If waves feels like they aren’t being valued they should incorporate a rent to own model, alongside subscription, and perpetual licensing. As far as updates, I think they should bake that into the price to at least cover 3-4 years.
Hey Devvon you know what's crazy? That I went and checked the studio verse vocal chains and non of them come even close to that studiorack vocal chain I bought a while ago from ya. Your audio engineering knowledge is divine! you're like the Tony Stark of audio no cap!
I saw that what does that mean thou ? Engineers like us that already bought the plugins will have the ability to keep using them and not be forced into the subscription model ?
imo, there are some replacements, however some are also are subscription models... Slate Digital and Plugin Alliance... Softtube (crazy expensive) and lastly T-rackS 5...
This raises the conversation about simply owning the plugins we use & the comment about using stock plugins plugins is valid. Makes me reconsider the plugins I use & companies I choose. (Plus the value in having rendered stems for songs, cuz we already have problems enough loading old sessions)
For me, a fairly fresh costumer of any plugin company or audio company this sub model was actually a great way to get all the things that I wanted. Especially watching your vids, you use a lot of waves plugins, and most time I can't really find alternatives cheaply or maybe freely if I just want to try it out. The solution was to buy all of them, but that's months of progress and loads of money to get all that I would say is needed, to even download a vocal preset and being able to use it. So for me, I got a lot of value by just subscribing for the 15 dollar plan. Ofc that's the perspective of a new guy, and I get all the people saying how bad it is for the industry.
This was a good church session. Brother Courtney to my right. Best podcast for bother information and entertainment. Also, I can see if they stayed with their subscription package. I feel like everyone would say bump the subscription companies we either will use our stock plugins or plugin companies or Individuals with great products.
I can’t wait until tomorrow to see another installment of the My Audio Needs Podcast!! Happy Waves is back, but it’s like a girlfriend that broke up with me abruptly, gave me enough time to see what else was out there and to meet someone else new that I love, but now their back wanting to work things out.
Actually, I like the new subscription plan. The reality is you've never BOUGHT those plug-ins... You've only been leasing them. So every year you have to pay a fee to keep them operational and updated. Over the years I... so-called.... purchased several waves plug-ins. 30 some were bundled ... So each year I had to pay $240. To the waves update plan.... Well, my next update plan payment is due this coming September. So... instead of paying the update plan fee, I'm going to opt for the Subscription fee costing $250. .. That way I'll have ALL the Waves plugins at my fingertips
Definitely for it. I’d have to pay 250 at once, for the WUP on the Horizon bundle plus the other single plugs I’ve purchased. With the new Ultimate bundle, I have access to the entire catalog for only 25 each month. It’s almost the same money for a whoooole lot more. I win. I get why people were pissed. The way they broke this out is sheisty period. They did what they need to do to fix it.
Also, what plugins do we actually even need? Plugins for me are in two categories. 1) What real-time, low latency plugins I need for tracking and 2) What types of post-processing plugins I actually need. For 1) I lean on UAD & my tracking hardware. For 2) It’s worth it to commit to the use of tools that actually do what I need to do. Plugins used to be difficult & rewarding technology. Now it just seems like a cheap candy shop. Anyone can make a saturation plug-in that sounds different. But how to make a plug-in that works and interfaces effectively (cue the conversation again about DAW’s doubling down in the quality of their stock plugins)
As a current subscriber to the previous waves subscription, I completely felt for the ones who spent 100s of money into the company because since I was using the platinum subscription they gave me six months free because of the change. I feel the favoritism.
The crazy thing is that waves was already doing subscriptions before with their gold and silver bundles. If it wasn't working before this definitely isn't going to now
They are bringing it back we're just now waiting for them to update it in the system. But when I found out this shit I was hurt from a long time customer stand point. I spent thousands with WAVES and for them to take away my ownership of the plugins I've purchased, for them to just try and steer me on this subscription path is complete bullshit. I really believe they should have considered the feelings of long time customers and the new generation coming in.
Early on in my Audio Engineering career I bought the Waves Gold bundle, then slowly added more and more waves plugin simply because of how cheap they were compared to some of the other big names. Since then I have already had to pay for update plans from when I switched from PC to Mac. At that time I didn't even use many waves plugins anymore but you still have to update the entire gold pack for the few plugins you may want. Nowadays the only waves plugins I use are CLA-76 and Rvox. I only even use the CLA-76 for tracking cuz it's much lower latency than the UAD76s which I find to be much more responsive (got rid of my apollo and now use a satellite thats why I don't have zero latency tracking with UAD plugins). At the end of the day after all this with the waves sub I would rather use stock plugins to track then pay monthly just to have the CLA-76 that I paid like $50 for in the CLA compressors pack smh.
I did two videos on this issue with Waves on my channel too. It's Gonna take some time for their loyal customers to return. They have shown twice that they are more worried about money than providing quality products to their customers. First with the update plan price implementation, and second with the subscription roll out. We will see how this pans for them as a company moving forward.
UPDATE PLAN STILL NEEDS TO GO!!! Rebuying the same plugin over and over is stupid!! I have never paid to update a waves plugin yet but at some point they force you to do it. At that point, I'm gone!
Aye, WAVES tore they draws with me man... its goes deeper than just some plugins bruh. To devalue my dollar, just because a company mismanaged its resources... don't mean me, as an end-user should have to carry the load or pay for their mistakes.
Im all for the "new innovative" way to get plugins, but I actually enjoy looking on sites and discovering and learning about old or new plugins. I like the feeling of getting excited about a particular plugin that may be $200 and up or your cheaper plugins all the way down to the free ones. But full on paying for subscription to use plugins is not the move.
