I think it helps that the people around this table (barring one obvious outlier) are like... the closest of close friends. You can regularly see the genuine care each of them has for each other. It helps because that leaks into their characters and makes the bonds feel that much stronger. I cant wait til after episode 27. I feel that from that point on, their connection will only get stronger.
I'd like to think that during every rest they've had during the campaign, Vox Machine was secretly playing a DnD-esque game with a ghost friend who never spoke outside of the games. That they were all rolplaying as successful voice actors living their daily lives...
Every. Single. Time. Scanlan breaks into song and the whole crew just kinda hops into it is just amazing and I can't stop myself from breaking into the hugest grin.
I love how the fact that even though Percy always tells everyone his last name, nobody actually knows it because he says it so fast actually ends up being a major plot point
@@JohannesJ7539 I know you shouldn't mix water with acid, because it heats up a lot, but putting acid in water will neutralize safely to some extent, as far as I know. Not that I'm an expert, I've only taken a few chemistry classes. Considering Percy said it would take a few minutes to take affect, and he specifically mentioned sulfuric acid, it would have to be diluted (at least to a certain degree) and grog would only have a few drops on his hands. The bucket is seemingly large enough, as it fit both of grogs goliath sized hands so there would be enough water to neutralize it and absorb the heat. Not that the dm and percy are going to think about all the possible outcomes at the table, but still, something to consider.
@@LeJazzPanda When you put water in sulfuric acid it boils, if you get sulfuric acid on your hands you still want to wash it with water with only a few drops compared to liters of water, the water will absorb the heat. A lot of people I don't think understand the full extent to how acid reacts with water, diluting acid by mixing it into water is a great way to make it less dangerous, I have yet to see a safety manual warning against rinsing acid off, even sulfuric, with water.

I scrolled down a bit and I'm surprised I haven't seen any comments about Travis' assist to Taliesin at about 3:31:43 where, a minute or two before, Percy had been cut off while about to make a remark about slaying the illithid and betrayal. He gets accidentally cut off by Matt and trails off without finishing, but Travis waits for an opening to re-insert the comment and let Percy finish his remark. That is so fucking outstanding. What a great player.

Alex Jobe incorrect he lets them get away with stuff a lot more than DM’s I’ve played with but that should have been stated if they wanted gold for it.
Matt could have blammo'ed the second team (the one that tracked the Rackshasa) because they didn't sign the contract. They show up after the battle, and wind up in more trouble than before. But they had guests, and putting them in jail would have been messy.

They neither saw through Percy's disguise (The brairwoods only figure out who Percy is after he takes off the hat), and they didn't see Vax while he was invisible (Invisibility ended before Vax entered their room.) However, Lord briarwoods comment spells out vampire in a bright flashing neon sign. Could be he's bysexual, but honestly the implied super strength and natural charm screams vampywamps.

Grog: "Maybe I dont know...Lets say I assume" - Great moment, I love how you can see true anger in Travis's eyes, lets just hope Grog isn't Vax's only hope next episode.
I love how Matt is trying so hard to let Grog keep his precious beard, everyone's begging him not to, but Liam just won't leave it alone! For that moment, Vax was truly Chaotic Evil.
@@azarinevil Wouldn't that be more neutral or lawful evil? Ruining the beard in a weird horrible way like Liam did is more chaotic than just ruining his hopes entirely. As is, it can be fixed, but it is still ruined. It is lawful evil that is the calculating one, isn't it? Though shaving off the whole beard, and only putting ointment on half would still be pretty chaotic, because then he wouldn't know until he grew it out again. That being said, the belt is literally growing a beard on a hairless race, so there is no guarantee any ointment would have any effect to begin with. So with that in mind, just shaving half of is the more safer option for the chaotic evil
@@dig8634 Vax's actions were in line with chaotic neutral, as he did it for entertainment rather than true malice. Lawful Evil and Neutral Evil can be calculating in their approaches. LE has strict codes or systems involved, best represented by devils. They always have to have a reason that benefits their greater agenda/status or be told to do it by a higher ranked individual. NE are the ones who do what they can get away with, they tend to be slightly more calculating because they pick their moments. Chaotic Evil are just the worst, they can't help but do the worst possible version of any evil act. For them they don't shave half a beard as a joke, they'd be compelled to do it all in a way that truly destroys the person.. and then try to murder them. CE are the villains that don't just kill your family, they'd enjoy making it horrifyingly painful while they force you to watch, before doing the same to you.. that's their idea of humor.
@@azarinevil I get you, I was never arguing that Vax was acting within the evil alignment, and I guess I was misunderstanding the LE alignment, but I still think leaving hope of a glorious beard, only to later reveal that he can never grow a full beard is the greater evil. Completely ruining all chances of growing a beard is too final, crushing all hope in an instant is too swift for chaotic evil. Have to drag it out more. Completely ruining the beard, by cutting off half, is a good first step for a CE, only to destroy it again when it grows out again (this of course hinges on the CE not being a murderhobo, and instead following the party)

