Having some trouble grasping the pattern, i.e. when to go left over right, right over left and more importantly, when to come down and into the loops from the front or the back. Help?

Orange- Right under, Left over, Grays loop under oranges and in from front. Gray- Left under, Right over, Oranges loop OVER grays, around and out from the back. Had to watch it a couple times myself. You probably already figured it out by now but if not, I hope this helps.
