs, even thought about buying a second set for my truck to finally get "full rich" sound which is next to impossible with door or cab speakers (have amped Infinity Kappas in 6.5" front and 6.5" rear in custom pods, insulated, damped, and sound deadened, and while good, they don't get that thick full sound I'd like, even running a Sundown SA-8V3 entirely too highly crossed over for it's recommended crossover to try to get some low to higher bass back 😅)
Had these before the Edifier R1700BT and after those the S2000MKIII and was very impressed with the price to quality ration. I got them before the price went up and they are just excellent budget speakers. The only thing a bit lacking but was not non-existing was bass. Nice to watch you review them, they bring back good memories.
Glad you're finally reviewing these. Great for entry level audio equipment. I'd still say it's easily worth it to pay $126 for the renewed RB42's instead though
Edifier Rocks...!!! I understand that the hi-fi snobs will poo-paw Edifier as an option, but I say "Au contrare mon frere...!!!" It's all relative to each person's proclivities... I'm running the Edifier S360DB 2.1 speaker system, with a Little Dot MkII hybrid tube pre-amp, along with an AudioQuest Cobalt Dragonfly DAC and I am totally satisfied/happy with the sound quality... Admittedly, I've always been a 2.1 guy versus a 3-way speaker, but when talking about price-to-performance blah-blah-blah, you can't beat Edifier or Swan for sonic satisfaction...!!! If you're not feeling it, oh well, take another hit and save all that money not spent on new equipment...!!!
I have Klipch RP-600m II connected to a Yamaha A-S701 and those little devils R1280T. Edifier 1280T always amazed me, and made me question performance of much more expensive stuff.
Have them on my computer desk for a couple years and combined them with Topping L30 for the output switch on the front that allows seemless switch between speakers and headphones. I really like them
This is the review i was hoping for. I see them on the shelf at work at best buy and I didn't really know anything about them, I may start recommending them more often. Started getting in the jbl 104bt's on the shelf and I've overlooked the edifiers
Update: I bought and tried these out today for my tv (honestly fuck soundbars, phantom channels are still better than soundbars, fight me) and they actually sound more like a 300 dollar set..I got them for like 80 bucks. What a great deal. I need to listen to you more Z. Swans Os10s up next!
No yeah that little 3d soundstage button is fun, not particularly good for most things, but it’s fun for sure! AAANND these edifiers are some of the only cheap GOOD speakers that they bring to my country, other good speakers start at around 2000 usd and the rest are the consumer brand Bluetooth speakers or the cheap af computer speakers.
I had the 1700BT and now have the R1000t4 (best $35 speakers ever?) The bass issue is solved by stuffing a sock or cloth in the port. You still get bass but removes the "boom" most of these speakers have
I got a pair of these for my room last week; for their size and for the price ($100) they are amazing! I popped in Jurassic Park and it actually pulled off the t rex scene, i felt a little bit of the bass and everything was clear. And apparently you just have to bring down to small peaks and make them very much flat according to ASR's measurements. ❤❤❤ Ah! I love you Edifier!
I have the 2000db as my computer speakers for about 4 years now, they are amazing and i feel no need to upgrade and no need to add a subwoofer (they have no sub out but on a PC its easy to add a sub regardless).
my stepdad had these for a while. they are the epitome of "fine" (to me, Elac Debut B6.2's are that but i digress). they sound like wet farts with the bass cranked all the way up, which he did while listening to live concerts recorded on phones.
you should review the R1855DB. between the R1700BT, it has better dynamics, more open and better bass. You really start noticing the difference between those two imo.
Currently I have the OS-10, they look damm good. In my particularity case sounds georgeous at lower-mid volume, but at mid-high volume the bass it's too much and have distortion. I have it 3" close the wall, sadly I cant have it more far from the wall. Did you reccomend swap to the R1280DBs?
I have the Edifier 1280db, great speakers for their price, I have them in a small living room connected to the TV with optical, music and movies sound great.
I bought a pair of the black r1280db for just 30 euro! They look like new. The bass is impressive, much more bass than the edifier s880db. The s880db sound clearer though, but there's something about the s1280 sound that's just pleasant to listen too, make sure to turn the treble all the way open for more clarity.