Taliesin's role playing is flawless. So far (usually when exploring someone's backstory) the cast has usually had an awkward time, like pike when she was explaining what she was doing before she joined the groupe in the beginning, keyleth with the ashari and even vex and vax just sometimes say things about their family that are ridiculous in a really unrealistic way, but percy is totally real, I totally feel like it actually happened to him. (because it did) Thank you Taliesin.
I felt bad for him at first because the rest of the crew are obviously setting him up to get him to tell the story, and it seems like he's having trouble coming up with something at first. But I think he was just playing at being guarded and not forthcoming, because it all comes together really nicely by the end of his story and monologue. And he does clearly check his notes a bit so I think the backstory he tells was at least somewhat fleshed out beforehand.

To be honest, watching this I always thought they were ACUALLY related
...And it stuck! So many "twins" moments in campaign 3 now they're tablemates again.
@@grantpflum6844 Liam and Laura are siblings in the exact same way that Liam and Sam are married: On a spiritual level, and acknowledged as such by all the actual spouses involved. :)

@@samuelraymond5852 some acids shouldn't be mixed with water.

I love how Matt is trying so hard to let Grog keep his precious beard, everyone's begging him not to, but Liam just won't leave it alone!
For that moment, Vax was truly Chaotic Evil.
Chaotic Evil would have shaved the whole beard along with putting on an ointment so he could never grow one ever again.
Chaotic Neutral imo not really evil

@@Evalyne sometimes they are sooo far down
From the second Mercer started describing the Briarwoods, Taliesin's face was silently screaming "JENGA!"
"No additional funds as no scalps were collected."
The whole time they were down there in the Underdark, I kept thinking, "Aren't they going to take the scalps? They were promised extra for the scalps!"
you know, I love CR, but they are the only adventuring party I have ever seen forget such big payouts. If I tell my PC's a deal. They will remember the name of the person who gave it to them and the amount promised right down to the copper piece.
Shane Wolf yeah, I have a sheet that lists every transaction and deal I ever make in a campaign. It usually becomes a packet, but gotta keep a good ledger
My Triton Ranger is currently part of an adventuring party, and we are currently hunting gnolls for 25 gold an ear, and 500 gold for the head of the Gnoll leader. More difficult than it sounds, because these gnolls can go into a super powered state where their bites deal 1d8 damage and will drain the vitality from the target. Yeah, not fun.
CountryMusicMann To be completely fair, the by-and-large _vast_ majority of the kills they made wound up slagged by lava, and a number of those that weren’t, were under a time crunch where scalping the bodies was less than an option...
@@alecLogan
But they didn't even remember. They never paid enough attention to the carving part of the deal. The moment they left the room of that dwarven leader, they forgot about the scalps entirely.
"High roles startle him." Oh, sweet, naive Taliesin from 5 years ago. Soon, you'll be able to summon Natural 20s on command.
I think it's hilarious that he rolls best in the story when the demon he made a pact with starts to manifest, as if Taliesin truly made a deal with the devil.
@@samuelstensgaard4828 Well in reality, a demon would not hold a candle to the ancient eldritch being that is Taliesin Jaffe
@@samuelstensgaard4828 but in the end its not a funny deal with the devil but simply a lame unbalanced dice...
@@Darksnakemrniceguy They checked that die, it was balanced fine. After it rolled so many 20s they had it weighed and stuff. I think I remember them talking about it at some point.
@@toreyjones5715 no, they haven't checked the snitch, can't balance check a metal dice, unless you roll it 10000+ times, the exact same way each time, and keep track of the stats.
They only ever talked about checking other dice made of plastic.
*Percy:* I call it Diplomacy.

