If I could turn back time we'd spend more time getting the pianos all perfectly in tune before pressing record. Sometimes, though, you've got to just go with the flow, press record and hope that you got most things right to a good enough standard to make a useful video. I hope you liked it overall? :)
1970s U3 had the richest sound in my opinion and the most harmonics, particularly in the treble. Would go for the 1970s U1 if you like the brighter sound.
My apologies, we should have worked harder at making sure the pianos were in tune and at the same pitch before pressing record. I hope the video was still useful regardless? Thanks Mark markgoodwinpianos.co.uk

U-1 early 1980s far better than all U-3's demonstrated. IN fact I found one of these here in Berkeley.. 1983 U-1--but it would be nice to tune the piano however. Second best U-1 late 1970s. PLEASE TUNE ALL THE PIANOS before comparing.. so many of the Yamahas sound stringy--brassy--awful...
I just recently got a late 90's U1 (made for N. American market).. I was looking at the cabinetry on the current u1 on the Yamaha website and it looks identical to mine.. do you know of any material differences between the u1 from the 80s, 90s, and 21st century models? I know someone who has a 1992 u1 and it is designated u1F.. mine is just u1 and so are the newer models.
Hi sorry for the very very slow reply. You might enjoy the article I wrote here: www.markgoodwinpianos.co.uk/info/difference-u1-u1g-u1h-u1a :) Mark markgoodwinpianos.co.uk
You have a Yamaha X made in Japan in 1976. The quality is very high and you can read more about the X model (and other similar models) at www.markgoodwinpianos.co.uk/info/difference-u3-u30a-u30bl-yu30-ux-ux3-yu3s-yu3sxg-yu5sxg-yua

I'm Brazilian, and I really enjoyed the video! Comparing the sound so you did which was very helpful for me. thank you!
Obrigado. Muito Prazer. Falo um poco de Portuguese :)
I like how you broke up the clips to 2 seconds on each. I wish everyone comparing piano's would do this.
the girl is so cute!
Late 70s U3, that would be my choice :)
The early 80s U3 seemed out of tune.

1980s U3 sounded twangy to me.. Perhaps a tuning issue? In fact, so did the 1980s U1, I reckon.
70s u3. well balanced sound
I would choose the 80's U1 and the 70's U3 because the 80's U3 has this twang to it...
Nice comparison, very well done. Love the little child trying to play once the music starts. :-)
I love the U1
Love the baby !
Beautiful playing along with toddler she is beautiful
The early 80's model U3 was so badly out of tune that it sounded really... crap.
Definitely the Early ‘80s U3. Love it.
The Man why it’s out of tune

Thanks a lot for your comparison.
Great comparison video! Why is the pitch on the Early 80's U3 higher than the rest? Not much higher, but a few cents higher?
