- This is the award winning video from Luis Cardenas, the gregarious and talented drummer from Renegade. This incredible video features Luis and his record breaking drum set, animated dinosaurs, Donny Osmond, Del Shannon and famed publicist Norman Winter. An MTV favorite, still part of MTV's Closet Classics, this video won numerous film festivals as well as garnering a Grammy Nomination for Cardenas. There is a documentary entitled "The Making of Runaway" available in this channel that outlines the stop motion animation process that is a can't miss for any fan of this classic.

Trivia: At the end of the video, Luis's fellow Renegade band mates run up and say "We got the gig" and all four run off together. At the time, Luis's success as a solo artist fueled rumors that he was going to depart Renegade to focus on his solo career. I've been looking for this since the late 80s too! Vaguely remembered the dinosaurs and only remembered his name being of Spanish/Latin background when I saw the video thumbnail. I think I may still have this video recorded on an old Betamax tape in storage.

The dinosaurs are by the Chiodo Bros. They also wrote, produced, directed, and did the FX for Killer Clowns from Outer Space.

I been looking for this video for years, I remember when it premiered on MTV back in the day.
Luckly I recorded this from the MTV2 A to Z marathon on aVHS tape.
I interviewed Luis for an episode for my podcast, Imaginary Music and it’ll air on 3/21/22. So it didn’t even hit me that the guy playing the cop is Del Shannon, the man who wrote and performed this song! He was full of great stories.
I was maybe five years old when I first saw this way back in the 80s! It blew my little dinosaur-obsessed mind!

That was back in 1986, best summer I never forget, from summer school to watching MTV videos. Was my full last summer till I started working from 1987 till now.
I remember seeing this on MTV. The two boys I took care of loved this music video because it had dinosaurs in it and it made them laugh.

I remember watching this video in science class back in 1990. We were learning about dinosaurs at the time, and the teacher being a musician himself thought it would be cool to show us this video. I've often since that time, thought about this video but never thought Id find it. Great memories though.

Me too saw it first on Saturday morning kids tv and never after until now the 80s were amazing.
No matter what we were doing, my younger brother and I would stop and watch this video every time it came on. It was those rocking dinosaurs.

It's taken me so long to track this down. All I could remember was the guy was a drummer who did a 50's cover and I thought there were muppets or puppets in the video, and I originally saw it on Raw Power in the 80's. Not much to go on but I found it and it's still awesome!
