    Cape Verde can be expensive to visit when traveling to the famous islands Sal and Boa Vista. Average prices for an all-inclusive holiday are $1000 for 10 days per person, often including flights when leaving from the UK or Europe, and depending on the season. The lesser-known islands are often cheaper to visit.

    Well, I called Cabo Verde during my Atlantic passage from Gibraltar to Caribbean, very nice and interesting place. In my opinion, its number “1” quality is its musical riches. You hear a Brasilian sound with Cuban flavor. Great musician and good performance…

    • @guleiro
      @guleiro 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That's because Cabo Verde and Brasil were former Portuguese colonies and they share very similar cultural features.

    • @salimerdem7544
      @salimerdem7544 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@guleiro dear guleiro, that is what I wanted to point out, the contraversy was the music was not like what you hear in Brasil, but more inclined to Cuban beats. I found that very interesting, because there must have been some culturally cross breeding at least on the musical front..

    • @guleiro
      @guleiro 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@salimerdem7544
      Yes, you are right.
      In a way on the musical sense it has been a back a fourth story in the last 400 years.
      The seeds of Brasil's musical heritage are rithms come from Africa (mostly from Angola) and Portugal.
      Cabo Verde was the crossroad that connected Europe, Africa and the Americas as every ship that wanted to reach those destinations had to stop there.
      More recently, with the advent of the radio in the early XXth century, brasilian music itself started to influence the music in Portugal and in the former portuguese colonies.
      So it has been a long history of mutual influences. The seeds came from Africa and Portugal initially but over time Brazil itself influenced others in the portuguese speaking world.
      The Cuban heritage is similar but their European roots come from Spain.
      Slightly different rithms from the portuguese.
      Indeed a very interesting history.

    • @williampolancos3673
      @williampolancos3673 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jetanimations -Big cities ….???? What do you mean ? What big city are you talking about? There is no such thing in Cape Verde. Praia is the capital, the biggest and it barely has a population of about 159,000 people. I would hardly call that a “big city.” It’s more of a big town rather than anything else.
      The whole country has 459,999 people and by most standards it’s considered a tiny place. It’s hard to believe that such a stark cultural contrast is possible despite the size of its geographical location and number of people who lives there. Sorry, perhaps I’m missing something but what you’re saying just doesn’t make too much sense

    • @jetanimations
      @jetanimations 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@williampolancos3673 I’m talking about the big tourist attractions in places like places in sal and Praia. Tourist attraction places like that are big, flashy and for me doesn’t really show how deep our culture actually goes. since my parents were from fogo, in an rural area where there were no tourist attractions, my mother showed me a lot of culture you don’t really see in the big tourist attractions.

    • @williampolancos3673
      @williampolancos3673 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jetanimations-Okay, gotcha. Now I know what you mean. Nonetheless, how many tourist attractions can there be that would distract you that much from its authentic Cape Verdean culture.
      If I visit any country the last place I would visit is an American Franchise restaurant like a McDonalds. You know what I mean? Why would I travel all the way to another part of the world spend my money and time to do something that is same or similar to what I can do back home. When in Rome do as to Romans do, and the same applies to Cape Verde. Let go see and mingle with the real people

    Although we haven't been for 2 years because of Covid, our previous 5 trips have been superb. We have Island friends on Sal and plan to go back this year. It's safe, clean and super friendly with a guaranteed climate although i cannot stress enough as inviting as the sea looks, it can be a very dangerous place. The rip currents are as bad as anywhere i've been around the World and you'll do very well to take heed of the beach flag colours, red being you don't go in at all.
    The pay the multilingual island hotel workers receive is very poor so we usually give a 2 Euro tip at breakfast and 3 at dinner. My wife takes underwear and sanitary products that she gives to the cleaners and workers, we take books for kindergartens and stationary for the teachers.
    We love Sal and its people, it really is the place to chill. Muito amor, from South London, England.

    My family has been to Cape Verde 2 times now. One in October 2019 and in November 2021. We been to Sal both times but in different hotels each time. It can be very windy sometimes. But to us from Sweden it's like a cold breeze more than wind. So when it's cold here in Sweden Cap Verde is great because it's like our summer.
    I didn't know that Cap Verde have the highest amount of goats in the world. And also the highest economy in Africa. Fun facts.

    • @sipotchitcha
      @sipotchitcha 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      we do have some greenhouse farming, I'm from Sal island (the driest one on my books) and even there there is some investment in that direction, I don't know if it would ever be possible to make it sustainable enough to make us self sufficient, i'm not an agriculture expert :|... water desalination... I think other islands have some natural water sources but it's not enough for the entire population, therefore water desalination technology isn't a foreign concept to us or something that needs to be introduced to us, it's actually our main source of "fresh" water. I hope this helps but, as I said, I don't know much about agriculture.
