Last night I discovered Roy Rogers. I think I've heard everything you've got on the tubes. Each song was a little better than the last. Thank you so much Mr. Rogers. I thought those days were gone. Best delta blues guitar man available.
This guy is insane. Never in my life have I seen someone to be able to play this consistent in live performances. He sings and plays PERFECTLY. Other artists need a studiorecording to come close to his live-tv-quality... its incredible.
Met Roy one night out side of a silicon valley blues club. Had a nice conversatiin. I asked him if I go home, grab one of his albums ( Slidewinder ) and bring it back would he sign it. I did...he did and all was good, a man of his word, extremely pleasant individual and one of ..... if not the best slide guitar players alive today..
Very few artists can sing and play lead guitar (Jimi Hendrix, John Fogerty, Mark Knopfler, Alvin Lee, etc.) but I can only think of one other player that plays slide and sings (Jeff Healey). I got to see Roy Rogers open up for Stevie Ray Vaughan (another virtuoso) back in May of '89 in Missoula Montana and became an instant fan. Rogers oozes talent and deserves more recognition...
A tune with many names.... sung many different ways by many different bottleneck (or slide guitar) blues artists. Roy proves he's deserving to be in the 'mix' with 'em all. Nicely done.
Last Light show ( Blues at the Bow)was fantastic"" Roy Rogers and the rhythm Kings Highly recommended , One of the best guitarist I have ever seen. Thanks so much for coming our way.
makes me smiley each time. that man is a living legend. he sings and plays like a god i cant believe him - as a musician i can see he is on a level most people and other musicians wont even come close to.
Mr. Roy Rogers embodies the true essence of slide guitar playing. He's so into it, and nevertheless he's detailed and skillful. I discovered him many years ago, he was with Norton Buffalo and they were playing some blues on a Blind Pig records CD. The duo was really, really great. Check them out for yourselves. As for Roy, I personally list him among the 3-4 best slide players alive. He's got a sublime touch and a perfect sense of rhythm.
I wonder when this performance was? I saw Roy Rogers play in McCabe's guitar shop in Santa Monica, about 20 years ago. He was good, but I don't remember him being this good. Inspirational!
Thank you Vlad for posting. Roy is a new name for me- but I'm now a big fan of him- Thanks to you for sharing ! Now Subscribed. Ohhh, to play like that, Roy makes it seem sooo easy- he plays with heart and soul....
First heard him on a John Lee Hooker version of Terraplane Blues. Roy was laying down the guitar in an open D tuning. Fabulous delta styling. Coupled with Hooker's singing, it's spot on!
Thanks for posting Roy is off the hook. The band is tight. That's the first time I saw a classical guitar with a pick-up in it. Alot warmer sound than an archtop
thanks to everyone who chipped in with the key :) can't say i can play it like this, but at least it is making a bit more sense now!! thanks again.. and for a great video, thanks to the poster.. brilliant...
Incredible sound from a funky looking guitar. I saw The Paul Butterfield Band perform this song live with Mike Bloomfield on guitar (circa 1966 at The Cafe A Go Go). I wish I had a video of that! But this is pretty damn good.
@xijack precisely, it is beyond comparison. Different styles, different approaches, no competition intended. Landreth and Rogers combine slide with fingering and Trucks concentrates on stricly slide soloing OR fingering notes. Just different. All mindblowing and a delight to watch.
Just thought I would clarify last posting...Roy is not playing a classical guitar, it is indeed a steel-string... as nylon strings are pretty helpless with a slide...it however...has a 'slotted peg-head' as do classical guitars...
Well done and i dig the beat up acoustic. I'm always dismayed to see how many folks think they should dress up in Roots Music Drag to affirm their cred. But i 'spose its like leiderhosen for polka bands and toreador outfits for mariachi musicians.
When God wants to listen to the blues he listens to Roy Rogers. 🎶
And Derreck Trucks and Johnny Winters
Le sa as la@@georgehorner1578
I would like to apologise to me ears for not having heard of this guy till today. He is heroically good.
I feel the same...
...welcome to our club
Same
Amen to this in 2021.
.
Hopefully you got a few more years in you to enjoy it some more!
Wow! Ten seconds into it and that guitar playing knocked my socks off!
I think Elmore James would be proud. 😏
16 years ago, but timeless slidin' virtuose! Précision but most of all = groove !! Keep on slidin' Mister Rogers !
The good side of TH-cam ✨
If you all out there realise just how hard it is to deliver a song with slide incorporating feeling and talent
Then listen to this man

I think, Roy roger is the best slide guitar player ever!
@Owen Harris no he's the best
he is good but not in the same class as Duane "Skydog" Allman
Roy is great, but Ry Cooder is on another level
So is Derek Trucks
The very essence of kick-ass music !
this guy owns the guitar

That vibrato sounds so outrageously good it makes me chuckle. He so good it seems like he's bragging, Roy Rogers you're a legend man:D
makes me smiley each time. that man is a living legend. he sings and plays like a god i cant believe him - as a musician i can see he is on a level most people and other musicians wont even come close to.

Roy Rogers = Slide king, don't think nobody alive can come closer to Robert Johnson's slide playing! :)
Not that I've seen or heard at least.
Its All rock and roll a hundred times
Gerat slide man !!
Check out those fingers. About as long as ET's. Roy Rogers heh? Well the boy sure can play.
This guy does what he does quite well, but let me give notice to his band. They give him a solid base to show off.
