I bought one about 7 months ago…I replaced the 6 foot hose that came with it for a 14 foot hose that was originally on my python water changer…and I have it hooked to the sink. I also put together 3 different lengths of the funnel/gravel washer. The longest piece I use first, when water level is high and as water level drops I use the the next longest funnel and finally the shortest funnel.
I am very pleased with this electric vacuum cleaner…from saving time…saving water…and saving frustration…plus a lot easier on the back with no more 5 gallon bucket’s of water to dump…

I’ve got 2 of these, the 800w and the 1000w. I’ve filled the little canister with a coarse sponge plus I added the extension rods. I’ve got a 4” sand bed and it doesn’t disturb it at all.

Nice to see the option to remove water from tank. Even if you just pump it into a 5 gallon pal and then pour water back in, let settle and repeat. I may have to get one too, with 30 plus tanks I never maintain they way I should. Thanks for the review.

I have a Hygger which is very similar to the NICREW. I find it works best by attaching a hose and doing a water change and cleaning at the same time. Agree mine could pump a little slower to finish the cleaning before the desired amount of water is removed. Maybe a valve in the hose could possibly slow the flow.

I think if you add a valve in between the canister should help slow down the water flow to disturb the tank less

I don’t understand why so few people use this
It just make a lot of sense
The idea is to clean the substrate and the water can go back to the aquarium using another pump or a sump for example
That’s interesting because it’s hard clean gravel

The issue is with salt water tanks - if you are vacuming out to some external depository then you'll have to replace the water you removed. Sometimes that's good, but sometimes you don't need to actually replenish water. Is there a way to use the first method - pushing the water through the filter but then instead of immediately returning the flow into the tank, attach a longer tube to release the water into a sump that I have below the tank. Mine is a salt water tank. This way the return of the water does not disturb the main tank. I hope I'm accurately descibing this. I purchase salt water from a store, and that stuff is very heavy do carry up three flights of steps. I do my water changes strategically (less often) but would like to vacuum more frequently.

🙏 can you use the pump intermittently when draining? Will the siphon continue with the pump off?

I think 1st method would be great for some snakeheads or other fish species that don't love water changes but also get a lot of detritus in there aquarium.
    Thanks for video 👍

What if you added a valve to the water going to canister? Slowed the flow enough to not stir up the tank..? Might take a little longer but still more efficient!

I got this over a year ago on Amazon. It worked for 30 seconds till the bag it came with got too dirty and it was trash. Bag has to be cleaned every 30 seconds. I got it so I didn’t have to do as many water changes

If you’re going to pump the water out it seems pointless, you may as well use a syphon. I do like the idea of resuscitating the water back into the tank tho

Mine constantly doesn’t have enough suction or something because it will not suck up water unless I take it apart. Is there a trick to getting it to siphons 100% of the time?

But if yo put the cannister at de end of the hose in a bucket then you can clean up the debris and reuse the water to refill the tank 🤔🤔

There's one out that take batteries now there called MR Cleaner but I really don't know what they are like!. I am interested in them but you just don't know
There is another one that is plug in but the filter bit is actually part of the handle it doesn't face down it just clicks in the side a red bit with mesh on the handle! I wish TH-cam would let you name auction sitemin comments but they don't! Comments get removed but there on there you know what one! If you search electric gravel cleaners you'll see the different one's now avaliable battery and power cable types

Lol, I’m always so triggered when somebody uses the word “literally”. You’re literally going to vacuum? You’re not gonna hypothetically vacuum or figuratively vacuum? :-) Moving on. Really cool to see this in use. I think I might pick one up. Also, if you read the instructions you would see that it does indeed have flow control. It’s the little blue ring under the handle. You could also play something on the outlet to help distribute the water along the surface so it doesn’t blast straight down.

I never liked these because of the flow disturbing everything. I wish I could sump all my tanks. I gravel vac into filter socks before replacing them on tanks with sumps.
