If you listen to Ross and Meeks music there’s definitely growth in both of there music from when they first came in til now, just because they still will make a gangster/trap life style song or use those lyrics doesn’t mean that there promoting that lifestyle, it no different then making a movie it’s for entertainment purposes! They are simply creating a scene that most people can relate to! They are both fathers and business men you can publicly see that so at this point in their careers you wouldn’t just believe or assume that there doing all of this gangster stuff they rapping about!! It’s actually so hilarious the amount of drake and Kanye got for not being from the streets do you see how stupid that sounds. But if you about the action and have sold drugs and was in a gang that’s not corny . Just like people now calling Russell Wilson corny for stepping up and loving Ciara and taking care of each child and in their lives 24/7 and stepping up as a father to future kid because future is because in his late 30s and still running around in clubs and dosent live with his kids and that’s how he wants it and dosent seen them as much that’s not corny??? Man our whole society is backwards man so much. Russell seen as a corny guy for being nice and respectful and I remember coming up and people being surprised how Kanye and drake were very well spoken and intelligent in their interviews and especially for drake people were surprised how clearly you can hear every word that’s soft and corny. But being dumb and not being well spoken somehow be the popular kids in hs and the smart ones usually were seen as try hards and some schools are the opposite the smart kids who played football and did extracurricular activities wee

I’m Dee-1 yall. First: Terrible journalism 😂 AND deflection by Joe Budden. I am a rapper, college professor, community activist, public speaker, etc - (not a professional podcaster). Second: PUBLIC actions deserve PUBLIC responses. So speaking about the LYRICAL CONTENT of rappers is not wrong. Joe, you give your public opinion on public figures for a living actually. We are just afraid of accountability in hip hop.

I hate the "why can they make movies about this stuff but musicians are held accountable" Easy answer. Because when Arnold gets done filming The Last Action Terminator he doesn't go do interviews and say "THAT WAS REALLY ME I DID THAT FOR REAL". They acknowledge that its fantasy. Meanwhile rappers will go to the grave swearing that every word out of their mouth is real life and will actively call out other artists who they dont feel "really love their lyrics". Joe would be the FIRST one talking about "he really aint bout that life" then turn around with his hands up liek "why cant we just make art"

Like the late great Tupac said, "I made a G today," but you made it in a sleazy way. . .just because its "art" and this is they way you make money (as Jim Jones said) doesnt make it okay or right!!! Im with Dee on this one!

First things first, All of us contradict ourselves. But not all of us have the same reach as these rappers so it is different.
They should be held accountable for their messages in their music and what they do in real life. Its not clout chasing, its bravery because the guys he named love using their power and money for violence well at least they say it in their music but then they go scream justice reform. Pick a side and be solid and stand on that side. I’m tired of these guys that come from the street, make it out and become successful, preach good positive things at one moment and then spew negativity the next. I didn’t know Dee1 prior but he’s right and salute to him.
