It's a rocky island for sure but we passed thick forests on the ride from Chania to Heraklion. They lost a lot due to fires but still many trees.

How much per night
Somewhere in the $500 per night range depending on when you go and how long you're staying. It's a villa so we all split expenses but went in the summer when it's higher.