I'm listening to this on the Edifier R1850DB and they sound amazing with a Subwoofer - I have the R1280T locked in my Closet (which I blew the Left Channel Twetter - than I got the R1280Ts and blew the Left Channel Twetter... again! I don't know what to say about the R12**** series, but my R1850DBs still holding up after a couple of LOUD listening sessions. I saw his review on the R1700Ts, I also got mine running through a $70 DAC/Headphone Amp that I use to output audio from my TV/Blu-ray/PC to Headphones if I want.
desktop computer speakers the EDIFIER MR4 are on for 135 (Canadian ) 97 ( US ) or the SWAN OS 10's 234 ( Canadian ) 168 ( US ) which do you think is the better set up ? also the EDIFIER 1850DB with sub ? or these the R1700BTS with T5 sub ? i can not decide please help lol thx cheers from Canada
The 1280DBS is the better speaker if you prefer neutral sound with no over emphasis towards a particular frequency. It's the best budget audiophile speakers for a balanced sound, well worth the price range, especially if you using to connect to a turntable for Vinyl listening...
Awesome review Z. Would just like to ask since I am quite thorn between the R1280DB and the MR4 after watching both of your vids for the two. What would you recommend for my use case? I will just be using them as a speaker for my computer with no DAC or any kinds just directly into my pc's motherboard I/O . My pc does have an optical port and I would also like to be able to keep my headphones plugged in so if ever want to switch to my headphones when I need to do comms and when I do livestream.

Have you ever had a chance to try out the Edifier R2850DB 3-Way Active Speakers? I've been thinking of trying them out but I'm looking for an honest review and frankly you are one of the few people on the internet I think still give an intelligent and honest review when it comes to audio equipment. thx.
Now I'm torn between the 1280DBs and the MR4 for my kitchen. I have the R980T in there now which have done well for four or five years but have inconsistent bass output (I listen mostly to Drumfunk, Neurofunk, Techstep, Skullstep D&B with low bass content). The R980T drop off quick after 70Hz. I had the R1600TIII previously which put out lower bass (30Hz) but it sounded as musical as my phone on vibrate. The R120DBs go down to 51Hz which should suffice plus I can use the optical input from my xDuoo X10 on shuffle... Interestingly I put some Creative T20 Series 1s in there and they put out impressive amounts of musical sounding bass all the way down to 35Hz, so why Edifier couldn't get get the R1600TIIIs to sound good down at 30Hz who knows. Unfortunately other than the bass which filled the room, the T20s didn't really project much so they didn't stay. Maybe I'll get both the R1280DBs and the 60Hz MR4s and return the one I don't like

I miss my Swan's. Will keep these in mind in case I want something more "musical" beside whats coming, and the shop I got the Swans from don't have them 😂
So stupid question - I'm not a home theater guy. I want to grab a set and hook them up to a crappy old 1080p TV in my bedroom. Do these or the swans just take a straight rca or coax/etc from the TV and then split it to the other channel with the speaker wire?
I have the R1280DB's for the BT and optical.... they're fantastic for their size and price, and damnit Zeos, I don't think they're hideous 😖😅 (edit: with the grills on of course 🤣) They're really good, the tonality of them, being so simple, small, and cheap, is ridiculous... I literally thought about buying another set and throwing them behind the seat of my truck 🤣 I was trying to buy the Swans D100's but for weeks and months they refused to come back into stock anywhere, including Swans/HiVi site, so I reluctantly bought these and while nowhere near as pretty, they're damn good
I was able to score a aet of the swans - they're insane for the price, almost as good, minus the bass, as my massive old kenwood unpowered floor speakers - what similarly budget powered subwoofer would you recommend to go with the os10's? Just something from dayton? Also would love to see reviews of more budget priced floor tower speakers, id like to eventually replace my old free kenwoods, but bookshelves dont do well in my large open kitchen/living room layout with 12ft ceilings.
Zeos. How do these compare with the Swans M10? I am using 2.1 Swans M10 which I'd change with these if they're markedly better. The subwoofer takes more space on my desk than I'd like. Unfortunately OS-10 is priced double the R1280T in my country.
😂 I didn't buy the swans the first time. But they were available when I went to buy a monitor (as I smartly put them on a wishlist to keep tabs) So I got em coming. Not even sure what i'm gonna do with em.
zeos, can u help me to choose, pick this one or MR 4 ? which one do you prefer ? sadly swan os 10 it's more than twice the price of those 2 on my country...
