Catching a big snapper from the bricks (Part 2) back down the local for redemption

  • A couple of weeks ago I headed down the local in hope of catching a couple of reds off the bricks for tea. It was a hard day although I did let go a couple of snaps around 33cm which I could of kept for tea and then coming into that magic hour I hooked up. It was a solid red with some good head-nods but with in 10-15secs it was gone. I had been waiting all afternoon for a great fish like this to come by and it just gave me a spank.
It had bit right through my 30lb fluoro, before I started the day's fishing I was umm and arring if I should use 40lb but went for the 30 - I was regretting it after that. In the end I did get a couple to take home after dark.
After losing such a nice fish I headed back a couple weeks later for redemption and this video is how the day played out....

Awesome that's the main reason I do these vids, to inspire 👍
I run 40lb for the rocks so it can handle a bit more abrasion...

This time of year can be a bit hard at times and most times it's more about time of day. Plenty of bays to fish along east coast bays depending the winds. Best thing to do is take a walk along a few spots to see what tides to fish at what spot. Guys are picking up the odd gurnard towards Devonport to. If you get a small swell out west (under a meter) you could look at the likes of Whatipu (9pin rock) or go for a fish off the beach at Kare Kare, walk to the left of the island. Other than that you could try along Whangaparoa from Tindels bay to Army bay - you can walk lowish tide around Army bay way but get cut off over the tide so you could walk in half tide in then walk back out half tide out to low.

@@nonuman1 he's still kicking, but being older now hates getting his hair wet and likes staying home more with his slippers on and a warm hottie under the wing - especially this time of year 😁

Which would be the best time to fish, at low tide or high tide. I havn't done much fishing, just a rookie.🐟🐟🐟🐠🐠🐠

      Hi mohabatkhanmalak1161
Both tides can fish well it just comes down to the area - I use low tides to scout out my spots as you can see everything then. You can see high tide ledges and what's out in front of it. A lot of it is trial and era to know what tides work best at a spot. Most of my low tide spots are flat reefs where you can walk out and cast into a bit deeper water and high tide ledges where it fills in places that becomes deep on the high.
Each spot is different - tight lines
