Check Your Gas Cap

You probably think about your gas cap approximately, never. It’s a silent hero of the fuel system, until something goes wrong. If your gas cap has an issue, it will usually cause a Check Engine Light to appear. When this happens, it either needs to be tightened or replaced.

Thanks for the heads up, I bought an oem cap on eBay and it was fake the gasket is flimsy and don't seal properly ,Amazon has the same issue with many counterfeits I guess I have to buy it from the dealer or other reputable site.

@@G.Alvarez I tried AutoZone and it worked for a few days and then I had to return it. Wound up getting one from the dealership for $35 and problem solved.

I cleaned the gas cap (Volvo V70) with WD40. The check engine light turned off after a while.

My replacement gas gap just fits but it does not click either similarly to my replaced cap 🤷🏻‍♂️

You don't have to use Autozone, you can also use a different supplier. But I guess every american beyond the age of 2 will know this.

Yes, check engine light is cause by aftermarket gas cap, never never purchase aftermarket gas cap or any kinds parts especially that could throw DTC, always purchase Genuine parts, regardless of price, genuine parts are trouble free and will last.

Why not run the computer check first that way if the cap is not the problem and not waste money on unneeded parts to begin with

Alot of cars dont tell you where the leak is
Just that there is a leak
And youd want to replace the worn cap bc that would prevent the vacuum from forming and would bring up the code
Can also bring it up if its dirty and that ends up getting in the way or how mentioned, not closed correctly

I bought a Duralast gas cap a few months ago and the rubber seal fell off failed emissons. Took it back and AZ assoc said I need to buy another as that paticular gas cap has no warranty.