Thanks for the reply zeos 😁, i rewatch your mr 4 review, i guess i lean on more toward accurate style, and i can use my cheap subwoofer (learn how to do it from your video too ) to add the boom boom
I also love those more. I had the R1280T too, I wasn't that impressed with them. Currently I have the R1380DB on my desk and they are great for movies and casually listening to music. I also used Edifier MR4, JBL LSR305 and Mackie MR624 (currently in living room). Still for everyday usage on my desk the R1380DB is great. Not that precise as the JBL, not that fabulous even on low volumes as the MR624 but it has very pleasant sound and much nicer look than the R1280T.
@@ZReviews thanks for reply!🙏🏻 I own mr4 and use it with audio interface from stein berg, playing music via Tidal and they're really great. I've never tried R1280, but got a lot of idea by your video. Nevertheless, thanks for making videos, I love your content!

@@ZReviews no, YT really stepped their game up when it comes to audio library in the last couple of years, was also ignoring them completely and deemed irrelevant, but lately they put out good stuff, weekly. you can find acoustic stuff, classics, all sorts of genres
@@ZReviews You have done the bookshelf though FH-65B if that don't give you a flash from the past but these speakers are a ported design. PL -980 are a 3-Way Tower Speaker with a Dual Active 8” Woofers, Dual Passive 8” Woofers, 5″ Mid & 6 1/2” Horn Tweeter.
42 Watts (maybe) being 21 x 21 = divided between the tweeter and bass = nothing really. Well being ~100$ range so probably fine for the money or for garage / background noise.
They are surprisingly engaging, punchy, clear with a good sound stage. They also have more than enough power to fill a good sized room. Perfectly enjoyable to listen to. My other system in the house is far more expensive but I don't find myself critising these little Edfiers, in fact I find myself wondering how they produce the sound that they do.
r12dbs fucks with digital, but optical ports are such frail little shits i already broke the door on mine not even a year in. oh well, still sounds amazing over RCA.
@@azmiamin4801 So this is the TS model. I didn't even knew the TS model existed. Interesting, good eye! If its the same as on DBS, its a simple 3.5mm sub out. Works nice with Edifier T5 sub.
Edifier needs a lot of volume to sound good. They fail spectacularly in the living room. That + v shaped & small scale sound made them dead to me. Had the R1850db and returned it. Cons: - Need to be played loud, almost uncomfortably loud to sound "good". (Never quite satisfying, thin mids, flat hazy soundstage, not much base is a no go.) - Thin mids. They are quite V shaped. (Base is undefined. Congested.) On average listening levels 70-75db (average not peaks) they sound small and thin, tin box comes to mind. Heavy colouring. (Cheap "old" Sony ... soundbar sounded better.) - Poor vertical dispersion/Directivity issues. (You need to be at eye level with the speaker for them to sound ... Well, still V shaped.) Other speakers loss some of the highs when off axis, but didn't suffer from massive sound degradations. These sounded muffled. (Possibly as an outcome of poor mids. If off axis, V shaped is / shape... 🤦♂️).

i dont know man, might just be your living room or some shit mine sounds insane in the living room, spaced out at the recommended amount in an entertainment center. though it definitely shines at louder levels.

Swan OS10 cost twice 1280db here in Indonesia. 1280db is around US $82. Is it worth to get the Swan instead?
great review
r1855db next please ? :), i am planning to get it with the t5 sub
which is better, this or the 1700bt?, just checked and in my country they are about the same price
I have the R1280T. They're fine. Cut back on the caffeine about 8 cups per day and follow up with your therapist.
I like my Edifier MR4s because of the TRS option.
Compared to the Micca PB42X?
apparently the DBs has a subwoofer out in addition to the extra inputs of the DB vs the T
Using Edifier S351DB here~
Zeos. How do these compare with the Swans M10?
I am using 2.1 Swans M10 which I'd change with these if they're markedly better.
The subwoofer takes more space on my desk than I'd like.
Unfortunately OS-10 is priced double the R1280T in my country.
