Willing to play along and be a good sport, to make someone laugh, down-to-earth, and creative. From one human to the other, this is what the world needs now more than ever.
I miss him. Makes me nostalgic. I loved his understated humor. My dad used to like watching him. My dad was an understated kind of guy as well and had similar humor. I miss them both.
Rodney Stephen Hull (13 August 1935 - 17 March 1999) was a British comedian and popular entertainer on television in the 1970s and 1980s. He rarely appeared without Emu, a mute and highly aggressive arm-length puppet modelled on the Australian bird.
Johnny knew what Emu did just by watching some of the clips from British shows Rod was on, especially Michael Parkinson's show and a classic Palladium appearance withLarry Grayson when Emu nearly got Larry by the ol' wedding tackle.
Respected editors of this video channel, it would be great if you could upload a full recording of Belinda Carlisle's guest appearance on the show from 1988 where she performed two songs in addition to the interview. One of them is I GET WEAK and the other, if I'm not mistaken, is HEAVEN IS A PLACE ON EARTH. I hope you will want to please all of us who love her. Thank you in advance on behalf of myself and Belinda Carlisle fans. 🍺🍺 from Steve.
Poor Rod fell off a roof and died while trying to fix his T,V Ariel. He never got a good picture on his telly. But there was a good reception at his funeral

Johnny was the best and missed so much.
I can't believe how far Johnny was willing to go playing along with the gag. Legend.
I think Johnny did it because Rod was told to not to have Emu go after Richard, as he was still recovering from his burns.
I loved this. It was hilarious. It's one of the funniest Tonight Show clips ever. 😊
The audience laughter was contagious. Especially a lady who was especially fun to hear.

Emu gets all the laughs but Rod Hull does all the work!
At that time everyone in the UK knew this act😂
What a good sport. Not every talk show host would agree to that.
Michael Parkinson.
Having Richard Pryor there makes this even funnier!😂😂😂😂
Totally hysterical!!!!
I recall after the break Pryor asked "Is he good with dumplings?"
Classic hilarious and timeless
This is the best!! 😅😅😅

Rod Hull and Emu come on, every person over 50 in the UK remembers this Guy 👍👍👍👍👍
The Russel Harty show was the Best !
RIP Rod 😮💨😮💨
I think Rod tried this on Billy Connolly and Billy said,"You dare and I'll break it's neck and your arm!"

Never thought I'd see Rod Hull sitting next to Richard Pryor
Johnny was the BEST !!!
dang last time I seen this was when I was Kid
watching Johnny Carson with my father.
"I seen"??? I think you're still "Kid" , since you haven't yet learned how to talk like an adult.
Dude looks like Roger Daltry
No kidding! I could have sworn it actually was Roger!
To be honest I thought maybe it was and the other name was part of the gag..
Who?
@@mooseyman74You're allowed to go back and reread the comment.
@@reryro1266 who are you?
Or Gene Wilder.
I like the pause before the grab. Emu is staring at Johnny with his mouth open for a good second before clamping on! 😂
I haven't laughed this hard in years!
I bet this was cleared by Johnny but he didn't expect the ferocity of the Emu.
Johnny knew what Emu did just by watching some of the clips from British shows Rod was on, especially Michael Parkinson's show and a classic Palladium appearance withLarry Grayson when Emu nearly got Larry by the ol' wedding tackle.
I hope Richard Pryor put this experience into his stand up. I can imagine it already. “That Emu…he one real muthafu…!”😆
😂👍
I’m thinking Richard was having all kinds of flashbacks. And revolutions .
Carson was just happy to do an animal spot that wasn't genuinely dangerous.
How can you tell Emu is from Australia? Coz he keeps going DOWN UNDER :)
Just ask Larry Grayson ....

@@mooseyman74 😆😅🤣😂
How does falling fix an antenna? Was he fixing it on the way down?
@@reryro1266 you must be fun at parties.
@@register1430 Wow. Would you look at that original statement. Did you just come up with that?

Who the hell is Billy Connolly?
If William Wallace told jokes he would be called Billy Connolly.
Il est mort ! Emu l'a poussé du toit !

I imagine Jeff Dunham would have been big on Johnny's show ❤
He appeared on Johnny's show. It's on You Tube.

I don't get it, seems weird. Why is attacking people with a puppet funny? Rod seems like a weird guy to make this his whole career.
Disturbing.
