You do a fantastic job on showing us how complaining about wearing some of today's clothing is nothing compared to days gone by; my Great Grandmother (1895-1995) & Great, Great Grandmother (1877-1969) on my Mother's side, BOTH of whom I (soon to be 63) was fortunate enough to have around, shared many a tale of how one got dressed, different occasions for different outfit etc. You never left to go out, in the city especially, without dressing well and groomed, if you could afford it and, had the patience of Job!
PriorAttire, thank you so much for this exquisite video. I love your attention to detail. Thank you also for showing us that a man in that era was capable of dressing himself with no assistance required.
I like the details in this era. The collar on the waistcoat gives subtle padding in the chest area. The stomach can be cinched by tightening the waistcoat in the back. The sleeves make the arms look bigger. Who needs a gym?
your husband is a good guy :) and fear not, there weren't any glaring errors in the coat suit, at least not to my untrained eye haha! I love these videos, keep it up
I find myself often wishing that we could have what I - at least - consider to be the perfect combination of "yesteryear" clothing and architecture, with our modern advancements (though perhaps with a good deal less "smartphone Zombie" issues...) And yes, your Lucas does, indeed, cut a fine figure in his period clothing.
A very nice video for the gents, indeed! I fell in love with frock coats during the Tom Baker years of Doctor Who! Cheers on your sewing abilities!!! ~Janet in Canada
"Driver, bring the carriage around. I am escorting Miss Carlotta Collier-Jones to Browns for afternoon tea. And drive gently when Miss Carlotta is in the carriage."
Again another amazing video! Love seeing what they used to where back then; I wish men of today would take just as much consideration into their outfits today as men used to in the different era.
Men's clothing has changed more in the details than in the whole outfit itself, especially between 1800-1930. The colors, the buttoning points, the size and shape of the flap, the pockets, the way the tie is tied (its size).
That is far better than what i would do my first time doing this lol. Thank you for this video. The close up shots give me hints, but i wish they were a bit longer for a look. Great help in what fabrics you used for the items too. I have the Victorian machines and have learned some simple sewing, this gives me hope and hints.
It looks surprisingly modern, perhaps in another colour like black or navy and without the top hat, you could just walk the streets like this and people might not even frown
Those buttons were functional but long before that. At the bottom of the tails there were buttonholes, those buttons were fastened in the buttonholes to be able to ride a horse. With the passage of time they were no longer used and the buttons only remained as an aesthetic touch.
@@bruceleehace20anos17Definitely functional in this era! There's period sewing patterns s with functional pockets, tail pockets definitely were still a thing at this point
I’m new to your Channel and my jaw just dropped when you started you made his outfit! Oh my goodness you’re so talented! 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Your subtitles are hysterical too!
Thank you. Not much refined times though- just the opposite for the majority of people... me, I enjoy better hygiene, equality, freedom of today. Plus medical care and scientific advances that make it possible for us to enjoy nose freedoms in good health
Ahh! I’m so happy you posted another video! I love your videos so much! They have helped me tremendously with research on historical costume. Thank you!
Can confirm this is the case your tow options are un buttoning the braces or getting pretty much undressed. It the one down side to wearing them over a belt.
So Nice. Would be great to have more videos with men's fashion in different time periods too. There is nearly nothing on the topic on TH-cam when you search for it 😊
Watching this someone would usually think they were fancy back then but this is probably just your casual suit worn in town for shopping and walks but the fancier suits were more black or grey and had fancier neck ties and coats
Indeed, in the 1840s this was casual wear. Darker frock coats were also everyday items, and tailcoats still too, though increasingly more formal. We forget how suits have always been worn until about the late 60s; in the 1930s for instance there was a concept of a "house suit", "business suit", etc.... business suits are perfectly normal, a suit just for being at home is unheard of now. Most men born say in the 1920s, perhaps your grandparents, would always "dress up" for dinner. That was the case with my grandfather at least, and he was born in the mid 20s.
Don't ever apologize for the work you do! It's always gorgeous! I wish I had a fraction of your talent! Your husband is such a good sport, and yes, looks very handsome. Thank you both for an informative & fun video! More, more, more! 💖🙋🎩😃
One small point [and it really is small], the bottom button on the waistcoat was always left unbuttoned. Fob watches were also fashionable about then so any self-respecting gentleman would have worn one.
Isn't the waistcoat button tradition believed to have stemmed from King Edward VII? 1901 - 1910. Prior to that period it was worn buttoned all the way down. I may be misinformed, but I'm quite sure if it.
I volunteer at my local history village with a focus on the 1840-70s time and I'm a farmer and tailor this will be very fun to make. Thanks for sharing
I tried so hard to tell just how he tied his tie. It ends up looking like one loop with two ends held together and both ends exiting the knot together. Is this right? I keep wondering how and when mens' neckwear is going to change in coming years. Really it has been basically unvaried for so long it's time for something new!
Love it. I live in 1840s historic town. Two questions. What is glazed cotton vs deglazed? I have seen same descriptions for linen as well. The button drop fell trousers how long in fashion? Oops. Sorry, forgot you are too busy to answer. Anyway, nice job.
I wish i could afford an historically-accurate Victorian clothes. I wanna know what people would think, when Im walking in the cementary while wearing Victorian.
The outfit looks marvelous! The collars of the coat could have used a little bit of interfacing to strengthen it. I've made only one Victorian era gentleman's coat myself and it was hard! Well done. :)
Oh please is there an 1870s vers somewhere?? My book's inspired by the 1870s and I'd love to be as accurate as possible down to the threads, I'd much appreciate it, thanks!
Not just the ladies but gentleman also had a lot to put on. But definitely a handsome look.
Not as many as the ladies.
Brilliant! :) I love the men's fashion videos as their fashion is criminally neglected elsewhere and they look so dashing. Thank you!
I love how your "not perfect" is light years ahead of anything I could ever dream of producing.

