  • Situated at the confines of Europe, Africa, and South America, the archipelago of Cape Verde amazes with its beauty and diversity.
From lush green valleys to yellow sandy beaches, impressive volcanoes to spectacular canyons, we invite you to discover six islands that are so different that you would never believe they belonged to the same group.
Over and above little-known landscapes, a mixed-race population completes an amazing picture with their charm and kindness, set to the rhythm of music and carnivals.
From the film: "Discovering the world - Cape Verde, the Creole Archipelagos"
    Direction: Pierre Brouwers

My first exposure was 23years ago on a flight from Dakar. Right after take off the pilot announced a fuel stop in Cape Verde. We all pulled out maps to see where this was. Sadly we couldnt leave the aircraft. I had never heard of the islands.

@@NCVV2000 Well, Sao Vicente is the one, i'd say. But it also depends on what exactly you want to see. I wouldn't worry about busy places.....anywhere you go, it's never crowded with tourists. How to get there? TAP airlines is the one everyone uses. From the US, you go to Lisbon, Portugual, and from Lisbon to either one of the main islands. However, make sure, you fly to the island where you intend to stay or it will cost you to fly from island to island. If you take the ferries (they're very cheap), you have to know the time schedules.

Overall the documentary did a fine overview of the Cape Verdean people, their culture, way of life and the differences between the islands. However why was Brava not included?? It may be the smallest island but its inhabitants are the most humble and friendliest. Brava is also the home of the great poet Eugenio Tavares and singer Armando DePina. Djabraba ‘N Ca Negabo.

Beautiful Island and people. I like that they don't sprawl between cities and everywhere, but over building can take over quickly if you perceive yourself as poor. There are such simple building supplies in America that, if shown simple natural building techniques, you could build beautiful housing (not too small nor too large) for the people. No electricity polls but using fuel operated generators would be more the thing (stay away from solar). If it is God's will for this people.

I would suggest Santiago, because its history pratically is the Cape Verde history, being the bigger one, the first to be discover, the economic, demographic and political center, with most historical sites to visit (Cidade Velha - World Heritage Site, the only one in Cape Verde/Tarrafal - "Concentration Camps" to people who oppose the portuguese colonialism/ Plateau - Historical center in the Capital (Praia)) and others beautiful places and nice people, inspite of many thing to be done and solve yet . It´s a complete island. For someone who like to have differents experiences would be great.

So I'm watching this, and I'm thinking about Japan. They've a way to cut wood so that it grows faster, doesn't deplete, contributing to errosion and a barren landscapel. It's similar to the way they've master Bonzai. It's just on a grander scale. I wonder if this could be implemented in Cabo Verde? I don't know if the kind of wood makes a difference, or not.

If you're going to call any African country poor you should explain the role
your country played in the disenfranchisement of the people and the

There is no comparison the UK anti slave campaign had huge support from the British public which bought about abolition of slavery 1834 -1838, now when was Slavery abolished in Brazil as an example, In fact what has Portugal ever made a success of when not living off others.