Omg you're right!!!
Red Wedding? No, Crimson Diplomacy
Moment that made me laugh so much

*After Vax shaves off half of Grog's new pristine beard*
Laura: Why are you so evil?
Liam: Why did he trip me and make me eat shit two months ago?
*Everyone else* OHHHHHHH
Travis *with a darkening face* : Appetiser of things to come, my friend.
*While Matt gives some fluff, Sam turns to Orion* : Remember when we hated each other?
*Orion in the background* : Yeah!...and we just made up!
Matt: ...Grog, you come to consciousness, stretch, reach up to rub-- half a beard.
Travis: Half. A beard? Like, just one side of my face?
Matt: Just one side of your face.
Travis: I say in a low, guttural growl--
Liam: You have no idea it was me.
Travis: --Vax.
Liam: No! What? No.
Travis: I didn't have to wake up to know it was you, motherfucker.
Liam: Make an intelligence check! Make him...Make him make an intelligence check!
Marisha: We all know it was you.
Travis: I reach down, I find a dark stone on the ground, and I go over to the bare side of my face and I draw a very beautiful moustache to complete the other half of it.
Matt: Alrighty.
Liam *annoyed* : He is dumb as a post. Why does he know--
Travis *very pissed and matter-of-factually* : Because you're the *only* fffffucking *idiot* stupid enough to do that!
Liam: Magic is mysterious! Why couldn't you grow half a beard due to magic?
Laura: But he's already grown for days--
Travis: Maybe. Maybe I don't know. Let's say I *assume* *He looks to Liam*
*Everyone gets good laughs*
Armsmaster 19 it’s not “when he ate a turd.... yeah a crit” it’s “Remember when we hated each other?” “...and we just made up!”

To be honest, at the revelation that the last chamber was unnamed, I had the impression that perhaps the implication left unsaid was that it was for Percy himself once his revenge was meted out, as if at the point of the gun's crafting he had nothing else to live for.
@claygardiner7543 I had thought that too, but apparently they planned that it would just restart and have a new list of people to kill, like a never-ending cycle. Honestly can't tell which outcome would be sadder
So, the party finally realizes that they didn't take a single scalp while in the Underdark, which was what I was really bugged by.
Yeah the fucked up on that one and I thought about it every single ko
"Very strict 5 minute break"
20 minutes later...
"Welcome back!"
Every episode....
And grog only looked at dm table once
I've come to know then as Yog-minutes but apparently Critical Role beat them to it.
Tiberius telling Vax that he needed to chill is like that grim foreshadowing before a tragic season finale.
Holy shit, I didn't even think about that. Tibbs really called it.
The chillest...too dark?
After this trip to Gilmore's I'm convinced Vax is a sugar baby. I respect him for it, and I would kill to see the pre-stream interactions that lead to it.
We can only hope Gilmore shows up in the pre-stream episodes of TLOVM!
I mean, he ended up paying for those daggers.... He is definitely heading in that direction
They talked about it somewhere once. IIRC Vex tried to flirt while haggling but rolled a nat 1 and then Vax saved the day by rolling a nat 20.
Their scenes in the show were hilarious. Both understanding what they got from the flirting.
Are you saying Taliesin's parents were murdered?
@@nice1068 Pretty sure he was saying Taliesin's acting and immersion in his character made the story as real to us as the audience as it was to Percy.
@@timkinney8719 it wasn’t that he had trouble coming up with something. It was that it was painful to remember. That was the vibe he was going for and it worked really well
@@dylancooper4993 It really did. I think you're absolutely right, I just kind of misinterpreted his uncertain body language and stumbling over his words a bit as improv, but I think you hit the nail on the head. Regardless, he pulls it out really well, whether it was planned or improvised, that whole part of the group's story arc is one of my favorites so far.
Sam roleplaying the dinner as Gnome is just pure GOLD. OMG I just couldnt stop laughing at his head just above the table.