Ah and now the gentleman is getting in on the action! I adore your videos, keep up the good work!
PriorAttire, thank you so much for this exquisite video. I love your attention to detail. Thank you also for showing us that a man in that era was capable of dressing himself with no assistance required.
Quite the handsome gentleman! And I love the fabric on the waistcoat!
Lovely couple. And yes, he is quite dashing.
Dapper he is!
Love the button detail, scarf and Topper👏
Me too!!!
He looks like he stepped out of a Charles Dickens novel.
wow i would love to see more men's fashion in the future😄
thegolden me too! This was wonderful!
If that coat was your first attempt, hats off!!
Thx would love to see more of men's fashions.
I absolutely am in love with your videos. I’m a huge regency romance novel fan, now I know what all the clothing they describe looks like.
I like the details in this era. The collar on the waistcoat gives subtle padding in the chest area. The stomach can be cinched by tightening the waistcoat in the back. The sleeves make the arms look bigger. Who needs a gym?
Thanks for this video! It was great to watch something focused on men's historical clothing.
I thought you did a wonderful job sewing his clothes! He looked wonderful!!!

I love watching your videos and always get excited when you release a new one.
How handsome! It is a pitty that formal menswear is much more boring these days - and it is used so much less.
needs more men's videos! especially tudor men's or victorian gent's!
Can't imagine all the hard work that went into creating the garments. Great job!
I always wanted to sew a shirt for my love, cotton or linen.