M10 with the sub? bass on the Swans obv
Looks like I'm saving a hundred bucks then. Thanks Zeos
Hey there , I have edifier t5 that sub, can I expect similar quality in those two speakers?(I don't meant sub frequency, but overal sound quality )
What is a good value with sub output? Thanks.
The klipsch Sevens and klipsch Nines are GAME CHANGERS
Still have my 1700bt's... All I ever need, because I mainly use headphones. Great for indoor exercice's though xD
Any intention to review the 1700BTS?
Just bought the s2000mkiii new for $400 aud. Cant wait till they arrive
I'm from eastern Europe, and yeah getting Swans here is impossible. So I'm ordering these tomorrow
Would the DROP BMR1 be considered a third competitor?
Sweet! Those would pair well with jtr ulf4000 maybe, or the axiom 80" sub(i dont think the 50" could keep up).
Definitely order some speaker wire if you get these, the included wire is super thin.
The Gauge is probably fine. Power requirements are low and loss will be minimal. but nice wire is nice
Zeos, you should try the Edifier R1855DB, they're only slightly more expensive and shit all over these with a burning passion.
😂 I didn't buy the swans the first time. But they were available when I went to buy a monitor (as I smartly put them on a wishlist to keep tabs) So I got em coming. Not even sure what i'm gonna do with em.
Blow your mind with them. Play Jisoo Flower.
zeos, can u help me to choose, pick this one or MR 4 ? which one do you prefer ?
sadly swan os 10 it's more than twice the price of those 2 on my country...
MR4 are more acccurate. These have more Boom Boom and a bit more warmth in tone.
Thanks for the reply zeos 😁,
i rewatch your mr 4 review, i guess i lean on more toward accurate style, and i can use my cheap subwoofer (learn how to do it from your video too ) to add the boom boom
I had the original pair, not bt, I used a tube preamp, and they tubed great 👍, crazy I know....
Can you do a review on Dynaudio LYD 7?
What have you got against South Africa?
the MR4 and 1280DBs are the same price at ~$130 but the OS-10's are $209 for me, which one should I pick?
MR4 are cleaner. But these have more "fun?" .. OS10 beat both but that is a high price. They are $130 for us here.
funny thing is that 1280T and 1280DB sound a little bit different. BTW why not the newer (and probably even better and nicer) 1380DB?
I also love those more. I had the R1280T too, I wasn't that impressed with them. Currently I have the R1380DB on my desk and they are great for movies and casually listening to music.
I also used Edifier MR4, JBL LSR305 and Mackie MR624 (currently in living room).
Still for everyday usage on my desk the R1380DB is great. Not that precise as the JBL, not that fabulous even on low volumes as the MR624 but it has very pleasant sound and much nicer look than the R1280T.
Had the DB version for a bit - very good, now i landed with S3000 PRO, they will stay a bit longer i think
what stands are those i want a pair
i think the looks might be highly subjective because i actually bought these over some other speakers because i liked the the look ha ha
8:41 on loop
"These are the ugliest speakers I've ever seen" I was waiting for your opinion on the looks and I'm dying 😂
please listen to the System Audio Legend 60.2 Silvebacks! ive listened to these speakers for a year now and they still blow my mind!
I love my os 10 swans lacks a bit of bass by I live in an apartment so that's ok. Man starfield is so much more fun now
What's your opinion if you were to compare it with mr 4?
MR4 more neutral. These have some fun in them.
@@ZReviews thanks for reply!🙏🏻 I own mr4 and use it with audio interface from stein berg, playing music via Tidal and they're really great. I've never tried R1280, but got a lot of idea by your video. Nevertheless, thanks for making videos, I love your content!
I know I'm really late zeos, but just in case you see this comment, these or the MR4?
One thing I'll never understand is.. shoes on in the house.
Yeah its some american sickness!! Yeah me walk around, in pee and shit and everything else. Then just walk straigth indoor, to the sofa and throw the feet up!! Its so disgusting! Footwear leaves the feet, at the door!
@@tuemose22I always forget other countries still eat off the floors. Maybe you can afford a table someday.
