Bujinkan(Divine Warrior's House) is the name of federation founded by Hatsumi sensei. the name of this martial art is Budo Taijitsu (tecniques of combact to use all body). When you study Budo Taijitsu, you are studing nine different martials arts old schools. three of this schools are Ninpo or Ninjitsu.
@ShingenDok i think we notice both energys but we tend to trust the negative energys more. i teach a way to get the "feeling" that tends to work very well for everyone.
@ArchitectOfEvil Actually there is a 6th sense, if you know what it is. In Bujinkan you train your body, but also your mind and spirit. And that doesn't mean it's magic or anything of the sort. The development of that 6th sense, or Ku (void) is about learning to control your body, your breath, listening the most subtle sounds around your head on the air, and understanding that the human mind is so vast that there is so much we don't understand about it, but it contains the whole universe within
When I stopped training there where only 3 Sho Dan outside of Japan, and Doron but he does not count as "outside". At least back then you had to pass this to get 5th Dan. The first Swede that were tested wore that bamboosword like a hat from what I heard. He never got above 4th Dan iirc. The second one did however. But it seems like there are shitloads of non-japaneese Sho Dan now. Thxs for sharing this, intresting to watch and it brings back memories...
Thank you ShiNoSaru. I completely agree. Who are these people who like to comment on things they have never experienced? It seems to have no purpose other than to create unpleasantness. They obviously do not have any desire to really understand and learn.
for the first one yea. but i mean the part that starts at 58. if you watch the series then you see him pause and then follow through. but i guess its for safety reasons.
@shishiromura Well, when I started to study in the bujinkan, i agree these things. We have many MMAA and Selfdefense system to choose, many others allow many changes, a little changes, or have no many rules. I just can say that.
@larsjune1 if you just rely on heard then you'll never move in time. By the time your brain processes the sound and tells your body to move then its too late. Everyone has this ability but you just have to learn how to controll and use it.
In order to be able to do this, you really need a kind of sensitivity for the attacker, kinda like in Aikido or something. Ones you have centered yourself, you can reach out with your senses and feel him. So when he attacks you move out of the way since you are in harmony with his movements. Easier said then done however. Sounds kinda like the force though.
I get what you're saying, but some clearly do get struck and it just got me to thinking...especially after really watching how he follows through with his strike.
The Test is Simple it is to see if you have Reached enough Sensitivity in your training to pick up the intention of someone trying to kill you or hurt you, (note Soke Hatsumi Closes his eyes when striking! That is so he does not stop the sword if he sees you not moving!)
xD dodging swords really sucks xD I'm still not relaxed enough to pull it off (at least not at a decent speed xD) something about a guy standing behind me waiting to hit me with a stick just stops me being relaxed im working on it tho :P would be a great honer to sit under hatsumies sword
He best way to learn is to put yourself in Danger and learn to sense the feeling, Get a job as a Doorman or something like that!? The other thing you can do is Zen Meditation to clear the mind and of course train hard in Martial Arts (and I mean Hard) there is no short cut ..no quick way!
@mindissilent there is no technique :/ the attacker projects intent u have to percieve it and dodge the sword. The first 5 dans teach you how to percieve and feel the intent of an attacker this is the test on how well you can do it. Remember belt and rank in the bujinkan are not given by time but through how refined your taijutsu is. The only way to understand this is to actually learn.
ESP? No! Sensitivity Yes, it is a natural primeval feeling some people are more sensitive than others but we can all learn to do this, We have lost the ability in society because we didn't need it for century's and if not used goes way, it is a tangible feeling, but you have to have a clear mind, most failures are due to Nerves or inability to still the mind,
You're absolutely right. But I'm talking about the conjuction and training of all our senses, our mind and our body in such a way that makes you able to foresee danger and percieve subtle changes in your enviroment. The Japanese have a word for it ("Ku") as if it was just a 6th sense, but you may call it however you like; I belive it doesn't matter, for the essence of things is far more important than their name. It exists and it is absolutely achievable. Thank you for your response.
I remember reading that Takamatsu sensei used a live blade on Hatsumi. I can imagine Hatsumi sensei did that for some of the shihan that have been with him since the 70's. I imagine it's harder to get that feeling of danger if you aren't going to get seriously hurt! :) I'm far from that point myself so I have no idea.
Did you take the test with soke Hatsumi or some1 else, cuz that might make some difference. And I'm 14, too ^^ But I've only studied it for like 7-8 months -_-
No, Bujinkan is ninjutsu I think. There are like "copies" of bujinkan ninjutsu like dallas-ninjutsu and something like that. Or that's what I've heard, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Wow, congratz!! Isn't this just one of the basic principles in bujinkan (I'm not saying that it's easy tho) It's something like this "Know that patience is only a moment" or something like that, I'm translating it from another language so I'm not sure :S
I study under the Genbukan system and my instructor said that they do use live blades when you go to test for Shihan...he says so far they haven't lost anyone yet :P.
Reaching out with your senses also implies your hearing, since that is one of your senses, but there also more that just your hearing. I bet Hatsumi sensei could do it even if the sword wielder didn't make a sound.

you CLEARLY don't understand the point of the test whatsoever. it's not about dodging at all. it's not about reaction timing. it's not about wether you get hit or not you fool. it's about wether you can sense the intentions of another person.
I dont know how long it took! but I took the test after 18 years of Martial Arts! My student gave up before he got it, He's very ill with Cancer so...i dont know
One more thing, Just getting out of the way is not enough!! You must do it with the right timing or you will fail, People who try to anticipate the strike are given a Fail the people who watch and judge have already passed it, The right timing is what you see here.
@porquenoagarra2 exactly. Now im not saying its a bad test. but he claims to want only authenticity (i personally dont support not allowing change) and how can he do that if people around the world are changing it slightly. i personally say do whatever works for you.
Scary for anyone not living in Japan, because they have to fly home, and pay to fly back out there next cycle for the next test. It can be stressful and disheartening to go all the way to Japan, only to fail, and have to go all the way back home, and then repeat the process...which is why you must be damn good and sure, and your teachers must be damn good and sure, that you are ready.
@Solas O'Dimm You want to spend a year living in a hotel in Japan you're welcome to. Most of us dont have the time or the money for that. He only does these tests once a year. If you fail, he typically lets you come back the day after and try again but if you fail that then you have to wait another year.
@Solas O'Dimm Like I said whatever floats your boat. Its not really a test you can prepare for. Either you're ready or you're not. Staying there for a year isnt going to make a big difference lol I dont exactly find your viewpoint realistic...see most people have jobs, and I dont know about you but I know if I asked for a year long vacation I'd get laughed at. It would be a lot cheaper and more practical just to go home and fly back next year...hes not going to let you come back every day and test. He does it once a year . But again everyone's different.