You seriously could be the wardrobe manager for a time travel agency! Be fun to see
Beautifully kitted out! And that handsome gentleman does justice to the garb!
Again another amazing video! Love seeing what they used to where back then; I wish men of today would take just as much consideration into their outfits today as men used to in the different era.
It would be a nice change from a wrinkled t-shirt stained with spaghetti sauce or bleach spots 😁
I do not think they realize how good they look.
What is amazing is how little men's fashion has changed in the past 200 years compared to women's.
Men's clothing has changed more in the details than in the whole outfit itself, especially between 1800-1930. The colors, the buttoning points, the size and shape of the flap, the pockets, the way the tie is tied (its size).
A master piece! Thank you so much, Priorattire, you're awesome as always!
Are you interested in historical outfits from other parts of europe? The Slavs have very beautiful traditional clothing.
Amazing job on the coat! Would not have thought it was your first time making one!

Dressed to spark revolution.
Looking forward for more Victorian Mens fashion.
quite dapper and absolutely delightful
I have wanted to see a video like this for so long!
I love your videos! I’m getting much better at dating with the knowledge I obtain from these beautiful videos. Xxx
Great to see how the Men wore their attire. great video
Brilliant! Would love to see more mens fashion. Well done, nice coat.
Even the outfits the gentlemen had to wear look really good!
What a fine gentleman, if I do say so myself.
jeans and shirt are great, but honestly, this is sooo much better :o))) i want my husband to wear such clothes :oD
Quite dashing & elegant! Well done to you both!
Lucas looks very distinguished and elegant in this outfit 👍🏻
dapper!
Your sewing gift is stunning.
Loved it...my favorite era.
Thank you for posting! Gentlemen seem to be somewhat under represented on TH-cam.
Superb work! I think you did an amazing job. Lucas looks quite handsome, and you make a lovely pair. Well done!
What a handsome gentleman!!! 😁
It looks surprisingly modern, perhaps in another colour like black or navy and without the top hat, you could just walk the streets like this and people might not even frown
I doubt it
Where I live they do it even if it's a 1930s or newer outfit :)
A perfect Dickensian man! Love the waistcoat. You did a great job. I can barely hem a pair of pants. LOL.
Wonderful! The clothes were so pretty at this period, for both, men and women!
Such exquisite work. He looks so dashing and handsome
I love your videos. You transport me back in time. I feel like I’ve time traveled!😁Thank you😘😍
Thanks for sharing. Perfect
The shoe part made me giggle :) Love the details :D
You both look so elegant! When you were walking together I just had a big smile on my face!
I just noticed the two buttons on the back of the frock coat, such a pretty touch.
Those buttons were functional but long before that. At the bottom of the tails there were buttonholes, those buttons were fastened in the buttonholes to be able to ride a horse. With the passage of time they were no longer used and the buttons only remained as an aesthetic touch.

beautiful as always! such great work from you guys.

I think the guys actually would have a harder time going to the bathroom. Those suspenders are under everything!
Beacuzz never thought of that !!

Remarkable work.

Very nice. Love to see more.

You have a gentleman for a husband. Love it he likes to dress "up" too. We don't dress "up" anymore.
I would love to be able to dress like this, though for men, we still dress similar to this
Your man is simply dashing!
What a dashing gentlemen, and the outfit's not bad either. lol. :)
I do enjoy your videos! I wish men still dressed like that because I would love to rock that outfit.
same, dude
I wish i could afford an historically-accurate Victorian clothes. I wanna know what people would think, when Im walking in the cementary while wearing Victorian.
Everyone will think you’re a ghost and it will be awesome
I see your videos all the time and I love then but i have to ask: Do you both wear those styles 24/7? Because if so, you are my new hero :)
I Wish To Dress Up Like That, Jolly Good Show ^^ I Wish Where to To Find these Clothes And find them in a Low Cost
Can you do dressing up a gentleman in 1880s?
This is a lovely outfit for your husband.
I do actually dressing like Lord Dundreary everyday but the only thing i need is the whiskers!
Where do you get things?
The outfit looks marvelous! The collars of the coat could have used a little bit of interfacing to strengthen it. I've made only one Victorian era gentleman's coat myself and it was hard! Well done. :)
it already has canvas interfacing secured with pad stitching
You are so talented!