To be fair, he is in his basement
@@johnnygeorgopoulos4072 in europa we leave, the shoes at the door. To keep germs and shit outside. Then some have slippers, but else you walk in socks. My brain camt take, when americans. Walk straigth thr door, swing up their feet into the couch😞
@@tuemose22it’s about half and half. My house is anti shoe. Most people will say if their house is shoes on or off household and I’d say the majority is shoes off. I do kind of get grossed out by shoes on houses.
i got a set of edifiers with their 8" sub for my desk, soo good
When connected to a sub, do they stop trying to produce low end?
@@allendraughan9734 yes they do seem to aply a lowpass filter when plugged. I had a pair and decided to run sub out of a different channel on my pc soundcard so it would not mess with the monitors.
Bought mine a year ago for 99€ and now sold 70€ used. Going to get mr4s probably to replace these
would you recommend a decent bookshelf pair over a surround setup?
Depends on use case. On a desk, 2 channel is king.
thanks for the insight@@ZReviews i was choosing between a beginner tier surround setup or a midtier bookshelf set since theyre around the same price
Klipsch pro media PC speakers still made today.
you could use youtube audio library to play music without fear and we could hear more of them
What are some good tracks tho? I feel like it is just so generic.
@@ZReviews no, YT really stepped their game up when it comes to audio library in the last couple of years, was also ignoring them completely and deemed irrelevant, but lately they put out good stuff, weekly. you can find acoustic stuff, classics, all sorts of genres
You should try jbl 705p
Acoustech PL-980
$749/Each
I'm always curious are they truly worth that price
And a man that knows his speakers I would love to hear your expertise.
But then again I'm not for sure if you ever done a video on them either.
I have not @@DJMichaelMcClain
@@ZReviews You have done the bookshelf though FH-65B if that don't give you a flash from the past but these speakers are a ported design.
PL -980 are a 3-Way Tower Speaker with a Dual Active 8” Woofers, Dual Passive 8” Woofers, 5″ Mid & 6 1/2” Horn Tweeter.
Schrödinger's cat isn't intangible... What the heck?!
Im trying to choose between Mr4 for $80 or os10 for $136 right now
Analytical Vs Audiophile
42 Watts (maybe) being 21 x 21 = divided between the tweeter and bass = nothing really.
Well being ~100$ range so probably fine for the money or for garage / background noise.
The First watt is all that matters. Don't judge these by that.
Gotta agree, the 1280db/t looks ugly without the grills. Fortunately thers the r1380db
r12dbs fucks with digital, but optical ports are such frail little shits i already broke the door on mine not even a year in. oh well, still sounds amazing over RCA.

Err you forget to talk about the 3.5mm sub out
T's dont have it. DBS has it.
If you look closely at 2:21 you can see there is a 3.5mm sub out.. @@byCDMC
@@azmiamin4801 So this is the TS model. I didn't even knew the TS model existed. Interesting, good eye!
If its the same as on DBS, its a simple 3.5mm sub out. Works nice with Edifier T5 sub.
Its just a passthrough. Doesn't modify the signal.
Funny thing is you got these by accident last year and returned them lol
noooooooooooooooooooo
Edifier needs a lot of volume to sound good. They fail spectacularly in the living room.
That + v shaped & small scale sound made them dead to me.
Had the R1850db and returned it.
Cons:
- Need to be played loud, almost uncomfortably loud to sound "good". (Never quite satisfying, thin mids, flat hazy soundstage, not much base is a no go.)
- Thin mids. They are quite V shaped. (Base is undefined. Congested.) On average listening levels 70-75db (average not peaks) they sound small and thin, tin box comes to mind. Heavy colouring. (Cheap "old" Sony ... soundbar sounded better.)
- Poor vertical dispersion/Directivity issues. (You need to be at eye level with the speaker for them to sound ... Well, still V shaped.)
Other speakers loss some of the highs when off axis, but didn't suffer from massive sound degradations. These sounded muffled. (Possibly as an outcome of poor mids. If off axis, V shaped is / shape... 🤦♂️).
The 1280DBS is the better speaker if you prefer neutral sound with no over emphasis towards a particular frequency. It's the best budget audiophile speakers for a balanced sound, well worth the price range, especially if you using to connect to a turntable for Vinyl listening...
i dont know man, might just be your living room or some shit mine sounds insane in the living room, spaced out at the recommended amount in an entertainment center.
though it definitely shines at louder levels.
You think those are ugly? Just wait till you take the cover off some AR3A's.