They should offer 1 or 2 year for free for loyal/old clients. I'm starting to migrate to other companies more "trusty"even if the offer me a SUBSCRIPTION PLAN, I'll prefere to change if waves don't compensate me for the THOUSANDS of euros I spent during these 15 years with them. Period! I can't imagine me to pay a SUBSCRIPTION PLAN to have ALL of their plugins IF I ALREADY HAVE ALMOST ALL OF THE PLUGINS. Doesn't make any sense. My ride with waves will end here. Thanks for your video.
On the one hand, user claim to only be working with a few waves plugins, yet they are paying hundreds of dollars per year to update, so they must be using quite a few waves plugins. The subscription plan, on its own is not a major issue, if you did not buy 100 plugins with updates beforehand. I bought three plugins so I welcome the subscription plan.
I can understand all the views brought to the table. Speaking only for myself, I started migrating from Waves about 5 years ago when I first got hit with the plan renewal. At that point I had amassed a great deal of plugs through the sales and volume discounts. For many of us when Waves first came into the game with the high $$$ plugins and bundles, we jumped at the opportunity to get our most sought after titles for cheap. Everyone bashes UAD for the price of their plugs, but I bought my first Apollo interface in 2018, buying into that ecosystem via discounts and holiday sales. I’m running the latest software ( as MacOS or hardware changes) with no added cost. And the DSP based plugs that have become native, I get free. 🤔They may cost a bit more, but they are mine. Waves still has some “special” utility plugs like Smack Attack and Torque that I still use, but as soon as an alternative is available I will replace those. As one that’s not largely affected, it’s mostly from the decision to start replacing all the Waves plugs I use regularly. Good luck everybody🫡
Waves brought back perpetual licenses. I do think the the engineer templates in Studiorack in the Studioverse subscription is a game changer for people who don't mix well.
But what's crazy is that most plugins cost more than the DAW. I don't like the subscription deal. It's like this, people are being forced into it, and once they make it the norm, the subscription prices are going to become sky high leaving you with no choice but to pay whatever they will be asking for.
What would have been cool, would have been a subscription where you could have chosen plugins separately for 1 (normal) or 2$ (premium) per plugin. And then offered big plans that make sense or a rent to own subscription like Plugin Alliance where you once a year is over get a voucher to spend in value you gave on your favourite plugins...
I still can not get on here site to purchase plug-ins unless I agree to there new plans. I have been researching alternative plug_ins as there are PLUG_INS just as good if not better. And better yet they do not charge for updates so as a small studio I am in the process of getting ready to delete Waves From my DAW
I promise itll come back and become the norm… I remember when people were outraged about dlc(video games), then after a while it became the norm. There’s always pushback until its not.
How about the big households join in a common/affiliate program where you select x amount of various plugins for a personalised subscription bundle. Companies win their monthly fee and we as customers would have custom work templates without these challenges.
I think it's likely that the sales they usually have on plugins will either disappear or become less frequent, this could be their way to still offer perpetual licenses but sway you towards the subscription (obviously an opinion after the have brought the perpetual licences back)
I love to own my plugins. But The option Rent to own should be for the major plugins like Native Instruments Bundle plugins, Arturia plugins, or others that are more than 100 dollars. Then plugins like arcade, loop cloud and slice is amazing example for the Subscription needs. I can't stand that WAVES tried to go to the Subscription way. Not even DAWs should go to that level. I have stopped getting plugins. I am about stock plugins.
Plain and simply put...Waves should do a better job of showing loyalty to their customers who have shown loyalty by investing in buying their plugins previous to the subscription model.
We are sick of it. Let's start a movement. . Media influencers should make it a point to stop reviewing subscriptions or urge their followers to not use subscriptions. Offer alternatives to em. The manufacturers will get the message. Most of us are struggling musicians. We all want to own our software
If I tend to use only 10% of their Repertoire, I don't wan't to pay for 100% of their Plug-In Range. So, maybe a Subscription Plan that allows the User to choose 10 or 20 Plug-Ins, that he wants to use and then just pay like 10% of the Current Subscription Plans, it would make more Sense for the User. And I think it would also work for Waves as a Company.
Only mfs upset are the ones who ain't been crackin that shit. And thats why we crack because the companies repeatedly demonstrate that they don't give a flying fadoodle about us💯

I already spent thousands on waves plugins it’s nothing but a slap in the face to long time loyal customers......subscriptions are just greedy on the company’s behalf...... it really needs to stop... it’s feels better to buy something and own it than to be forever paying for something that you’ll never own 👎
All need each other wave!!!
Glad I got a cracked version of the latest waves 🌊 😎
I know right they stupid why pay for what you can have for free forever I built a million dollar studio o cracked plugins I never paid for not one plugin and I got them all I have waves new version cracked they ain't getting a dime
🚨👮♂ 🤣
@@noboyz4554 they definitely not now 💀💀💀💀
@@troytrain7461 I’m just saying 💀
It’s not bad anyway
It's not right for them to sell you a bundle for 2,500 for you to own and then switch after. So evil and woke
Waves is the Walmart of plugins…. Bargain plugins. I’m glad they back tracked on this subscription model
I'm hearing the argument and options. I'm not taking away from ya facts. I'll say this if you don't want to participate then do so. If not come up with a solution.
My solution
Make your tools ( Hypothetically speaking) or don't.
They came into the market and targeted people who found their services exquisite and so what they had decided to do was a drastic change
I feel like waves oversaturated their own market. Biggest problem in my opinion.