Just started Critical Role recently, 2022, and never been so in love so quickly. Did a couple episodes then watched the show and I am insanely excited to witness Percy's storyline from the original campaign. Percy was by far my favorite character in season 1!
It only gets better from here. Have fun!
I haven't watched the show but I just started watching CR too! I'm so excited to see what's coming, I've heard the Briarwood arc is insane.

Taleisan is SO I character while they're talking to the briarwood. Holy shit hes good. Hes even gripping Marisha's arm at one point

@@beesokay Episode 98
Oh for sure
When Tiberius introduced himself for the THIRD TIME, I almost fell off my chair.
We need a full length duet of “Do you want to build a machine gun?” With Scanlan and Percy.
Oh Yes we really do
I burst out laughing and made my husband come over to listen to that...
Best bit of the episode
Bro lemme know idv if we need auto tune I want to make th8s
....blow apart the Briarwoooooods?"
The Scream that came out of me at Vax's betrayal was INTENSE. Grog's poor beard...
Taliesin really impressed me with how much he got into character for this one - he was literally crying at one point! That said, thanks to Matt, I imagine a lot of his nervous fidgeting later in the episode was NOT acting at all!
it means he IS hiding something... from even himself.
and my theory: the sixth name is his own, just inscribed magically that until those others are dead he cannot "die" it explains why he didn't notify the court or just Uriel so he could've been prepared
+gjaddajg You are the moron. And the moron you will be always. He was in his role. And you are in your. Pick your shit up and vanish from here thanking God i cant reach you irl.
+gjaddajg Oh, please. Just stop with all the stupid. Firstly, its not acting, they aren't trying to act; its a game. They're role playing. Try talking about when you know a thing or two about it.
If that's so, then why did you just respond? or where you trying to convince us that you didn't just use your entire vocabulary?
I loved the Jaffe/Mercer interactions at the end of the session.
"How ya doin Taliesin???"
“Alura, do you want to go on a double date sometime?”
“Alura, how do you want to do this?”
Vax letting Trinket give him bear kisses while tying bows in his fur just makes me love his character so much more 😍
Liam's Lockheed noises xD
Also, Taliesin does a little spittake when Liam/Vax grudgingly says "I suppose I should tag along..." re the proposed visit to Gilmore. xD
Travis constantly has this "this is so bullshit" look on his face when the Briarwoods talk during the feast.
Also when Orion is doing bullshit lol
"IM FROM DRACONIA!" xD he is basically a Pokemon at this point
I know I'm late to this but... Liam? Is it? Vax basically when searching for the butcher, he does his little thing, and as he doesn't get an immediate answer he let's his mates continue doing their own thing, as to not slow down their pace so much.
A lot of good players at this table. Can't wait to watch the next few years worth of content.
Vex came dangerously close to inviting the Definitely-Not-Vampires into the keep to the point where I legitimately yelled “No don’t!” out loud
If looks could kill, Percy would be the Grim Reaper.
Liam's just having such a fun time dicking around with Laura and Travis characters haha. Great guy :)
I love it when they're just hanging around as their group, you can see how the characters and the people connect
The look on Liam,Laura, and Travis' face when Percy says the briarwood s killed his family. The speed at which the facial expressions changed was impressive. Makes you truly feel the same way.
