SO glad the devs continued to work on this. The original was decent, but needed some work. One of my most anticipated games of 2021 and I cannot wait to get started on this after work
@@Indy721yeah, is it decently challenging? after spending so much time playing dead cells, i'm afraid it might be a bit easy. the reviewer made it sound like a lot of the rebalancing made the game easier. it's on sale for like $12 though, so what the hell, may as well try it out.
i'm so blown away by this update. i'm honestly shocked it wasn't released as a new game.. this is the same amount of change that nioh 2 had from it's original... even if you have played it.. download it again. it's basically a new game. i've played 100 hours of the original.. and i'm getting lost and basically reliving my first experience with the game.
With the difference that "Nioh 2" added new mechanics, a char editor and new stages without recycling anything. "Death's Gambit: Afterlife" is too much of the same to be a new game. And you don't wanna have more devs having the Fighting-Game mindset, where a new game gets released because 2 chars are added and the balancing was tweaked a little. As impressive this uppdate is, but that "Nioh 2" comparison is nonsensical. Did people complain about "Mega Man 2", "Super C" or "Doom 2"?
@@keen7youtubeistoast796 i played nioh 2. they re-used most of the asset's from nioh 1 and added a "super mode". if your a fan cool. but don't lie for your love.
@@jmc2830 They added a super mode? Yeah, you've surely played the game. Again, comparing an update, which is basically the same game with a bit more content, to a sequel with not one old stage and with completely new bosses is really really dumb. Has nothing to do with being a fan, I'm simply not blind/dumb.
I really enjoyed the original back in 2018 on the PS4... and to support the devs I just bought a second copy on the Switch. I'm looking forward to experiencing all the new changes they've made. Thanks for the review.
i got it for free during a sale, and holy hell do I love this game. took me a while to learn the bosses, and get somewhat good at the game but its well worth the time to play
Much like The Game Kitchen (Blasphamous), Team Cherry (Hollow Knight) and Tom Happ (Axiom Verge), I love developers like this. They are not happy just pushing out a product and collecting the money. They listen and give everything they can to their fans so we can have the best experience with their art. If not for indie developers, I would have quit gaming years ago.
2:29 Sorun doesn't have a voice because you, the player, are controlling him, and therefor you are his voice as you read his lines. Without spoiling too much, this wasn't done for no reason, it plays a part in the story telling and character development. Sorun gains his own voice towards the end of the game. It's was done for a reason and is done quite well imo.
That's one way to look at it, but he's probably not voiced because voice actors get paid by quantity of lines, and the money they would have to pay someone who talks in almost every conversation is much higher than the side characters. This happens a lot in JRPGs from smaller studios where they just can't afford to have all of the main characters lines voiced, so there will sometimes be scenes where everyone is talking except the main protag, then when major events happen they talk. I'm stuck on the stupid polarity dog but this game is very self aware and I'm sure will find an in universe reason for the lack of acting by the end but the actual reason behind the scenes is most likely cost.
on switch games how do find the software version of the game you want? the eshop doesn't show you. the dev own website (when they have working ones.) don't show you? say you're interested in a game, but know of a bug in it. it's being worked on and you want to wait for the patch before buying it. how do you know? edit: thanks for the feedback,
Oh man, I really wanna go into this game again... shame that I have the PS4 version and the update comes at a later date. I loved my playthrough of this game, but after watching some trailer (after beating the game), I was really disappointed that so many things were cut. Hopefully, this will make up for it.
I've never played this but you sold me on it with this video, so I just bought it on Switch. Soul's like so I'm hoping it's kinda like Blasphemous/the last faith 🤞🤞
I pre ordered on ps4 n then recently on switch when on sale and it’s so much better now with this “remake rearranged” update. Am thinking of getting ashes of vados. I haven’t finished yet but so far it’s a lot of fun. Great game
This is a master piece! A true metroidvania. I really hope other developers take note of this remake cause these so many games out there that could use the level or refresh this game got. It went from an OK game to to true metroidvania/souls like juggernaut.
"A soldier granted immortality employed by Death itself to rid the land of its curse" ...........And his face is very blue-green. Oh my lord, this is Chakan The Forever Man turned into a Soulslike.
i always take the upgrade material. but that might just be a left over habbit from salt and sanctuary. none of them are game changing like the master key in souls. i think it's really just a preference between a little more fire power early via items. or having a headstart on upgrades with the soul stones.
it was always playable... might just be your expectations that made it not worth your time. saying that a lot of the changes were to address these sort of complaints.. so yeah, it is probably playable by your standards.
Souls meets Ghost 'n Goblins... pfff... imagine you beat it all and then the game goes "THIS ROOM IS AN ILLUSION AND IS A TRAP DEVISUT BY SATAN. GO AHEAD DAUNTLESSLY! MAKE RAPID PROGRES!" XD That be awesome!
Yes but the truth also is that most devs would leave the game in the dust and not release a remake of the game, and on top of that give it to players who already had the game for free ☺️
So i played the original on ps4 and i was highly disappointed. I had hoped for something like Blasphemous or Hollow Knight, but that wasn’t the case. It was more like a boss rush mode with some filler. 3 screens sometimes 4 in between each boss was idk just kinda boring.

The truth is: White Rabbit release the game incomplete back in 2018.
Afterlife is how the game should be released without market pressure 😉

This is only half true.
If it would be released how it should've been, there would be some sort of a grapling hook mechanic.
At long last.
It is now what it always wanted to be
that voice acting choice is a weird one
