    Just thought of something! Maybe put a regular ol’ fire alarm in the space between the power inlet and power control unit. Humm,

    I have a Forrest River Cherokee Wolf pup about brand new. It’s a 20 20,16 FQ my inlet plug was under Recall and I did not know it. It caught on fire to a catastrophic event in my life because I lived in my RV full-time. Forrest River sent me the Recall part. That’s all they would pay for saying that I neglected going in and getting the recall done. I never received the letter, the inlet power plug that they sent me must have a power cord female going into it that straight in, not like the one that come with my trailer at an angle and a lock with threads. This is very dangerous and very confusing for a lot of people and manufacturer should be ashamed of their self stay on top of these things that’s what I’m doing now that I’ve already had damage.

      WOW WOW WOW - They should have paid for all the damage and the installation of a quality electrical inlet. So they said they sent you the recall, I would say to them "show me the records of you sending it along with the address you sent it to". So did you install the one they sent you or did you install a different kind of inlet? I'm glad you didn't get physically injured or killed when this happened.

    I am going from a pull out to the plug in! Should I reconsider leaving to a pullout power? I just bought Park Power kit that has a round inlet. What do you think of that kit? Last question, I have a fiber glass Casita. What is size and length of your screws?

    • @thetraveltrailerguy
      @thetraveltrailerguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      If everything looks good on your pull out set up, shows no wear, and is working fine I would stick with it until it needs to be changed out. How old is your trailer? I'm not familiar with the Park Power Kit but it looks like it will work. My screws were around 1 inches long because my side walls are around 1 1/4 inches thick. I suggest you take a real close look at what your wall thinness is before screwing in screws (maybe you can contact Casita to ask them or do a search online). Is this what just bought? www.park-power.com/en/p/30ARVKIT/30A-RV-Conversion-Kit

    The blue light on the Furrion which tells you when you are properly connected to power is a nice feature, but it doesn't last long unfortunately. I'm on my second one- both had the blue light stop working after about 6 months. Good product otherwise. Thanks for the video as always.

    • @thetraveltrailerguy

    Great video. We had the exact same incident and I also replaced the same square one that is sturdy and, as you said, looks more reliable. It was too bad because I just had bought my couch 1 month before it happened and I wasn't familiar with RV world. Now I am periodically checking the outlet and might replace it in a certain frequency. Also, I bought Jogoswall Automatic Fire Extinguisher, which is installed right behind the outlet just in the case of the worst scenario, in order to prevent potential fire hazard.

    • @thetraveltrailerguy
      @thetraveltrailerguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you and thank you for watching, the new power inlet I installed is much better.
      Is this the Automatic Fire Extinguisher you installed? (amazon affiliate link) amzn.to/3QWhLhm
      Yep RV's have lots of surprises but if you are handy and can fix them yourself you save lots of money by not taking it to a shop.

    Yes, those slightly loose connections of the original plug are the culprits of the plug disintegration as the looseness contributed heat at those points which baked the plastic to that state over time. Also I've found on our camper with similar connections that the screw on ring is a hassle to get tight so that the plug doesn't move when you're hooked up. I run it down considerably tighter than you did for your adapter dogbone connection, because if that plug is loose, you get the same melting situation on high load like with the AC running.

    • @thetraveltrailerguy
      @thetraveltrailerguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much Silas. Here's another option to replacing the set up that comes with the RV's that would work much better but its quite a bit more expensive.

      @@thetraveltrailerguy I think the 'smart plug' is a superior design. If I had to replace my plug, I would consider one if I can find adapter 'dog bones' to work with it like I have for my current factory installation.

    Our new 2021 Mini Lite 2104s has a square looking outside plug. I would hate to replace this plug with a newer smart plug, if NOT necessary ? What do you think ?? BTW Great video as always !

    • @thetraveltrailerguy
      @thetraveltrailerguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Take a close look at your square plug and if it looks like the one I replaced under the lid if you can see screws make sure you keep an eye on it (non marine plugs have screws showing). It may break up like the one I had and cause a electrical short, while its unlikely it could happen. I replaced mine with a Marine plug that is built much better than the stock one and I believe it will last a long time with no issues. I like the Smart Plug but believe its overkill and is pretty expensive. If I was rich I probably would have replaced ours with the smart plug. Thanks so much Ed, I apricate your comments and for watching :)
