It's interesting too see study and go down rabbit holes on the topic. Particularly with the rereleases you mentioned, but then also box office numbers when adjusting for inflation.
Can you do a video (if you know the info) on how studios and theaters agree on how many screens to show a film on? Like, why did Holdovers get so few screens? I understand why it would be few once Marvels released, but before that it was still not widely available (only 1 AMC of 3 in my area had it, and only on 1 screen).
The short answer is that it comes down to the distributors wheeling and dealing with the theater chains. They'll take into accounts hype of the movie, star power involved and popularity of other movies playing congruently.
I heard spike Lee once saying from a movies opening weekend receipts they can tell how much a movie will make worldwide including DVD, PP V sales and all. This was many years ago.
Wow! .... This got me thinking, Oppenheimer movie (2023) budget was $100 million dollars but why it need to break-even at $400million ... Was the marketing too high?
Marketing budget was 100 million. So the 100 to make, plus the 100 that goes to distributors is 200 right off the bat. Then Nolan demanded the movie get a marketing budget the same size as the production budget so that’s another 100 so now we’re at 300. And then Nolan is one of those guys that has the pull to negotiate the first dollar gross so that’s probably another 10 mil right there. it’s probably closer to 350 break even point. 400 probably to be profitable
no way to tell since the movie just came out. It opened up better overseas than it did in the US but only a little bit. I think at this point the movie is going to be lucky to break 300 million. If thats the case it's going to lose 250 million plus by the end of it. 270 million budget (estimated) + 270 million to distributors + 135 million in advertising = 675 million to break even.
Hi My name is hayilmikael I am from in Ethiopia.I have a passion for movies. I write a movie. But I am not working due to lack of access. The ideas I write are also mythological. I would appreciate it if you could help me. It is possible to establish production with small equipment in my country. Thank you.
I utilized a voice AI of my own voice for this video. Tell me what you think.

I’ve been to a movie theater called Star Cinema Grill and it’s one of the coolest movie theaters I’ve been to, I wish more people would learn about it
Deja vu. But a topic thst fascinates me. Especially with limited releases, re-releases, indies, flops, etc
