Nate, you're the man. Instead of searching through hundreds of different videos, I can come to your channel and get just about everything figured out. After watching your videos I was able to figure out how to swap out the rear axle in my 03' TJ, without destroying the whole jeep lol. I have no fabrication experience and your videos have given me the confidence and knowledge to work on my own rig. Since finding your channel I have added a bunch of tools and a welder to my collection and every week I am able to do more and more to the jeep. Thanks again for the countless hours of filming and editing and keep up the great work.
P.S. I'm located in Utah so next time you plan a trip to Moab, I would be thrilled to be able to meet up and hit a trail with you.
Wishing you and your family the best, Derek.

This was a FUN video!!!! On a side note... @22:00, the question of using either a DANA 60 or the FORD 9 inch.... Not a critical thought here, but, the third member of the FORD 9 inch, not all come with the additional 3rd bearing/bushing support for the pinion... There are a few websites that cover this in a finer detail of the year(s) that this heavier third member was not offered and in what vehicles, like like, what to look for in casting numbers for the center section third member... please note, this is not a deal breaker, if you happened to get the lessor third member unit, they are still unquestionably strong. so do not let that detour you from shopping the right deals and really only plays a role in ordering replacement parts to rebuild the center section... and even that is not really an issue... Good luck... Dru

Buyers Beware! Same experience here with Coty Built. Owner of the company said 4-week lead time before I shelled out $5500. Over a year later I still din't have a complete kit (pre covid)... Doing this to one customer is crappy, but doing this as a matter of practice is disreputable, or worse.

You can do an 8.8 swap in one day with no swap experience long as you can weld
My first axle swap was an 8.8 into a tj. I had a shop set the gears and locker, bought the bracket kit.. and used the existing d35 for measurements to locate all the brackets.. turned out well and did it in 6-7 hours on a Sunday when I needed that daily driver to get to work Monday morning lol.
Don’t second guess the trackbar location. Stick with where you first place it.. I made the mistake of placing the axle under the Jeep bolting it up and thinking I messed up the mount location as the axle was way off to one side.. I cut it fee moved it and bolted it back. Once it was under weight it would’ve been right in the first location and ended up being 1” off center in the end. Wasn’t a big deal but you won’t know if something is off unless you fully weight it. Even then you have some adjustment in the bar itself. The 8.8 is the easiest, strongest, cheapest swap there is though.

I used front hubs from an early 80's dana 30 CJ on my HP Dana 30. No welding or cutting. The unit bearing is exactly the same, they bolt right in.
The inner axle shafts are about 3/4 shorter, but you can swap your HP Dana 30 inners onto the CJ dana 30 outers. Or just order custom
RCV's as I did. Works great and I have a 5x5.5 with locking hubs along with my 8.8 with super 88 kit.

Being the Ford Ranger on the dana 35 ttb has some similarity out at the knuckle as the jeep here is what they do on the Ranger that might work on your jeep. Enlarge the ball joint holes on the c take a ford f150 outer and mount it. Now you have the f150 brakes, 5 bolt pattern (old style), and locking hubs. Go over to the ranger station (trs.com) and there is an article on doing this.

The flood of 2016 really did a number on it. It's currently taking over our covered patio since it's down to bare frame etc. Media blasting and re coat the frame and paint the body are next on to do list. Probably going to end up with a beefed up 351w in because we like our Ford small blocks.

The guy that I bought my cj7 from built a trailer for it. He used a s10 bed and put a hydraulic pump and motor in it to drive the axle. Used a front axle so the hub's will lock and unlock. Would make a great overland trailer.

GREAT ADVISE absolutely love my Golden 4.6 stroker engine. I have done LOTS of engine swaps for customers & friends, & the inline 6 stroker set up is WAY more easier and less expensive & i can smoke my 37" tires

I just finished a 4.5 stroker I'm really happy with it. I think with new pistons cam lifters 2 engines and machine work it was a little over a $1,000 and it couldn't be easier. It's almost too much power for a short wheelbase CJ with SOA and 35's. It's probably 250 horsepower and 325 ft lbs torque it comes in around 1,800 rpm and pulls hard to 4,000rpm

Force balance! If you wheel don’t do wheel balancing.. this is 90% of the problems with death wobble. Tires cup and wear uneven.. force ballancing is more expensive but your front end will love you for it and you’ll be saving wear and tear on joints.

You should write a book geared toward building a TJ from stock to Diesel beast, ( It would have to be a Build for dummies for me). I would buy it! Keep the videos coming. They are helping me greatly

Can't help but to pour with admiration from your 4.0 to ls swap input, because I'm all about the 4.0 it's been a hard transfer to go to a diesel, pros and cons to all but as far as reliability I couldn't agree more with diesel and the 4.0 , I think I'm sticking with the 4.0 for the xj, but if I had a tj, id for sure do the diesel . I love the 4.0 power , especially geared up you got a reliable 4x4 same with diesel .

    • @danfay4860
      @danfay4860 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Look into a stroker its really simple. Take your 4.0, swap in a 4.2 crankshaft and connecting rods (4.0 Pistons) crane or comp cam and lifters, ford5.0 24 lb injectors bam 4.5l stroker its that easy. It has all the low end torque of the 4.2 and quick revving from the 4.0. You can bore it out for a 4.6 .030 overbore or 4.7 with a .040 overbore just do a few "jeep stroker" searches.

Great video as always. I’d love to see you build an off road trailer! I’ve been building one off and on for about 9 months (mostly a weekend project). I converted an old utility trailer. I’ve towed mine probably a few thousand miles on and off road, and it’s held up well so far. I ended up installing the Timbren axle-less suspension and love it. Gives the trailer crazy clearance even with 31” tires, and the ride is pretty smooth. Tracks well too.

Triangulate as much as packaging allows. Don’t feel you have to be a True double but aim for as close as you can. The lowers are really the important part. Get what ever you can from the uppers and you’ll be fine with a 4 link.
