Our story begins as Vox Machina, the heroes of Emon, arrive at the cavernous underground city of Kraghammer. After wiping out a grave threat to Emon’s emperor, Sovereign Uriel Tal'Dorei III, the band of adventurers has been sent on a journey by Arcanist, Allura Vysoren to find Lady Kima of Vord, a Halfling Paladin of Bahamut, who was drawn to Kraghammer upon learning of a great evil resting beneath it. The party get their bearings in the sprawling, dwarven city, meet a few of its more colorful denizens, and learn that the dwarves have been dealing with unnatural creatures spilling out of the mines in recent months. The mine’s overseer, Nostoc Greyspine, barely finishes explaining their troubles, when a pack of goblins and ogres come spilling out of the mine’s entrance, pursued by something far worse.

Good luck and enjoy!!! One tip for you if you want it. Dont feel obligated to watch the episode. Put it on in the background while you're doing something. I download one episode a day and listen to it while I'm at work. It makes the many many many many hours of content go by much quicker.

I was going to start a year ago; didn‘t understand a thing, decided Critical Role was probably still too much for me, me being an absolute beginner and all, waited and decided to try again now - started with the podcast, understood the vague picture but had trouble with the actual spoken lines, migrated to TH-cam for the subtitles and pictures of who is talking when and now I actually understand thing wohoo
I've known about CR for years, just now building it into my routine so I can finally enjoy their stories :)

I did my own thing while listening and only tabbing to the actual video when something climactic or funny was going on. Also had it playing in bed off my phone as I was falling asleep :p

This first episode of campaign 1 is not the first game session. It seems that the gang were playing D&D for fun before deciding to take it online. For the background story up to "Arrival at Kraghammer" go to Campaign 1, Episode 36 which contains an origin story during the break (at 1:36:23 in that episode); it covers the adventures of Vox Machina up to the point where Critical Role 1 begins.
This episode: Character origins begin at 1:09 and run to 12:30. This animated introduction is blurred out over some copyright issue, but the audio gives you the gist; however, there is a live-action introduction the players put together that appears at the beginning of the episodes from 50 on.
Story Summary begins at 17:51, game begins at 20:00. Break at 1:31:50, game resumes at 1:43:49 and runs to 3:02:36.
I give these time markings for all the other episodes as well. Please make comments there, too, so those threads stay near the top for people to use. Thanks.
1/16/23 - Well, it's taken me two years, but I've finally watched and time stamped all 115 episodes of Campaign 1! I've gone through and checked and my comments are all still available. You may have to Sort the comments by "newest first" rather than "top comments" to find them, though. Now, Enjoy the story of Vox Machina!

i just finished C2, and am bridging the gap to C3 with this here.

The reason that the intro scene was blurred is because they used other artists and companies artwork and not their own.
They didn't say who it was but one/few(can't remember how many) wanted royalty fees paid to them every time they aired said artwork/intro.
They felt it was best to blur what they had and they eventually got rid of the lengthy character intro all together.
They ended up replacing it with their own much shorter live action version instead.

I'm an hour into the episode and I wonder if there was a campaign before this? I hear all there references like the Grog's persuasion check on barbarian goliaths, the ox in the bag of holding and the troll dick so far, and because of those references it feels like I missed something, it feels incomplete. Do you know if there's anything to find that can be watched or did they just play a campaign previous to this one off cam?

Somehow, through shorts and the algorithm, I stumbled upon Critcal Role's videos and started watching Campaign 3. I got to Episode 17 before deciding that I really need more backstory then just having watched the animated Vox Machina show a year or more ago now. So here I am, at Episode 1 of Campaign 1, very surprisingly, not alone! That's awesome and I hope everyone else enjoys every episode as much as I do!
I love all the folks leaving comments to start their critical role or Vox Machina journeys!! So I figured I might as well leave my mark here as well, for history and a love of these awesome idiots. Just finished the Mighty Nein, still teary, and ready to meet Vox Machina finally!

Then I quickly jumped in and watched all of C2 and I am currently caught up on C3! I am now taking the leap into C1! I am so excited for this journey so many of you are embarking on as well! @@akaiyukihana If I remember correctly, early on they used fan art without licensing it. They were such a small show they didn't think much of it. As they got bigger they had to be more careful and they had to blur out things they had used improperly.

Matt was sued directly by one of the artists who's work was used in the intro character animations. Matt mistakenly misused copyrighted art and was confronted by a lawyer instead of the artist directly. He paid a big out of pocket expense due to this and had all of the videos blurred.
This is also why they block all logos in campaign 2 and why they refrain from mentioning brand names.
i knew these campaigns were long, but i had no idea there was THIS much content! i’m gonna be here for… quite a while
Just finished Campaign 1. So many unforgetable moments, if you are thinking of starting this, you are in it for it, and don't worry, it's gonna get only better and better from a technical standpoint.

So I found Campaign 1 about a year ago....since then I've consumed voraciously all 3 campaigns, much of Candela Obscura, and many of the 1Shots plus Ex:UNL and Calamity....and now I'm back here to start it all over 😊. I've watched and played a lot of D&D but this hits me in all the feels 💗. Love all the cast & critters. Thank you for enlightening my life!

@@savary5050 I once tried to make the subtitles for a 7 minute long video. After 1 hour I wasn't even halfway through it...and didn't even realise that much time had passed. So I can't even imagine how long must that have taken them to make these subtitles. Kudos to the team

@@savary5050 I used to do subtitles for a youtuber (unpaid... I just did it because I liked the content and the creator) and I probably did about an hour of accumulative subtitles and it honestly wasn't too bad. The hardest part is making sure everything is timed correctly. TH-cam has since disabled community subtitles and I hate them for it because there was no reason to remove it (keep in mind, the creator has to accept the subtitles).
They keep making reference to previous events is this the first campaign or not because I’m confused
